it's not
it's a string, not a number

then what do

so that's still base 10 in essence

no, it's a string

2:51 PM
It's a string representation of a base 10 number, yes, but the filter itself is not a number and cannot be directly interpreted as one
it needs transformation before you can use it as a number

@ArtOfCode In light of Timer not being repeating, can you tell me if this bit of code is supposed to repeat?

I'm guessing yes?
Ah, looks like it does already:
    if should_repeat:
        threading.Timer(600, Metasmoke.send_statistics).start()
I'll swap that out for one of my shiny new Tasks.periodic

@quartata it's literally all FPs so far. I don't think that filter is worth it, need to remove it at some point

well I think it might catch something eventually if we can get rid of the obvious FPs

I don't think the TP rate will be high enough to be worth it, but feel free to try

@DJMcMayhem Feb 12

4:21 PM
Cool, thanks

@quartata While you might solve this by not permitting .py to be a TLD, the more general case is to not trigger on displayed text that matches the filename being linked. Eliminating such would prevent a significant percentage of the the FPs we've seen from the filter (at least those seen on SO). People shortening the link text down to just the base filename is common. Such links should not be caught by the filter when the filename happens to be something that also has the format of a domain.

Is that the public release or something beta?

@SmokeDetector It seems like that reason gets a lot of fp. Mostly because of people linking a file. Would it be a good idea to disable that for common file extensions?

@SmokeDetector why

@Riker Post - Domain storage.googleapis.com indicated by possible misleading text lesson01_speech.zip.

.zip is indeed a TLD
is the trouble

TLD?

top level domain
websites can end in .zip

4:24 PM
@quartata Just don't trigger when the link text matches the filename of the link.

the reason is pretty bad for accuracy though

@Riker Yes, it is, currently. However, a large percentage of the FPs are from a relatively low number of causes: A) link text that matches the filename being linked; B) Links to known domains (e.g. stack.imgur.com, with a valid image; etc.). Yes, if the FP rate can't be lowered, then the filter should be removed. However, when something like this is added, I'd expect a period of adjusting the filter. OTOH, those two don't cover all of the FPs, so adding them won't reduce FP to 0.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Manually reported answer: how does electricity travel? by Zachary Ross on physics.SE

@SmokeDetector rude

@quartata Hmmm... It looks like a more generalized rejection than just matching the file name would be desirable. Perhaps a more general rejection would be: does the link text match the filename or #fragment. In addition, another rejection should be links to URLs which are not valid (e.g. http://here and http://link).
