Q: Graph Version of (Weak) Szemeredi Regularity Via Grpahon Version of (Weak) Szemeredi Regularity

caffeinemachine$\newcommand{\mc}{\mathcal}$ $\newcommand{\set}[1]{\{#1\}}$ Notation and Definitions Let $G=(V, E)$ be a graph. For $X, Y\subseteq V$, we write $e_G(X, Y)$ to denote the number of edges in $G$ with one end-point in $X$ and the other end-point in $Y$; the edges with both end-points in $X\cap Y$ ...

In graph theory and statistics, a graphon is a symmetric measurable function W : [ 0 , 1 ] 2 → [ 0 , 1 ] {\displaystyle W:[0,1]^{2}\to [0,1]} , that is important in the study of dense graphs. Graphons arise as the fundamental objects in two areas: as the defining objects of exchangeable random graph models and as a natural notion of limit for sequences of dense graphs. Graphons are tied to dense graphs by...

Q: Renaming the "gersgorin-set" tag

Jean-Claude ArbautI think this tag should be renamed "gershgorin-sets". Correct spelling can be Geršgorin, Gerschgorin, Gerszgorin, Gershgorin, הירשהאָרן, Hirshhorn or Hirschhorn. That does not include Gersgorin, without haček. The most common spelling (and the one used on Wikipedia) seems to me to be Gershgorin ...

Just in case the old tag is removed, here is a link to the tag-excerpt and tag-info revision history.

There is a recently created tag . Wasn't it agreed that we should use more general tag ?

Q: Showing that intersection of arbitrarily many compact sets in Hausdorff space is compact.

CogitoErgoCogitoSumFor a topological space $X$ that is Hausdorff, and $\{B_k\}_{k\in I}$ is an arbitrary collection of compact sets, I need to show that $\bigcap\limits_{k\in I} B_k$ is also compact. Here's the rub. I do not have closed sets to work with. The proof that compact sets in a Hausdorff space are clos...

Q: Tags for separation axioms and countability axioms for topological spaces

Martin SleziakIn topology, several separation axioms (such as Hausdorff, completely regular, normal, ...) and countability axioms (such as first countability or separability) are often used ant there are also some questions about them on this site. Hence it is not entirely surprising that we also have tags sep...

A: Tags for separation axioms and countability axioms for topological spaces

Brian M. ScottI don’t think that there should be a countability-axioms tag in the first place: it’s not a natural category. Second countability, first countability, and separability are just names for the countable cases of the cardinal functions weight, character, and density, respectively. If we do have it, ...

A: Tags for separation axioms and countability axioms for topological spaces

quidOn the last question: no there should be no synonym from hausdorff-spaces to separation-axioms. The issue is that somebody asking about a problem that happens to be placed in the context of a Hausdorff space might well use the former tag, while the question is not at all about separation axiom...

@quid I have made a post where I explained a problem and the two possibilities. And also I said that I am in favor of having single tag for this. (Although my reason was mainly tradition.) Here's the link: Tag management 2018
So far the reaction was two upvotes, no comments. So it's possible that we will not find out which of the two possibilities other users consider preferable. (However, since it is a tag on meta and it was used rarely if at all, it's certainly not a big problem.)
After all, response to tag related questions on meta is often quite minor, so it would be naive to expect too much from making a post on meta.

Although I am pretty sure you've noticed the post on meta. (IIRC moderators get all new posts into the moderator inbox and that includes answers not only questions.)

@MartinSleziak I had seen it, but we only get a notification for questions.

Oh, I know less about moderator inbox than I thought.
And I've asked about this before but did not remember it:

I looked at some other screenshots of mod inbox, but I only saw questions.

Yep, just questions.
@quid Do you think some kind of poll could help? (As in: "Please, upvote this comment if you think that one tag for both favorite questions and favorite tags is sufficient." and "Please, upvote this comment if you think there should be a separate tag for favorite questions and a separate tag for favorite tags.")

3:48 PM
@MartinSleziak I am not sure if many have an opinion on the subject. I propose to just let it sit for a while. I'll come back to it in a week or so. If I forget, could you please, remind me.

Well, the thing with is not urgent at all. (I think that most users do not even notice that tag.)
Whether should serve both purposes is a separate question. Maybe we can revisit this the next time when somebody asks a question related to favorite tags.

A: Tag management 2018

Henning MakholmI've noticed we have both legendre-symbol and quadratic-residues. Would it make sense to make the former an alias of the latter?

There are now synonym suggestions (jacobi-symbol) $\to$ (quadratic-residues) and (legendre-symbol) $\to$ (quadratic-residues). (One of them was suggested by barto, the other one by me.) Users with sufficient score in the tag can vote for/against them here. Maybe it could be useful to include this information into your post - that could attract attention of users who might vote on those synonyms. (And perhaps attract also some users who have something to add to this discussion.) — Martin Sleziak 16 hours ago
