@NogShine hmm , yes we all generally know this but just wanted to know abt. his view. Anyway actually we can say that , success is dependent on lots of factors like cast ,catchy title , handsome advertising , demo /preview , article published in movie magazine's ,time etc etc.

Even in Viswanatha astakam, Adi Shankara wrote it as वाराणसि

@TheDestroyer But while talking people also say वरानसि , just for ease , but ण is prominent word , not न . its like regional style of pronunciation. In UP the hindi lan. style is quite different than mumbai style.

@SwiftPushkar Yes. I think many just don't properly pronounce our Varnamala Letters, especially ण .. in Vishnu also it is ण but i hardly see anyone speaking ण ..even in NarayaNa'

i.e. western indian hindi style is more refined than of north , UP , Bihar etc.

I think Vernacular languages such as Telugu, Kannada, Marathi retained original Sanskrit sounds.
