@Gallifreyan All of its TV Tropes entries are written in a somewhat over-enthusiastic tone that makes me wonder if the author wrote them up.

@Marvin did it change recently?
I haven't noticed the J-ish F before

Q: Why was my question closed as duplicate?

Sachin StarkAre human-looking Jedi/Sith like Palpatine and Skywalkers humans? This question was recently marked as duplicate. Let's see what's bothering me: My question has an accepted answer. 2 years later a duplicate question was asked which community failed to close as duplicate. And, now, my question ...

Q: Does the "Game of Thrones" browned butter pie crust technique make any sense?

1006aIn yesterday's Game of Thrones episode ("Stormborn"), Arya Stark compliments the young character Hot Pie's most recent pie. He replies The secret is browning the butter before making the dough. Most people don't do that 'cause it takes up too much time. For context, this is a double-crust m...

oh, sure, they have a guy go jousting without a gorget, but they get the pie crust recipe right

Greetings, Earthlings.
@AnkitSharma I saw a video from a zoo. They had one of their employees dress up in a panda costume to play with the panda cubs. Nice work, if you can get it.

I volunteered at a zoo for a while. The best time I had was the day they were going to unveil their new kangaroo exhibit. My job was to play with the kangaroos so they'd be tired and docile during the unveiling.
kangaroos aren't actually all that fun to play with, they're kind of like cats, but it was still pretty cool.

3:35 PM
@Donald.McLean sound fun
Panda are the cutest walkig animal

4:15 PM
this question seems to be having some language confusion, but it almost asks a good question

@DaaaahWhoosh This guy does drive-by HNQ attempts. Its kinda annoying. Don't devote too much time to it.

yeah, after more thought I realized that asking "does the Chancellor have more power than the entire Senate" is actually a big subplot of that movie, so it's also kind of useless

4:40 PM
@AnkitSharma There doesn't seem to be a non-Facebook link. Here it is on Facebook: facebook.com/TELEGRAPH.CO.UK/videos/10156036970524749

Was it really necessary to tag everything with ? I feel like is overly specific.

there's 19 questions with the tag, that seems like enough to justify it to me
the real question is, why are there so many questions about a map?!

Yes there's support!
Ok I'll get to writing my meta!
@DaaaahWhoosh There are 19 questions, because a user just went and tagged 19 of them in 2 minutes by searching the specific search term "Marauders map"
Meaning it's no easier to search them, it's exactly the same.
Hence pointless tag

6:18 PM
ah. true. I was going to check that, but then I didn't

So meta, cool!

> "Sub tags should be used to reflect specific topics that are likely to have a reasonable level of interest. "

@amflare yeah, but, 19 questions. That's reasonable.

I don't think qualifies.

I seem to have lied

6:22 PM
19 all time? Nooooo

it's used as much as
and more than

That doesn't mean is good, it means that and are also questionably necessary.

Yes, I think this is something we need to cover on meta. I am of the opinion we need to standardise out tags
If we look at our sister site Movies & TV, they're tags are standard (right @ankit?)
Someone on slackchat mentioned we might have to have different standards based on franchises due to the sheer size of some (my proposal was 1k+, so ST, SW, DW, HP, Tolkien, DC, Marvel, GoT/asoiaf)

6:27 PM
@Edlothiad yeah, M&TV only has 125 Harry Potter questions. That's much more manageable

I feel like I've seen a similar discussion on SSF, but I don't immediately see it.
Dammit. Now we have <2k users proposing edits with

@DaaaahWhoosh They have a standardise tagging system throughout their tags
@amflare I've rejected them all.
@amflare We had a tag clean up about 6 months ago

@Edlothiad Oh okay. I wasn't active then. Did we hash out any sort of convention?

No :D
Wait let me find it

Q: The Big Edit Event (is finished)

ValorumNow that we have a broad consensus on having an edit event to deal with the broken links caused by the HTTPS update, we now need to coordinate the event itself. UPDATE #2 The Big Event is now (largely) finished). If you want to do any more editing, please refer to the earlier guidelines on mass-...

looks like it was more about adding tags than removing them?

@DaaaahWhoosh And only for a couple tags at that.

Q: Do we really need the Marauders map tag?

EdlothiadA user has just gone and made 17 tag edits in 2 minutes adding marauders-map to all the questions that come up when you search the term Marauders Map. Does this tag benefit us in any way? We already have a meta answer that would possibly answer this question, suggesting that tags (such as butte...

Get upvoting
@DaaaahWhoosh It was an attempt at standardization.

@Edlothiad yeah, I mean, I like the philosophy. It just seems like that tag cleanup event had a different purpose than the one being proposed now
unrelated, but I don't like how many downvotes there seem to be on meta.

Why, downvotes are good on meta

@DaaaahWhoosh Meta votes are for expressing desire to discuss a topic and agreement on the responses to the discussion.

it just seems like you could post an answer instead
I guess I'm just not accustomed to downvoting in general, so it's hard for me to properly contextualize it on meta

@Randal'Thor Meta New Blog Post no longer featured?

@Marvin Dammit, Valorum disagrees with me :/

That doesn't mean anything.

> It means that people who get wowed by high rep will give my opinion less credence.

also, people who get wowed by gifs

8:05 PM
@amflare Wait what?

280k+ rep is more impressive than 5k+ and implies a better understanding of the site.

No Valorum has 0 understanding of the site
2
isn't that right @Valorum?
Oh wait ye...
Sorry buddy :/

High rep only implies subject matter expertise (in the tags they participate in)... never understanding of SE. Lots of high-rep users haven't a clue how SE works. That being said, perception and reality are rarely the same thing.

... I'm also not making any claims that Valorum doesn't know about how the site works.

Q: When and why did Tony Stark dig a hole in his chest?

I wrestled a bear once.In the beginning of the first movie he is shown in the cave with some wires hanging off his chest attached to a battery of sorts to keep the shrapnel out of his heart. Later after he invents the smaller circular battery thing he asks Pepper to replace it and suddenly he has a substantial hole in...

How do you add a tag to the text of a question?

[tag: insert tag here]
or [meta-tag: insert meta-tag here]
That works for chat as well

Awesome. Thanks. :)

and comments, although the comment ones end up looking like this--> edlothiad
Which is a bit phooey so I normally suggest using [edlothiad] to represent tags in comments

9:45 PM
@Catija It doesn't even necessarily imply subject matter expertise, but that's a different topic.

9:55 PM
Does adding the tag put it in the list of Hot Meta Posts?

@DCOPTimDowd Not really.

I'm going to assume they use something like the hotness points for the HNQ to determine the hot meta posts.

Meta's sidebar is usually cached for longer than HNQ. Considerably longer.

I don't know that refutes what I just said? Only running it every hour or two hours doesn't mean they don't use the same methodology.

It doesn't, just an observation on my side. Caused some confusion for me when I first started visiting SE.

Q: What social group are the Sculpted supposed to represent?

Gallifreyan"The Sculpted" is the word used to refer to any non-human inhabitants of the world of The Spire. All of them are different from humans in physical appearance, often quite drastically. "Skew" is a derogatory term used for Sculpted Issue #1 Sculpted were made by humans, but they most likely ...
