Well it's still cool
I see iterators
A few thoughts:
1. being able to iterate over only our last messages would be great
2. a way of storing data associated with a message in the cache would be great
3. I was thinking about how to listen on the chat sockets with a select()
I found a solution in c but it could be easily done in Python:

Anonymous
3:52 AM
(1) The API in my head includes `chat.server('se').me().old_messages()` to find your recent messages, but that's a ways down the list.
(2) You should be able to extend the internal database model (based on SQLAlchemy) to do that in some way... it might be messy, but I'll keep it in mind going forward.

Sorry was a little distracted by Jones's victory speech
OK so basically if you join a new room and make a new socket, you send a message down that local socket or whatever and that wakes up the thread doing the select
I'll make a snippet
wakeup = os.pipe()

 while True:
     ready, _, _ = select.select(room_sockets + [wakeup], [], [])
     ...
Then when you modify the room_sockets list
do wakeup.write(".")
something like that

Anonymous
My solution to threading, particularly in Python, is "I don't understand so I'm not going to use it".

Although os.pipe returns two separate objects it looks like

Anonymous
4:19 AM
;)

@JeremyBanks this is worse than threading: low level IO
It should work on both Windows and Unix though
Basically the point is to have only one thread rather than one per room

Anonymous
I think that's asyncio's job, and it already does works cross-platform, including as a library on Python 2.

Anonymous
I don't know any of that low-level stuff fwiw.

Does asyncio have websocket support? I couldn't find anything
select takes a list of sockets and returns when one gets a message
