Press enter, get shell. Why bother using #router #exploit (or even password guessing) when there are 5000 routers with their admin shell exposed on #Telnet with no password protection? Its 2018, still such basic issue persists. Details of our findings > https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/5-000-routers-with-no-telnet-password-nothing-to-see-here-move-along/

> On 14 May 2018, Ooredoo Qatar rolled out commercial 5G network for their customers . Thus Ooredoo Qatar became the first operator to make 5G available for their customers

just 5000 is not too many
or are they all public?

Where? Brazil, of course! Why? Yes, it's Brazil's biggest ISP. Yeah, the one I use at home.
@Hakase That's the impression I got. Let me confirm.

oh if it's home routers then it's not too easy to get connection to all of them from the street

3:06 PM
A Brazilian ISP appears to have deployed routers without a Telnet password for nearly 5,000 customers, leaving the devices wide open to abuse.

Q: Missing Colleague

user5451386I have a strange situation that I need some advice on. I work for a small marketing agency as a senior web developer. Last week a junior developer in my team resigned. He was still in his probation period so only had to give 7 days notice, he appeared to be leaving us amicably. This is where th...

this sounds familiar...

we had a situation like that in russia

@Hakase How come? Each router gets a public IP.

hides the sock

@ThatBrazilianGuy uhh you gotta pay for a public ip

3:08 PM
@Hakase Hm. So I'm somehow delusional all those years I've been using this same ISP.

it gets a local network ip sure but it's behind nat normally

Apparently you know more about my ISP than myself.

or maybe your isp doesn't have problems with public ip shortage, who knows
I'm paying for it coz it's a limited resource around here :p
it wasn't a problem here when you couldn't just ping these routers coz none of them have public ips

The huge majority (or maybe the entirety) of domestic clients of this ISP use ADSL connection with dynamic public IPs.
If you want a static IP, you gotta pay (not sure if the home ISP even offers that. Maybe a corporate plan does).
CGNAT here is kinda rare, AFAIK.
So... Yeah, Brazil's biggest ISP deployed 5000 home routers with no telnet password, publicly accessible with public IPs.

@ThatBrazilianGuy telnet password hahaha
telnet.
hahaha

Bob
3:14 PM
@Hakase "5G"
I'll just wait for @TMLCat to come and remind us that that's nowhere near 5G
heck, we can't even practically reach real 4G speeds

But that's nowhere as bad as

Carrier grade nat is D:

Or even
Now that would suck.

wtf is going on with all the removes?

fak knows.

3:20 PM
@Bob We "solved" that by introducing... 4.5G I kid you not.

I joined in because lul.
I remember 3.5G
It's like 3G but faster! (not actually as fast as 3G!)

4.5G! Up to TEN times faster! So much speed!!

Bob
"we've been on the same number for too long, we need a new bigger number!"

3:24 PM
lol

bah the scum over at workplace!
IPS is now my favourite forever

Bob
most companies confirm email preferences for gdpr

@Bob Ten times faster than the artificial limitation we arbitrarily imposed on your 4G! Still much slower than "real" 5G!

Bob
gfycat is different. gfycat is special
they started sending "newsletters" (read: spam)

We can't call it 5G for legal reasons! So marketing came up with a nice, meaningless term! We present you... 4.5G!

3:54 PM
lol
haha typical
someone on the service desk goes the extra mile, I'm like 'wow ok, this is a good sign, bet they been here awhile'
it's one of the apprentices
so they've not beaten them yet ;D

4:06 PM
so what's with the removed messages
@Bob class action suit when?
@Bob no idea if it's actually to the 5G spec or just some marketing name for a local flavor of connectivity
looking that up I got stuck in the void again
it's time to stop

HAMMERTIME!

4:21 PM
hello, I have 25 chrome extensions and tampermonkey with nearly 15 userscripts. I wish to know the ways to back them up so that I can recover them along with their stored data later in case of a data loss. i don't wanna sign into chrome and use sync storage for obvious privacy reasons. are there other ways to do so? or is this is a good main site quality question that I may post? thanks!

PC gamers, any experience with Uplay? I have been avoiding buying games with it for damn-DRM-get-off-my-lawn reasons (etc); but FC4 is on sale and looks like it has fun coop so was considering softening my stance
Just irksome to have to install another not-Steam thing (I do have quibbles with Steam, but's like trying to argue with an 800lb gorilla at this point)

I'm looking for some high enough rep users to review some stack overflow posts for migration to your site

sure have you got some links?

@GaurangTandon You need to word the question very carefully, to avoid it being a software recommendation question. I.e. 'How do I do this' rather than 'What do I use to do this?'
Also, show your research.

Q: Can all of the deleted/closed TEMPLEOS questions be moved to SuperUser?

Evan CarrollI've got a ton of, now censored, questions on TempleOS. Is it possible to liberate them and set them free at SuperUser? I think they'll find a welcoming home there and will be able to continue to benefit programmers seeking that information. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50264004/does-tem...

I need to now go undelete the posts

4:56 PM
Hmm that was supposed to be a reply
Time to attempt to trim beard and shave
If I don't come back, avenge my death

@bertieb huh?

TempleOS (formerly J Operating System, SparrowOS and LoseThos) is a biblical-themed lightweight operating system created in the span of a decade by the American programmer Terry A. Davis. The software is a x86-64 bit, multi-tasking, multi-cored, public domain, open source, ring-0-only, single address space, non-networked, PC operating system for recreational programming. The operating system was designed to be the Third Temple according to Davis and uses an interface similar to a mixture of DOS and Turbo C. Davis describes the operating system as a modern x86-64 Commodore 64 with a variation of...

wow

@YvetteColomb (to your 'knock knock', twas a joke that fell flat for many reasons...)

@bertieb oh sorry LOLOL yeh I get it now. hahaha I was writing an answer to the meta post asking for migration of posts to your site

I'm not high enough rep to see them, but I'm sure someone will take a wee gander and weigh in :)

5:15 PM
@allquixotic Net Neutrality vote will never get past the house. Waste of time.

@RobertHarvey oh hello. I hope you didn't mind me, erm closing that post

It's a better post now.
Yeah, Evan is a handful.

@RobertHarvey that's why I went in firm

@YvetteColomb Most of those posts are self-answered by Evan anyway. Attribution isn't going to be a problem.

5:22 PM
@YvetteColomb Yeah, he's going to be surprised by his rep jump after that undeletion. :)
Is he even on SuperUser?
Nope. Just on Stack Overflow.

Some of those posts were closed and reopened several times anyway. Maybe just leave them undeleted?

yeh I did it as a one off, to answer it and demonstrate a willingness to help, if the OP is willing to help. In this case edit the post and change attitude
Yeh I'm thinking that, many will roonmba

Probably.
But he can still post somewhere else if they delete again.

I have a script that shows if and how many days

5:26 PM
We've done all we can. I think. He can make his case with SuperUser.

Q: Migrate question from SO?

Evan CarrollI think this question should be migrated from SO. They've closed it and it has a TON of exp that could benefit this community. What's happening?
I'm not sure we'd like migration of these sorts of questions. That's up to the mods here, but I'm personally against migration.
Especially a large batch of questions which were all downvoted on the source site.

Good morning except @rahuldottech.

5:56 PM
Hi!

I want to produce something that looks like that.

...and it's time to update my OnePlus 3T to the latest LineageOS build. This will be complicated this time due to the need to take a NANDroid and go from one major release to the next.
Just updated the recovery to TWRP 3.2.1.
What I like about this is that Google now just offers the Android platform tools as a standalone download. No need to download the whole Android SDK.

8:24 PM
@Burgi what's the link?

idk someone in the office had it on

What do you hear?! Yanny or Laurel https://t.co/jvHhCbMc8I
tl;dr depends whether you hear high freqs or not
Wat is happening with review items??
Oh, I see

aaand back

8:44 PM
Update flashed. Restarting...

how are you fingers doing @bertieb?

@bertieb @Burgi @djsmiley2k Ah. I hear Yanny to start and then Laurel after a few minutes. Weird.

for me it sounds like "blah blah blah"

@Burgi Sore atm actually, but thanks for asking :)

@Burgi Then your hearing is really screwed ;) Must be the noisy neighbour parties ...

8:48 PM
Was at fracture clinic today an had soem stitches out
Wires are still in

@DavidPostill heh

I wasn't allowed to take photos of the xrays this time so can't show y'all :(

why not?

I have plenty of gory photos tho

its your information

8:49 PM
@Burgi "You'd have to go through medico-legal to get them"
True that
But I can't just photograph them

unless do the IP rights go to the hospital/radiographer

I am tempted to make an official request, just to tmake the point

@bertieb thats bullshit

Nah in UK you have absolute right to all your medical records, AIUI
lol yea

@bertieb Were those broken finger bones in the x-rays?

8:51 PM
Completely new home screen app. I'll have to redo all my widgets :(

But I didn't feel like making a scene so will get them someotherhow
@DavidPostill The previous ones? Aye

if i ever break anything/do something stupid with a motorbike i'm going to insist they give me copies of the xrays

The updated xrays have broken bones but a nice wire holding them all together
@Burgi Heh :P
Yeah I was very tempted to say that A&E just let me photograph them
Buuuut didn't want to get someone else in trouble

@bertieb Ah. Were the breaks in the finger tips? I found it hard to figure out what was actually damaged ...

@DavidPostill Aye, the tips were quite broken

8:53 PM
i run quickly and calmly walk through airport security so i can see an xray of my bag

there should be a nice continuous line, but in those [x-rays] there's a proper air gap
air/tissue/mangle
But the consultant seemed happy enough about the bones
Nails will be a different story, not sure how well/if they will regrow
Because of damage to bed
But will find out over the coming months

OMG! in the new chrome you can natively cast audio/movie files to the chromecast!!!!

Also, if you think you've seen all the beard styles; think again

what... the... actual.... fuck...

Credit where credit is due
I've never seen the beard cage door in person. OP - wear your friendly mutton chops and go drink some tea! — Raystafarian 23 hours ago

9:01 PM
i only have a beard because it turns my GF into a mushy puddle of <insert metaphor>. otherwise its just a pain in the neck <insert "your shaving wrong" joke here>.

@bertieb I have a big toe nail that was damaged. It keeps growing a new nail underneath the existing one. So I have a series of stacked toenails. Occasionally the top of the stack pops off [pun intended] :)
@Burgi I find it's the moustache which makes the most difference (think about it) ;)

@DavidPostill Huh, that's interesting- is it uncomfortable? Sore?

@bertieb No. Neither. It just looks weird - there are kind of 2 1/2 nails at the moment.

That's... kinda cool actually

Looks like the folks at LineageOS completely overhauled the launcher. Order of the day is to get things back to a somewhat familiar state, but I suppose it'll grow on me :)

9:07 PM
(tomorrow on IPS: Is it wrong to say that you find someone's toe 'kinda cool'?)

@DavidPostill >:D

Anyhoo, update to LineageOS 15.1 was mostly painless.

It looks like a very thick nail. At first I thought the whole nail would come away - it was all black from dry blood under the nail but then the top half came off. Since then I've had multiple layers of nail.

@DavidPostill What did you do to it? (if you don't mind my asking)

@bertieb Slipped going down a wet fire escape and banged the toe very hard on one of the vertical balustrades. I guess the nail got rammed back into the nail bed/root. It was incredibly painful for a few days. Think stubbed toe only 50 times as painful.

9:11 PM
@DavidPostill Ouch D:
Not fun!

And no there wasn't a fire. I was taking the rubbish down to the bins from my back door (first floor flat) and I had both hands full. I was lucky it was the bottom step otherwise I might have face planted down a couple of meters of steel staircase.

@JourneymanGeek Nope I don't get that sorta shit

@DavidPostill That would have been unfortunate- friend of the family did something like that (tripped down a couple steps) and had his hands in his pockets... messed his nose and his front teeth something unpleasant

@Bob Lmao, adding more spectrum to 3.9G to make it nearly 4G compliant does not 5G make.

@bertieb Yep. I'm happy to have the strange toenail given that alternative.

9:16 PM
But hey the inflationary marketing of the G's has been over the top ever since the already greedy and conceited US operators insisted the world accept their 3.5G networks as 4G so as to not be left out of the 4G race.
So with that 3.5G became 4G, 3.9G became 4.5G and true 4G became 5G.
Except there's no real 5G standard, it's just a bunch of concepts to make 3.9G 4G compliant.

@RobertHarvey A "handful" of AWESOME...

9:44 PM
Forgot my locker key this morning... Now I have to use the test Windows 10 machine for all my work today.

Q: Questions about Temple OS?

Evan CarrollI don't exactly understand the topic here, computer software Is a bit vague. The "Help Center" goes on to say programming and software development is off topic. Let's say though there was an operating system that was made to educate users on software development, that required basic know...

@EvanCarroll We do get chat notifications about meta posts.

What's a good generic terms for the amount of bits downloaded off the net to a computer? Data seems common, but is it a good general term?

@FaheemMitha \o Data is a good term

@bertieb For some reason I'm not particularly fond of it.
But thanks for the feedback.

10:09 PM
Information?

files/folders?

@bertieb That's a bit too abstract.
@JourneymanGeek No, that's not the same thing.

@FaheemMitha It's a term used by folks from lay to technical

I'd go with data then

For example, internet plans will probably talk about data usage rather than simply data for the purposes of tallying up
Do you have more context? why does 'data' feel off?

10:14 PM
@JourneymanGeek Fair enough.
@bertieb Dunno, really. Maybe it's just that it gets a lot of use in a mobile phone context.

@FaheemMitha but its the same thing

I guess I can live with it if there is no alternative.
@JourneymanGeek Yes, I suppose so.

only the physical layer and transport layer is different

I suppose I'd like a more computery sounding term.
Sherlock Holmes used the term data.

I think the alternatives are more abstract ("information"), pretty-much-accurate-but-unusual ("bits and bytes"), or completely lay ("stuff")

10:18 PM
I.e. "It is a capital mistake to theorize without data."

A qualifier? Digital data?
Binary data?

@bertieb I thought of bits, but everyone would think I was weird.

Depends on context really

That's probably the most accurate term, though. Bits. Because that's what they really are, aren't they?
@bertieb What depends on context?

What's the context? Format? Intended audience?

10:19 PM
@bertieb Computer people.

@FaheemMitha I intended to ask more long the lines of audience than context initially

Ave
@ThatBrazilianGuy ah yes, this is something I'd expect from oi

If you were addressing a room full of computer people, I think they'd find the qualifier digital superfluous :D

@bertieb Yes, I expect they would.

I mean, going back (as you may be aware), a computer was a person who computed

10:24 PM
@Burgi Hasn't it been like that for ages?

And not even as far back as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, even

@Ave You have privileged insider information.

@bertieb Actually, it still is.
Unless you're of the view that the computer is doing the computing.

Ave
@ThatBrazilianGuy kkkkkkkk

I take that view, yes :D

10:26 PM
@Ave By the way I want a new Brazil-related avatar. Any sugestions?
@Ave OH MY GOD NOW SHE'S LAUGHING AS A BRAZILIAN! :-O
SOMEONE HELP @AVE SHE'S BEING ASSIMILATED! SAVE HER BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
"Kkkkkkk" is still curable. Once it reaches "skapopsopasdpafkfds" stage it's irreversible. :'(

@bertieb That's like saying the grad students are writing the papers, whereas everyone knows the professor is remotely operating the grad students to write the papers.
Just kidding.

Ave
it's too late for me.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Yes, I'm actually familiar with "The Wall". :-)
But thank you for the link.

@FaheemMitha Ah but the grad students are doing the experiments that are generating the... data :P

10:30 PM
@bertieb That's a bit tangential to my bit of satire, but ok.
I was referring to the well known and widespread practice of the professor getting his names on his student's papers just for being there.
Kind of like the Queen of England gets her face on the pound notes. Again, just for being there.

@Ave That's a cute avatar! :)

@FaheemMitha It was as good a call-back (not that sort of callback) that I could come up with on short notice

@bertieb Good effort.

Thanks!

Ave
@ThatBrazilianGuy thanks

10:33 PM
@Ave You drew it? Or comissioned it?

Ave
commissioned it

@FaheemMitha I don't quite see the relation to the computer-as-a-person vs computer-as-a-machine; though I'm beginning to (something something something menial number crunching versus the person giving meaningful interpretation/instructions to that?)
Possibly

@bertieb You're an Arch user? But not on U&L, apparently.

Ave
btw I use arch
on both my laptop and server. because I'm crazy.

@FaheemMitha (Liz is also the Queen of more than just England, said the resident of one of the non-England UK parts)

10:35 PM
@Ave Why crazy?

@FaheemMitha Guilty as charged

What command you use to find if someone's using Arch? None, they'll tell you.

Ave
@FaheemMitha there's a some bugs on arch that are acceptable on daily use but for server grade stuff it's bad.

@FaheemMitha Not on U&L as terdon would answer questions faster than I could manage :P

Ave
like for example when you update kernel ability to hotswap drives goes away, same with ability to connect to openvpn

10:37 PM
(I kid, but really- I'm just an admittedly-enthusiastic user; no expert)

Ave
on my laptop I can easily just restart. On server, it's not that easy.

The lead developer of Borg Backup complained about my use of data. He said "network traffic", which is actually a better term, really.
@bertieb Unlikely. He can't be in 5 places as once. And there are plenty of non-ditribution specific questions.
You could even ask some yourself.

@FaheemMitha Network traffic possibly/arguably better for the bits-in-transit
But once it's written, it's data
Which dev?

@bertieb Thomas Waldmann.
He's a busy guy, so usually has no time to chat.
But I got his attention for a couple of minutes.

Oh, so I see

10:42 PM
@bertieb Yes, well, when you are talking about your ISP restricting your data, the network traffic is the relevant term, I think.
On IRC, that is.

(I'm also idle in #borgbackup)

@bertieb That's quite a coincidence. Then you can see what I'm writing.
Looks like I've lost his attention again.
Most of the time he just ignores user questions. (Don't tell him I said that.)

:P
Ahm no clype

Ave
npm is beautiful

Damn... I bought a new pair of shoes on Tuesday, now they're 25% off. :|
@Ave what terminal(?) do you use? That blue and green highlighting looks nice.

Ave
10:45 PM
It's a lot of stuff.
There's uh

@FaheemMitha Yea, I see the Q now as well. There is a distinction to be made on terms I guess- data covers both disk usage and bits transferred; but network traffic only refers to the latter

@bertieb yes, I see you there

Ave
for terminal emulator I have alacritty, for shell I have zsh with powerlevel9k theme, smyck color scheme and for fonts I have Pragmata Pro.

I guess in relation to a question on a backup program like borg (which can operate remotely) using data can create ambiguity

@Ave Thanks :)

10:49 PM
@bertieb I'm having difficulty communicating with TW.

@FaheemMitha Aye, I was pondering the smallness of the world a couple days ago (tending to bump into same people in different contexts) but yea- I also posted on EL&U yesterday about a word that came up here, so I'm also in chat there (for pinging in case of post issues as I'm not familiar with the stack and questions there)

@bertieb Sometimes it can be.
He was disapproving about me not using encryption.
@bertieb You use Borg?
I'm currently in ELU chat. Not always.

@FaheemMitha I think I'm missing something about your question (should this be taken over to U&L chat?)- why not run the command remotely and catch the status there?
@FaheemMitha Yes, albeit only for a month or two

@bertieb Yes, that's what I want to do.
But TW says that ssh automatically returns the status of remote commands. If so, that simplifies things considerably.
@bertieb Ok. How is it so far?
TH is super smart, so he's very helpful to talk to if you can get his attention.
Also very knowledgeable.

@FaheemMitha That's something I either came across recently when trying to achieve... something or other, or a false memory I just instigated on the spot from learning it now
@FaheemMitha Fab! (for something I haven't really had to rely on)
                             Original size Compressed size Deduplicated size
 All archives: 64.20 TB 48.93 TB 94.09 GB

10:57 PM
Possibly, all I need to do is
ssh faheem@server command

(Just for this machine I'm working on at the moment which has a fairly small and non-rapidly changing data set)

Where in this case command would be the borg check or borg extract thing.
@bertieb That's a lot of data.
@bertieb Did you say small?

@FaheemMitha Yea, maybe 50-75GB
94GB is actually more than I was expecting from the dedup

@Ave Use the --force, @Ave

But original is 64.20 TB.

11:00 PM
Unless I've messed up my excludes and accidentally backed up some game footage

Lots of copies, then?

@FaheemMitha Aye, haven't run a borg prune against it yet

Hmm. You should set up some automated verification.
That's what my discussion was about.
Anyway time for sleep.

Aye, past my betime too

@bertieb You should visit U&L chat sometime.
It's a bit of a morgue, but the more the merrier.
I've been idling there for years.

11:03 PM
Checking backups is the next step, but I want to think it through and not duplicate the work borg has already done :)

@bertieb Take care then. See you around, hopefully.
@bertieb Borg doesn't check anything by default.

@FaheemMitha Ahh, what's one more tab eh? :P

@bertieb Right. I have hundreds.

I'm trying to be good and limit myself to one window... but the tab list is yoyoing a bit
nn all o/

@bertieb One window? That's not possible.

11:05 PM
Cheers clippy

Well, good night @bertieb.

@FaheemMitha One in chromium... $more in FF
@FaheemMitha Cheerio! o/

@bertieb Funny, I used to use rdiff-backup once too. But it's no longer maintained, is it? And deduplicating backups are the real deal these days.
