today on "covfefify a string" stats:
it has beaten the "hello, world!" challenge
it is now currently the 9th highest scored question on ppcg

TMI

@JanDvorak What does TMI stand for?

I'd rather not know

Too much information

@Phoenix Oh, well, that was actually exactly the information I was looking for. :-)

10:09 PM
@flawr do classes have to be in their own file?
in matlab
it errors for me, it's at the top (under some axis settings and var definitions)
@Downgoat lol
@totallyhuman sigh

@totallyhuman that's... kinda stupid actually

Don't shoot the messenger

shooting the messenger would be me downvoting one of your challenges because of the popularity of that inane question. I'm merely expressing my opinion

No it wasn't directed toward you :P

I will note it was the messenger who thought it a good idea not to keep the information to themself

10:12 PM
OK, I've added a few more points. Anyone care to have a look again?

Should I make another covfefe challenge?

please for the love of anything golfy do not make a sequel to that challenge

@Adám Clarification: you're proposing that new sandboxed posts be made on meta? Or on the main site?

@Mendeleev I think lemon killed the horse

@ConorO'Brien OK, thanks for the positive response! Starting to write it now

10:15 PM
-.-

I think this meme was taken too far

@BradC On the main site. I should have sandboxed my proposal to work out the ambiguities :-)

to talk about a previous trend, the first alphabet challenge was fine. 20 alphabet challenges were not
(I made the number up, its probably more like 8)

@Adám I think it will be very difficult to prevent premature answers to sandboxed posts.
The tag will carry a lot more meaning than tags normally do on SE sites.
But overall I like the idea.

10:17 PM
@ConorO'Brien I went through and found as many as I could for this meta question (last item in group 1), so I think there were 9

Q: Day Calculator - Add some days to a date

zeveeIn this problem, you are given a date and a number of days and you must add them together. You are not allowed to use any date built-ins like Javascript's Date() Input A date in any format, but the reccomended format is MM-DD-YYYY Output The addition of those days to that day. Examples are...

@BradC Well, some of our tags are already critically important, e.g. and .

@NewMainPosts Has anyone encouraged them to use the Sandbox yet?

@ETHproductions I think there is another one about combining alphabet challenges, but idr

10:21 PM
@Adám Err, I thought everything was code-golf. Guess not, I see the other challenge types now

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Neil A.Gif - Jif, Jif - Gif code-golf Stolen from @Downgoat with permission The point of this challenge is to (not) settle the debate on the pronunciation of "gif". " The pronunciation of gif is debated and while it's supposed to be (and should be) pronounced jif, it's still commonly disputed. I...

@Riker I honestly don't know, as I've never used classes, and I just know one single person who did.
But probably yes, as even functions must have their own files.

I'm out of upvotes because I upvote every answer to my posts ;-;

Maybe you should only upvote the really good ones then :P

@mbomb007 my post isn't a duplicate due to the whole "Require you to create a new language" thing.

10:30 PM
@Mendeleev no. I will write a userscript to change your avatar into sheep if you go through with this

Nah, just use the existing userscript to change the username to "Mendelsheep" or something like that

The recordMyDesktop program is cool. It stops recording and starts rendering when it receives a SIGINT signal.

AMD ReLive is really neat.

what does it do when it receives SIGINT? interrupts itself?

@flawr :/
matlab's classes are a clusterf***

10:43 PM
@betseg Shuts down presumably.

@Phoenix RIP

Q: Fully-justify & hyphenate a block of text

DaveGiven a width and a block of text containing possible hyphen- ation points, format it fully- justified (in monospace). Fully justified means it is aligned on the left and the right, and is achieved by increasing the spacing between words until each line fits. Related: Justify a text by...

.___. apple sells $1800 computer and only give 5400rpm hard disk

definition of apple :P

@Downgoat I think it's the customer's fault for knowing about this and making the decision to waste their money anyway.

@Phoenix or you can pay $800 more to get 7200rpm :P

Is there an SSD option?

yeah but that comes at 4x the price
Also, they slashed their iPad prices to $329 and if they are still making a significant profit margin it puts into perspective how overpriced they were before O_o

11:55 PM
No one on earth would find that remotly surprising.
They're still probably way over priced, tablets don't cost that much to manufacture.

@Phoenix s/one/human/ :|
._. apparently 2-year old processor is new feature :|

Q: Can a language containing very few characters be mapped to only several bits to reduce byte counts?

GryphonFor example, could I invent a language that contained only two characters (for example 1, and 0) and use it to answer a question (assuming it fulfilled all the necessary site criteria), and then score it as 1 byte per 8 characters? Or would this still require 1 byte per character?
