Q: Trying to find a graphic novel that I remember reading in my public library that is no longer there

EthanThe first book in the series(if it was one) focused on a teenager, in the beginning at some point he went to some sort of store or restaurant with some other teenagers and then it gets fuzzy but later at a skatepark or somthing he is confronted by a man with a robotic arm(maybe more robotic body ...

Q: Harry’s power from his mother

F PIf Quirrell burnt when wanted to hurt Harry, why others didn’t? I mean had this power Harry had from his mother mentioned in any other situation? Or Lily's sacrifice just working for Voldermort and Quirrell died because of Voldermort?

Is it frowned upon to delete an answer and then immediately repost it?
01:11
To what end? But...generally yes, very much so.
01:34
@NapoleonWilson Because I accidentally edited the question right after posting an answer.
Oct 3 at 4:57, by Alex
Not that it particularly matters, but in situations where you are editing the question and posting an answer at the same time, you might want to do the question first. This way the homepage will show "answered by Bellatrix" instead of "modified by Bellatrix", and I suspect the former is more likely to attract readers than the latter (especially on old questions that already have answers), and perhaps more importantly, clicking on the link will bring them to your answer rather than to your minor edits to the question. — Alex Aug 22 at 4:04

PaulIn the book Planet of the Damned by Harry Harrison (which I admit I haven't read in over 30 years, but I was talking about it with my son), there's a planetwide Olympics style game called The Twenties that is literally twenty events everyone competes in and the winner gets the best overall score....

Q: Is there a Howard-canon map of Conan's world?

DVK-on-Ahch-ToIn 1936 "The Hyborian Age: Conan's World", Howard laid out a somewhat detailed "canon" history of Conan's world, pre- and post-cataclysm. This included verbal description of the world maps and where each people's and states were. Are there any maps that are Howard canon (either drawn by him, or...

@Alex If you're deleting an answer to immediately repost the exact same thing that isn't a good thing to do, it initially smells of trying to "reset the votes" and something I'd hope mods look out for. And doing it just so it says "answered by" is annoying at best and certainly disruptive.
2
@Alex I agree with ^
It looks weird when someone deletes and reposts an answer. My first suspicion in such a case would be that they were doing something sneaky like trying to reset votes. If they deleted and reposted immediately as you're proposing, then it'd be clearly not about resetting votes. But wanting the front page to say "answered by" doesn't seem like a good enough reason to set people on a wild goose chase for suspicious behaviour.

I hear ya. (By the way, not all the actions I ask about are things that I actually want to do. Most of the time I am just probing the theoretical behavioral limits for the sake of theory.)
FWIW I am too of the opinion it is probably better to have it say answered than modified but deleting and reposting is a bit far. If someone is interested in a question they'll click it no matter what it says
Aug 15 at 15:04, by Napoleon Wilson
You're supposed to write a one-liner, then delete, then edit, and then undelete to have an awesome answer posted 5 seconds after the question was asked and rake in the cred!
:p
Bonus points for editing within the 5 minute grace period... assuming that still stands under deletion
@Jenayah I don't think that would actually help you.
@Alex it was a joke
08:40
@Alex Writing a brief answer and then shadow-editing it into a really good answer does work.
Jason Baker is a master of turning a decent initial answer into a really excellent final answer.
@Randal'Thor Depends.
It's what Aegon does too
Stubb answer then fill with quotes and more information later
The reason why people vote more for earlier answers is not because they are earlier. It's because when it's the earlier answer you see it first. If the answer is deleted you don't see it, so there was no point in having the earlier timestamp.
@TheLethalCarrot I've seen a certain carrot doing it too ;-)
08:42
Unless the case is where two answers say the exact same thing and you want to use the timestamp as proof that you said it first.
But even then, anyone can check the edit history and see the truth.
@Randal'Thor Probably once or twice, I certainly don't make a habit of stubb answers.. unless I'm on my phone :P

The DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU) is a term used for a series of animated films initially based on The New 52 continuity. This universe was first teased in the post-credits scene of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, with its events continued in Justice League: War. These films are part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movie series but don't share the same continuity with films outside of sequels to Justice League: War and Son of Batman. == Released films == === Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013) === Barry Allen wakes up in an alternate timeline, later known as...
The DC Animated Universe (DCAU; also referred to as the Timmverse by fans) is the shared universe centered on a group of animated television series based on DC Comics, produced by Warner Bros. Animation from the early 1990s to mid-2000s; beginning with Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, and ending with Justice League Unlimited in 2006. Some parts of the associated media franchise including direct-to-video feature films and shorts, comic books, video games and other multimedia adaptations are also included in the continuity. == List of DCAU media == While there have been several animated projects...
Both are different continuity
Bleh, why do these Marvel/DC things have to be so complicated.
If it's different I don't see any harm in the DCAMU tag
12:34
Would it need a big retagging event to add it to all relevant questions?
Or is it on the scale that could be done over a day or two?
I guess it should be in 10s or max 20s
In movies we had only 6
Even around 100 is easy enough for 1 or 2 people to drip feed edits over a few weeks
I am sure I can do alone in 2/3 days it should be less, doing 5 for now
@AnkitSharma SFF has 11 times as many DC questions as M&TV does ;-)
@Randal'Thor But due to jumble up tagging I can miss out many of them :p
And DCAMU is less popular so will have less
12:43
@Rand Can you make [dcamu] a synonym of that?
@Randal'Thor I am disappointed scifi might have lesser, as my search is showing
@TheLethalCarrot Done.
@AnkitSharma ?
@Randal'Thor I got only 4 till now
Only 5 DCAMU Q's not Dc
We have and got 2 question on it both on animated film
But this one is about comics :

Q: Who is this giant spider creature?

DaftWho is this giant spider creature? I don't want to call him a villain as he's in a picture with Justice League Dark and could very well be a temporary member or ally.

How to tag it?
12:49
Seems already well enough tagged?
Does to me too
Fine then
Just asked
@AnkitSharma But you already tagged 5 :-P
@Randal'Thor hehehehe I was expecting more then 6, wait few films left
Done
Will go in depth later
@Randal'Thor It's not so complicated ;) Less then how many doctors are there in doctor who :p
@AnkitSharma At least we don't have tags for each individual Doctor ;-)
12:54
hahahahha nice point
But yeah, DW canon is famously complex too.
@Randal'Thor Shhhhh! Don't give people ideas
Either way I hate character tags so will never promote making tag for every doctor
Why mu scifi profile image is not changing, grrrrrr
As the Honest Trailers guy put it, it's the only show to build "thirteen recastings of the main character" into the lore, then hit that limit and pull some more out of a crack.
Was any of the doctor part of LGBT community?
I mean how much diverse they are
I know one is female and all other are male?
Are all white? no brown/black/purple?
13:00
@AnkitSharma Umm, the Doctor's sexuality isn't really explored that much (except for Ten and Eleven, arguably). If you want sex stuff, watch Torchwood instead of DW.
Captain Jack is about as LGBT as it gets, and there are hints of romance between him and the Doctor, but nothing explicit.
@TheLethalCarrot looks all white from this pics to me
@AnkitSharma Yep.
Ah, Captain Jack was great, as was Torchwood :)
13:02
@Randal'Thor That I know Torchwood character is pansexual if I am not wrong
Right middle is orange in that picture ;P
@TheLethalCarrot sun burn?
@TheLethalCarrot That must have been before the physician healed himself.
@Randal'Thor I know about him, I was researching about his filmography after getting impressed by his acting in flawed arrowverse
13:03
Speaking of which, where the hell is John Hurt in that image?
I just grabbed the first off of google
You can't list the Doctors from One to Thirteen and forget about Eight-and-a-Half-or-Something!
If I am not wrong fans hated female doctor news?
@AnkitSharma Fans have been ... divided.
Which is the worst thing about the new casting, IMO: dividing the fandom against itself so horribly.
@Randal'Thor Bar a few exceptions I've only heard good things really but I don't really watch it and haven't seen the new episodes yet
13:05
I wish next doctor is a brown asexual transwoman from India
But maybe this happened when Capaldi was "too old" and Smith was "too young" and so on as well. First new Doctor since I really became a fan.
@Randal'Thor I don't really want sex stuff my complain is diversity.
Don't know a single asexual character from any hit show
@AnkitSharma yeah, they're few and far between :(
Even they made asexual Jughead sexual in Riverdale
@AnkitSharma Lack of diversity in skin colour and (until now) gender is a fair criticism of the Doctors in DW. But it's hard to portray diversity in sexuality without, well, exploring sexuality.
13:11
Is Riverdale scifi? I don't think but chat can be non scifi?
And don't get me started on how badly Sheldon was portrayed in Big Bang Theory
I don't like TBBT, more due to cheesy jokes but bad Indian representation also contribute. But after knowing about Apu from simson I have lack of faith in seeing good representation
In New Who the Doctor is the only member of his species in the universe, which kind of restricts his choice of romantic partners. (Welllll, there's romantic tension with several of his human Companions, but River is kind of Time Lord in a humany sort of way, Meta-Crisis is kind of human in a Time-Lordy sort of way, and other than that it never actually goes very far.)
But somehow I love Young Sheldon
Oh, wait, there's Elizabeth I and Nefertiti and some others too. Damn.
Always more to be dragged out of the depths of the DW canon :-P
13:14
Heard about Fantastic beats controversy about showing gay love?
@AnkitSharma Nope. I care literally zero about Fantastic Beasts. Cashing in on a popular (but overrated) franchise.
@AnkitSharma nope. Can't really remember much of Fantastic Beasts to be honest
Dumbledore is gay but director denied showing anything related to his sexuality in teh film even when his bf Grindelwald being there but after backlash they changed mind and now will show his sexuclaity openly
It's notable only for the fact that it turned a school textbook into a series of five films. Dunno if that's ever happened before. Extreme levels of cashing in.
@AnkitSharma Sherlock Holmes is one possibility, I think?
13:17
And they made nagini Asian woman and people loosing there head
@Randal'Thor the 'school textbook' was enjoyable though
@Mithrandir24601 Holmes is asexual, but I bet not all of his adaptations are.
@Randal'Thor Disney is making so much money to counter it WB need something too. If they can make 100s of SW then why not HP? It's a different fact I like neither of them
@Randal'Thor yep, thought so. That's, what, one character out of who knows how many...
@AnkitSharma Exactly, it's about companies making money. Not about telling a good story.
"WB needs money to compete with Disney" isn't enough motivation for me to be interested in a film.
13:22
@Randal'Thor that's what every studio doing, cough cough venom cough cough Drak universe (The Mumm (2017)) which was failure and canceled now I guess
Why else they will make alien and predator sequels when there story left nothing to cheer for
Third (4th if you count TV show) terminator reboot is on the way
@AnkitSharma And maybe that's why I don't watch many films ;-) Too much money-spinning crap that'll be forgotten in a few years/decades.
@Randal'Thor Then watch Christopher Nolan films
I recently discovered an old sci-fi show called Blake's Seven. Made by the BBC on a crap budget in the 70s, but the characters and storytelling are powerful enough that it still has fans today.
And one of the characters was already familiar to me from a username on SFF :-D
nice
Any show is good until it get hit and then they renew it till it become shit
Exception Breaking Bad
Only show with 5 season with constant good quality
@AnkitSharma GoT was good... Until the most recent season
13:37
The most recent season was good for what it was
Would have been better had they decided not to finish in season 8 so they didn't have to rush everything
@AnkitSharma Firefly never got renewed to become shit.
Unless you count the one-off film Serenity.
[dodges angry browncoats] :-P
@Randal'Thor That is in my pending list. Failed to get legal/torrent way to watch it
@Mithrandir24601 because they can't make good story without the presence of book and Martin is busy writing spinoff rather then finishing books
14:02
@AnkitSharma Babylon 5 was five seasons of goodness. My understanding is that it was planned to be only five seasons.
And I'm pretty sure that the writers of Stranger Things have decided to limit the number of seasons.
@Donald.McLean -Don't be so sure for Stranger Things yet.
After seeing how Netflix MCU stuff is going I am loosing trust
@AnkitSharma That's what they said in the post-season 2 interview show.
Maniac is good as there is no sequel yet
@Donald.McLean did they said how many seasons?
@AnkitSharma I think they said three or four.
14:06
I got the impression that they have a specific plot line in mind and they'll stop when it's done. Which is exactly what happened with Babylon 5.
@Donald.McLean same for Breaking Bad I guess, he always had end plan only little change with season progress
@Donald.McLean With a clear plot arc all the way from the beginning, so it was clearly five seasons rather than "as many seasons as we keep making money out of it".
Although there was the niggle that they thought it was going to be only 4 for a while, so they had to wrap up most of the big plotlines in Season 4 and then introduce new ones in Season 5.

The tone is humorous, and is appropriate for children, but probably aimed at adults. It deals with a sentient dinosaur-like academic traveling to a m...

Q: Fantasy Book where the character had to collect pendants

andyjvI remember reading a fantasy book as a teen, so it would have been a young-adult novel. In it the main character had to collect pendants to ward off an evil. Q: What is the actual color of the TOS Enterprise's front engine?

SpaceHazardIn TOS of Star Trek, the Enterprise's front end of the engine seems to change color. I think people also called them "bussard collectors." Sometimes they are pink, like in the remastered version, but often times they are depicted as orange or red for many different toys and pictures of them. By o...

@Marvin Oh, well that one's easy... even just from what's in the blurb it's clearly The Dark Is Rising.

Q: Young adult book from the Fifties

BrendaMy husband clearly remembers an odd book from the Fifties that was Science Fcition but was treated as fact. It came from a school library so it should have had a well known or at least a good author. It featured aliens who had come from Venus to Earth. The aliens interacted with humans but NOT ch...

@Alex - vaguely reminiscent of the plot(?) of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
- Collecting pedants, that is. Although several of their time-traveling friends weren't, of course.
