@Henders Missing an argument.

Privilege escalation flaw?

It also created a PR

@WELZ I was never notified

Also note that it used your meta chat name...

I tried this a few times in Tavern on the Meta.
I never got any reply there, so I thought I'd try again here.
The PR was created by a request here, since it uses my network-wide name.

1:37 PM
Huh, odd - are watches automatic for privileged users now?

yawns

I don't believe I'm privileged

I'm confused what's broken here?

Unless someone all of a sudden decided to give me privileges

if you aren't codeprived it makes a PR

1:37 PM
@gparyani you are

@gparyani if you have Smokey privs but not code privs your watch list stuff gets put into PRs
if you don't have smokey privs you get a warning
and you do have smokey privs
but not code admin on MS
so your stuff gets put into PRs
for our review

It seems to have created a PR without sending the chat message and it also seems to have placed it in the watchlist.

Merged SmokeDetector #2454.

@WELZ it'd be nice if someone actually gives me a full explanation of the actual problem
since ther'es zero such explanation here?
(and I can't get to Tavern at the moment)
@gparyani ^
(I'm going to consider it a non-issue if there's no details...)
@gparyani Nobody. You don't have code privs. You have Smokey privs
Smokey privileged mode is different than code admin
if you had code privs it'd have just committed directly rather than made a PR
@WELZ I'm not even sure what the core command was that was issuesd.
if I knew what exactly was being DONE that'd be useful. But again, I'm not in Tavern at the moment

@ThomasWard tl;dr SmokeDetector made this commit without making a PR, as a result of my request in the Tavern
And I'm non-code-privileged.

1:44 PM
@gparyani it made that commit to its own branch

The !!/whois command is not listed on the command page

which is part of the PR system
@gparyani if you check the commit you'll see it's in a dedicated auto-* branch
it has to create the branch to provide a PR
since git merges work on branches
that's normal

@ThomasWard Also it didn't ping me with the PR

@gparyani If you were code privileged it'd have committed to master directly
or already done the automerge
@gparyani where did you issue the command?
chat transcript link would be best

@ThomasWard Both here and in Tavern there were no replies to my requests

@gparyani it was in the middle of a reload which could have been why
'cause it had just reloaded the lists and could've been tied up
it not reporting is something you should open a bug about
but you don't have code priv, you have Smokey priv
if you had code priv it would've just done the merge and not done the PR
and code priv is an MS controlled bit
so Smokey making the extra branch, and then creating a PR for it, is normal.
because you are in the Smokey privileged list and have access to the !!/watch, etc. commands
that're listed here as 'privileged commands'
that doesn't mean you're code priv - it means you're Smokey priv
if it didn't create the PR and directly merged then it'd be a privileges risk/problem
so all this indicates is that Smokey is working. [status-bydesign]

@iBug No, it can not, necessarily, be safely ignored. (\b|(?w:\b) adds additional match locations inside sequences of \W(with and without using Unicode) and \w (when using Unicode), which may, or may not, affect some regexes. I agree that it can be ignored in the significant majority of cases (to the extent that I know what WORD does to \b), but not, necessarily, all.

Interesting process, but looks like it's all good now. Somehow the deploy branch got stuck on an autoblacklist PR, which was adding an entry to the watchlist. That entry was duplicated slightly afterwards by this commit. I haven't looked at the exact timing of SD commands, but deploy should not have been moved to the PR's commit, as I understand it.

Hmmm... should have combined those.

yeah, the code golfer inside me is roaring :P

Yeah, there are pluses and minuses to combining them. It's not guaranteed that all of them will reach blacklisting levels at the same time (i.e. they might show up in posts separately). If all the watches weren't already combined into one large regex, then there would be (minor) performance reasons to manually combine them. As it is, it's not clear if there is any actual performance benefit to doing so. There is an aesthetic benefit, but doing so may, or may not, make them harder to maintain.

@Makyen well, in this case, I'd assume that it's pretty safe to combine them, by looking at the URLs: lambangdaihoc\w+\.com (preemptive \w+ included); it's not like "lambangdaihoc" is ever likely to be some legitimate website

tpu- by J F

@EriktheOutgolfer For a watch, using \w would be fine. For a blacklist, I'd rather see an explicit list of sites which we've seen. In this case, the domain is probably specific enough such that \w would be OK, even in a blacklist, but I'd prefer we keep the blacklist as a list of things we've seen, rather than things we think we might see. IMO, we should have a separate list which is blacklisted patterns.

@Makyen talking about the watchlist here; the blacklists have quite high reason weights, contrary to the watchlist, so habits are of course different between those two
