@Sid I downvoted originally for providing no explanation. I left it because it doesn't seem to address, e.g., the deceiving part. It also seems to not appreciate the depth of the issue - this doesn't really seem like the kind of thing that will be solved with one sentence, especially as the OP mentioned that they tried to talk to the friend.

@Mithrandir hmm... I guess you have a point.

But then, it will probably lean into the "too long to be answered in a single post" thing

Lots of IPS posts are broad. It's tricky figuring out when it's too broad. I don't think this one is - it just needs an answer that will address all parts of the question.
