@totallyhuman No I didn't :p

i fixed that (hackily but works for any case so whatever :P)
now i'm trying to force it to parse 3e5 as ScientificNotation<'3e5'> and not PositiveInteger<'3'>, ScientificNotation<'e'>, PositiveInteger<'5'> >_>

wait can see parser?

one sec
i forgot all references are evaluated in classes and worked backwards
too lazy to reverse it :P

uh why would you not just reverse the order of class defs and take out all the REFs ಠ_ಠ you're slowing it down lol but w/e

gimme a way to not manually reverse it and i will do it :P

5:15 PM
nah i'm good :p

Q: Sum of combinations with repetition

anta40A friend of mine gave me this problem: Input: An integer X which is <= 100 Output: Total combinations of 2, 3, and 5 (repetition is allowed) which sum is equal to X. Examples: Input: 8 Output: 6, because the valid combinations are: 3+5, 5+3, 2+2+2+2, 2+3+3, 3+2+3, 3+3+2 Input: 11 Output:...

@totallyhuman instead of separating complex from float you should stick a OPTIONAL("j") to the end of it so it doesn't have to backtrack if it's not there, and handle that in the interpreter. backtracking is exponential
anyway gtg o/

bye
i fixed it by not being an idiot

Stallman was right

and inadvertently broke something else
such is life *sigh*

6:01 PM
i.stack.imgur.com/AvFcb.png im making a minesweeper game for terminal, which one looks better iyo

in the first one you can separate the squares

@betseg I like both versions, actually.

@EriktheOutgolfer yeah but i didnt want to do it before making sure it looks better

it's not a matter of "looking better", but a matter of "being easier to use"

true

6:04 PM
@betseg The former

having to measure distances and divide to count squares is a big no-no-no

Interesting Chat bug

refresh perhaps?

I did and it's gone
I just thought it was interesting that it happened in the first place

I just did and it isn't
oh you mean the bug is gone, not the message

6:07 PM
sidebar does lag
the message was posted 36m ago but the sidebar says 34

eh I liked the spaces better

--spaces --separators --nothing

I really appreciate it when people on SO quickly respond to your answer, or accept it if it helps them.
It's nice to no you helped someone, and it's frustrating when I post the correct answer and no one ever acknowledges it in any way

6:18 PM
CMC: Inspired by a random 05AB1E bug, output the word 'domain'.

that's not a bug, that's a feature :D

zsh, 9, <<<domain

05ab1e 3 bytes
ez
/s

@MagicOctopusUrn Does case matter?

@EriktheOutgolfer ' shouldn't use dictionary.
@DJMcMayhem nah

6:20 PM
(I'm gonna answer it in a language where it's actually challenging)

inb4 vim

emacs, 6 keystrokes, 'domain'.

Wrong

it prints n

@betseg Vim isn't challenging...
That would be idomain

6:21 PM
@MagicOctopusUrn how so?

@EriktheOutgolfer dictionary should need 2 chars, ' should have treated the first Š as a literal character, leaving the second to be Š the c,a,b swap.
@EriktheOutgolfer I call it a bug because Try it online! <--- this doesn't work & imo it should.

note: 05AB1E docs aren't 100% :P

brainfuck, 64 bytes: ++++++++++[>++++++++++>+<[>+>+<<-]<-]>>>.<+.--.>---.<----.+++++.

@betseg i.stack.imgur.com/pb7mM.png btw im coding this in vim :D

@betseg Did you reply to yourself there?

6:23 PM
yes

Oooo it is minesweeper! (understands monologue now)

I have it in 82 bytes in brain-flak
Anyone wanna try to beat that before I post my solution?

i want to try :p
(you mean the domain thing?)

Yes

alright

6:27 PM
I got this by accident while trying to golf it down lol: Try it online!

@DJMcMayhem he's into you! run to the nearest church! :P

If the next bad golf results in 6̫̠ͪ̂͑̐͆͂̚̚͟͠͞6̇ͮ̒̉̇͗ͥ̃͏̮̮̝̟͇̠̜͝6̯͓͕͉ͪ͌̅͒͛͐́̀̕͢ , you should run.

Down to 80

@DJMcMayhem sounds like we need to unleash more evil then? How did you end up with 666 though I mean...
it sounds like you did that intentionally... o.O

ok I can't try it right now and I probably won't get around to it so you can post if you want :p

6:38 PM
What was the command line flag for outputting chars in Brain-flak? -a?

Oh lol yeah >_< Thanks

@Mr.Xcoder That's for inputting ASCII. -a == ASCII input, -A == ASCII output, -c == ASCII both

I see.

6:39 PM
oh makes sense

@ThomasWard Well, the original formula was push 3, quadruple, triangulate (78). I changed it to push 9, quadruple, triangulate, and 666 just happens to be the 36th triangular number I guess
@Mr.Xcoder Should I post my 80 byte, or are you trying to come up with a solution?

heh

Go ahead and post yours, I'll try it independently anyway

@DJMcMayhem Sorcery!

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Magic Octopus UrnEsolang Imposter! Choose an esolang in which to compete, call this language Language A. Next, attempt to emulate another esolang, call this language Language B, using Language A. To "emulate" another programming language you must, at minimum, implement at least 10 bytes from their codepage....

@J.Sallé That's brain-flak for you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@DJMcMayhem What does this do?

Lol
@Mr.Xcoder Absolutely nothing

Ok...

Originally the goal was to write something like this: fatiherikli.github.io/brainfuck-visualizer
But then I gave up on it and forgot about it

6:52 PM
@LuisMendo Did the 3x3 test case not suffice for that? Are you looking for like a 3x7 or something?

ಠ_ಠ How can I duplicate the ToS in bf?

@Mr.Xcoder (({}))

lol, I read that as "Terms of Service" and was like, why would you do that?

Oh that works... Hm, I lived a lie :P thx

@AdmBorkBork that's exactly what it means, why wouldn't you want to do that?
np :P

6:54 PM
CMC Output the Stack Exchange Terms of Service verbatim. :p

English, 2 bytes: no

lol

My idea was to generate 68 and then work my way up and down depending on the code points, while duplicating again and again...

CMC: Write a program in any language that transpiles Brain-Flak code into any language. The two languages can but are not required to be the same.

Python 2, 0 bytes:

6:57 PM
@Mr.Xcoder That's a good idea, but it can be simpler.

you say the languages can be the same, right?

I'll try it this way anyway :P
Brain-Flak -> Brain-Flak lol

Remember that push(68) itself has a value of 68, so rather than doing push(68); duplicate(); push(pop() + something) you could just do push(push(68) + something)

@DJMcMayhem That's what I meant
Instead of (...)(({})) I am doing ((...))

ಠ_ಠ to all of you :p
CMC: Write a program in any language other than Brain-Flak that transpiles Brain-Flak code into that same language.

7:00 PM
@HyperNeutrino (ಠ益ಠ) back at you

@ThomasWard ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ back at you

In Brain-flak, it would be 1 (or 2?) bytes

i'd give you my response but... I can't (it violates some rules)

:o lol

@ThomasWard Indeed

7:02 PM
@DJMcMayhem Wait... It would output in reverse this way :c

Yup

I have to work my way backwards :|

Either go from the other direction or add -r

Hmm right

@HyperNeutrino so, instead, I leave you with this‌.

7:05 PM
lol

I'll move to the third stack now
Lol Dj your are not pingable there ;-;

Really? That's weird
How long does it take to expire?

5 days IIRC

see, I can ping anyone anywhere so I can't say that i can replicate not pinging him :)

Any 05AB1E warriors wanna beat my 3? codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/155873/59376
I will +200 any answers to that question in 05AB1E that do one of the following:
- Score of higher than 3.
- Answer without the use of ' (apostrophe).
B/c I really... Really want to know if it's possible lol.

7:14 PM
@HyperNeutrino Here's a start:
s,i=[[],[]],0
def w():global s,i;i^=1;return 0
c=c.replace("()","1+").replace("[]","s[i].len()+").replace("{}","s[i].pop()").replace("<>","w()+")
But that misses all the monads

I think "()" -> "+1" works better, but I don't know for sure.

Oh my gosh you're totally right

same with []
:P
also you might also want the + before s[i].pop()

Also you can use r=str.replace for -a lot of bytes

Yeah, I want it before all of them
@Mr.Xcoder Not really.
Well, sorta
I'd need to pass c a bunch of times
And nest it all

7:16 PM
It would still be shorter.

s=([],[])
def w():s[:]=s[::-1]
then replace s[i] with s[0]

-10 bytes, to be precise.

@HyperNeutrino I'm pretty sure you still need global s

Not if you do s[:] = because that requires s to already be defined so it will look for s in all scopes first.

I have 72 bytes for "DOMA" + 1 for -A and +1 for -r

7:19 PM
@HyperNeutrino Holy shit
You guys are amazing BTW

@HyperNeutrino Would you accept Brain-Flak Classic? Pip, ~101 bytes (the linked answer transpiles and then executes, so I imagine some bytes could be shaved).

lol thx :p I agree, PPCG people are fantastic

@HyperNeutrino You do still need return 0 though

7:19 PM
Because you can't add None to an int

@DLosc classic?
wdym
Yeah true.

> Since this challenge was posted, the language has evolved and updated, but this first revision of the language is known as "brain-flak classic".

Oh okay. Yeah I was thinking BF classic.

@HyperNeutrino BTW, the Brain-flak you are used to is not classic

hm okay

7:21 PM
Are there any other radiation challenges like that quine one?

wait [] as a nilad is no longer -1 lol I see

@AdmBorkBork Husk, 12996 bytes (some of the characters had to changed

@MagicOctopusUrn Brain-Flak, 100 bytes: ((((((((((()()()()){}){}()){}){})((()()())()){}{})[()()])[((()()()){}){}])(()(‌)()()){})()()()()()) (98 bytes +1 for -r and +1 for -a)

Hm I see [...] and [] are different

@HyperNeutrino [] as a monad is also different
ninja'd

7:23 PM
@H.PWiz lol, wasn't seriously expecting an answer. Haha, that's awesome.

@Mr.Xcoder wow, you "do main" man of BF. (Sorry DJ, I keed)

CMC: Given a Brain-Flak program, transliterate it to a single Python lambda expression that takes the input as a list of integers as the argument to the lambda and outputs to STDOUT.

@AdmBorkBork It's about a third of the original size

@Mr.Xcoder Nice! Now read this tip:
1
A: Tips for Golfing in Brain-Flak

DJMcMayhemTake advantage of the 'Stack-Height' nilad Especially in kolmogorov-complexity challenges, or challenges where you always know the size of the input, you can take advantage of the 'Stack-Height' nilad [] to create integers. Let's work through this with a hypothetical challenge: output CAT. The ...

@MagicOctopusUrn Well I tried it independently of DJ's and I am pretty satisfied with it. Will golf soon.

7:24 PM
anyway gtg o/

@DJMcMayhem Will do after I switch from -r to backwards stuff. Thanks!

@Mr.Xcoder bahh, I wasn't trying to sound unimpressed, I just realized I called you the king when the creator was present lol.

You did not sound unimpressed lol. My wording was weird fwiw

@HyperNeutrino Thanks, but: conlang.stackexchange.com/users/248/dlosc. Dunno how it let me join if it's still private beta.

Can I do a replace any in python? (e.g., replace 'a' or 'b' or 'c' with 'z'?)

7:29 PM
Isn't replace in python regex based?
Does replace "[abc]","z" work?

PowerShell, "string"-replace"[abc]","z"

@DJMcMayhem import re;s="abcd";re.sub("[abc]","z");

@MagicOctopusUrn No, but you can import re and use that instead (ninja'd)

@DLosc I was reading the answer I google'd :(. I don't know python lol.

Or you can use Pip, which has regex built in. :D

7:35 PM
What's pip?
Is it like the boy? Of which is worn on one's wrist?

c="(()()()()())({({})({}[()])}{})"
s=[[],[]]
def w():s=s[::-1];return 0
def p(c):global s;i=eval(c);s[0].append(i);return i
def n(c):return eval(c)*-1
def z(c):exec(c);return 0
def l(c):
 i=0
 while s[:][0][-1]:i+=eval(c)
 return i
r=str.replace;c=r(r(r(r(r(r(r(r(c,"()","+1"),"[]","+s[i].len()"),"{}","+s[i].pop()"),"<>","+w()"),"(","+p("),"[","+n("),"{","+l("),"<","+z(")
for i in "}]>":c=r(c,i,")")
print(c)
Ugh, that's so close but not quite there

@MagicOctopusUrn Try it online!
It's sort of named after the Dickens character, but originally it was a recursive acronym for "Pip Isn't Python." :P

Anyone who voted on this, review your vote please: codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/155938/… @AdmBorkBork @EriktheOutgolfer @Arnauld
Not... not sure I can triple tag.

Well, I got the ping at least. Let's see here.

@MagicOctopusUrn no, Ton Hospel made a wrong edit tbf

7:42 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer How so? I like the question tbh O_O

Lol I always thought it was Tom :s
@MagicOctopusUrn Yeah but the poster asked a general programming question, which is off-topic. Ton changed it so that it's a challenge, but I think we should not edit programming questions to make them on-topic.

the OP hasn't decided on a winning criterion yet, and Ton edited one in himself, so he changed the meaning of the post, something which is not allowed
unfortunately I see people make such edits way too often

It somewhat conflicts with the author's intent

I un-downvoted, but I'm not going to retract my close vote

Same

7:45 PM
@AdmBorkBork For input length I, my incorrect approach was computing output size n,p as n=floor(sqrt(I)), p=I/n. That accidentally works when the true size satisfies p=n+1 or p=n. The new test case detects that

I didn't downvote at all to start with

@Mr.Xcoder Oh is that a meta-post discussion?

(well I didn't downvote)
Ninja'd

@Mr.Xcoder I'll keep that in my list of rules from now on.

throws flags around

7:45 PM
no, I think this is just SE-wide policy for edits

@EriktheOutgolfer Fair enough, same difference.

@MagicOctopusUrn It's not a rule, it's my opinion.

@LuisMendo Ah, I see. Yeah, good catch. Thanks!

@Mr.Xcoder Fair enough. I felt like we'd be killing 3 birds with one stone. Helping OP with his problem. Helping OP understand the site. Getting a new fun challenge. But I see the counterpoints too tbh.

Well I like so I'll answer in Jelly / Pyth :P

7:47 PM
Woaahhh... if you hover over the bottom black bar of a tag in chat your cursor freaks out.

yep
the SE rule I'm referring to is described as one of the reasons to reject a suggested edit during a review
> This edit deviates from the original intent of the post. Even edits that must make drastic changes should strive to preserve the goals of the post's owner.

@EriktheOutgolfer Agreed, fair enough.

@MagicOctopusUrn lol, that's an awesome CSS bug

hm, I won't roll the edit back though

@Doorknob I summon thee for the above ^
looks like there may be someone breaking the rules about a post?
thought I'd poke one of you mods :p

7:51 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer I mean, is an edit which makes a post valid worse than an invalid post? Is stealing a challenge from a new user who mistook this for stackoverflow not damaging? How should we handle good challenges posted wrong?

@ThomasWard I do have the power to roll back too, but the reason is that there's already an answer in there and the usual thing we do when that happens is to leave it as-is, no need to make more mess and answer deletions and other stuff ;)

@EriktheOutgolfer see that I can't see your posts didn't show up - see the chaotic evil of laggy chat

slow internet huh?

@EriktheOutgolfer more like crappy corporate web gateway
that doesn't always relay traffic backwards ;)

I mean I've even seen newer users type 4 paragraphs for a challenge, and even though the challenge was pretty awesome, it was closed because: "no tags", "unreadable".

7:53 PM
and the ping remains...

:P
i'mma just go hide in the corner of the over-heated server room over here...

also, I usually don't roll such edits back, although yes looks like we do need a clear consensus

@ThomasWard it looks like the only substantive change is making it , and as far as I know there's no definitive rule about whether that's allowed

@Doorknob was responding to this part:
10 mins ago, by Erik the Outgolfer
the OP hasn't decided on a winning criterion yet, and Ton edited one in himself, so he changed the meaning of the post, something which is not allowed
which Erik so kindly pointed out.
:)
but also
3 mins ago, by Erik the Outgolfer
@ThomasWard I do have the power to roll back too, but the reason is that there's already an answer in there and the usual thing we do when that happens is to leave it as-is, no need to make more mess and answer deletions and other stuff ;)
so, ping can be disregarded for the most part.
as i said, i'mma go curl up in the corner and be silent for a while.

@Mr.Xcoder i am concerned that editing clear programming questions to on-topic golf challenges still gets the OP a somewhat useful answer that incentivizes posting off-topic help questions

7:56 PM
@Doorknob so unless you are stating that Erik needs to change how he operates, I'll accept the above of what he stated as the rules :) (Adding a winning condition, though, to what would otherwise be an offtopic question and making something offtopic as not code-golf on topic , sounds like a major breach in the rules somehow... but I'm also exhausted tired so I may be under/over analyzing)

@xnor Yeah that's what I am saying too. I concur.

@xnor one more reason I don't like that, although, contrary to what Thomas said, I don't usually "operate" upon it (yet)

@xnor In short: Stop being useful here, people!

@xnor I agree, but there is some humor in giving the OP an obfuscated answer in a language they'll most likely never be able to even install properly.

darn python for being so readable even when golfed!

7:58 PM
yeah we need a meta post confirmed
@ThomasWard there's no proper bed at job huh? that's a pretty awful situation

separately, i don't think the question is that interesting, and even if it's not an exact dupe, expressing numbers as sums from a fixed set is pretty well-trodden
