Can't tell if my answer to Golf you an anagram for great good! is valid or not, help me out

um, can you get all anagrams?
seems invalid
because you can't get any starting with a for example

user165474
wtf I just got an upvote for a question that I posted like ages ago

yup
I can balance it out if you like

user165474
:I hm

@DestructibleLemon ? there are 1.8891961e+38 possible outputs, and nowhere in the question does it say that the program must be able to output every possible anagram

3:16 AM
um

user165474
In this challenge, your task is to write some code which outputs one of its anagrams chosen randomly with uniform distribution but it should never output itself.

^ it's literally in the first sentence

One of its anagrams chosen randomly
It chooses a random anagram
It literally shuffles half the source code

user165474
...

user165474
one of its anagrams with uniform distribution

user165474
3:17 AM
that implies that all of the anagrams should have an equal probability of being output

@MDXF if that were true, why bother mixing up the source at all
and just output one possibility

Your program should never output its own source as it is, i.e. it should never be a quine.

user165474
So?

Hm
You have a point
I'll ask the OP

@MDXF It's already clear though

3:21 AM
Well I wouldn't say clear, it's left open for interpretation and implication

Challanges that specify Uniform distributions instead of just non-0 chance sadden me.

@ATaco agreed

@MDXF ... What does "Uniform distribution" mean to you
@ATaco ... Why

It's not always easy to produce a Uniform distribution depending on the challenge.

because it shuts off interesting implementation as well

3:22 AM
@ATaco This is PPCG not Programming Basics and Free Reps
@DestructibleLemon Some interesting implementations

I don't believe that enforcing a Uniform distribution adds to the challenge.

@ASCII-only implied

It makes it impossible in quite a few languages

also I accidentally that word

Plus if you really want you can post a variation not requiring a uniform distribution

3:23 AM
That will almost immediately be dupe hammered.

@ASCII-only And immediately get flagged as dupe

not entirely sure why your answer can't just have all of the code in one part and strfry it

user165474
^ your comment is a dupe of ATaco's. VTC as dupe.

@DestructibleLemon Because it has format specifiers
If I strfry'd the format specifiers, instead of looking like %c%s%c it would look like <random bytes>%<random bytes>s, etc

hmm. well your answer is bad

3:25 AM
Thanks for the downvote, anyway

@MDXF No? It's sufficiently different that submissions for the other challenge that many answers will be not very competitive, therefore it isn't considered a dupe

Oh well. If it was invalid, it was invalid... all I can do is fix it

user165474
lol tfw you think someone has higher rep than you but they don't

@HyperNeutrino who're you referring to

user165474
ASCII-only

user165474
3:30 AM
I thought ASCII-only had like 12k-something rep

Wow
Same

I do that a lot. There are some people that I always feel have a lot of rep and only have a couple thousand

I'll probably have as much rep as him in a week
Already gained 1k rep in like two weeks

user165474
:o

user165474
3:31 AM
owtf that rep spike

Q: When is my car gonna lock up?

KuanHulioIntroduction I have a nice little 2006 Chevy Aveo. It's a good car to work on. You could call it a hobby, I guess. I fix it up a bit, but one part of the car is hard to fix: the gearshifter. It'll lock up on me at the worst of times! It is a nightmare. Challenge Your challenge is to find out w...

@MDXF It looks like most of your rep is coming from one answer

Took me six seconds to write

user165474
:I and you already have a gold badge

3:32 AM
Yeah
I spent a year on Stack Overflow and two weeks here, already got half my SO rep here

user165474
nice answer, but I don't think it was that good... like it's really nice how that works out but 116 upvotes... I'm jealous :I

I did not expect it

@MDXF Btw doesn't that answer also print a new line?

user165474
my most upvoted answer took me longer to type than to create

main(){puts('s');} = 18 bytes
Segmentation fault = 18 byte
*bytes

user165474
3:33 AM
oh I used to have more on SO and then I decided to be active here and overtook it in a few days

but add newlines to the end of both
19 bytes

On my machine it prints a newline with the segfault

@HyperNeutrino Same
@WheatWizard Exactly
main(){puts('s');}\n is 19 bytes, Segmentation fault\n is 19 bytes

@MDXF bad news buddy: people don't tend to get a bunch of 100 upvotes on their answers often

Ok cool

3:34 AM
also. you lucky

@DestructibleLemon Yeah, I know
@DestructibleLemon Again... yeah I know

well actually tbh I don't think its really that good in general

@DestructibleLemon The answer?

user165474
I passed my first thousand on January 17 this year

no I mean a simple answer gettin 100 upvotes

3:35 AM
@DestructibleLemon I completely agree, I always think it's stupid when an answer gets more votes than the question

user165474
And then I passed my second thousand on April 5

user165474
And then my third thousand on April 19

user165474
which means I got a thousand in 2 weeks :D

Not bad

I would have more rep if I answered more often

user165474
3:36 AM
And then I passed my fourth on May 11

user165474
which was significantly longer

I'd have more rep if I produced higher quality content

@DestructibleLemon I answer everything I can, I recently discovered code golf

one of my highest voted answers isn't even an answer

Anonymous
@DestructibleLemon Same. I spend way more time working on challenge ideas than I do on writing answers

3:37 AM
Which one

@Mego I do neither

>_< why are people so resistive to dupe challenges

user165474
@DestructibleLemon eh wut

it's not like it's a bad thing
do we have like some meta thing I can link discussing that it doesn't have to be exact same challenge to be a dupe?

@Mego Every challenge I've posted has been awfully received
I just don't try anymore

A: Are there any languages especially good at ASCII art?

Destructible LemonI recently made a new programming language, called Turtlèd, which operates on a grid of characters with a turtle, which moves around the grid, writes to the grid, and has control flow with the grid. The grid is implicitly printed at the end. By this fact that it does not have to write spaces, and...

at a time it actually was my highest voted

user165474
wait 7 is highest?

That's your most hig... oh

user165474
oh at that time ok

user165474
why do so many people have gold badges ;_;

I was thinking "wow 4k rep with the highest answer 7? damn you answer a lot"

3:38 AM
its higher than my average anyway
4k rep?

actually your highest answer is 8 now

whatchu talking about

user165474
4k?

user165474
what?

Or not
whoops

user165474
3:39 AM
lol I thought Lemon had more rep than me until I checked

user165474
(though I checked a while ago)

I tried to play a koth once
it didn't work

that's how I messed up
I saw the 3393

user165474
oh network score lol

user165474
and 3393 != 4k

3:40 AM
^

pls can we not ignore site-related question :/

Yeah

@Downgoat Just out of curiosity, off-topic-ish. Aren't you like the biggest meme on PPCG?

@MDXF probably 2nd after avocados

3:41 AM
one of my best answers is still at score 0 ;_;

user165474
rip

wtf wai ;_;

user165474
my first few were all 0

it was even an outgolf!

I have some answers I really like that are still at 0 or 1 vote

3:41 AM
@DestructibleLemon Same, my best answer has 0

I THOUGHT OUTGOLFS GOT YOU REP ;_;

Or not
All three of my Polyquine answers took ~2 hours each to write
and no votes ;_;

Anonymous
@Downgoat About the dupe thing? I dunno, the challenge I think you're referring to is a pretty clear dupe. If it gets reopened, I'll hammer it again.

user165474
514 -> 177

3:43 AM
I'm really bad about upvoting things...

@HyperNeutrino thats nothing

@Mego huh, am I not allowed to hammer twice?

@HyperNeutrino Sounds like my 202 -> 73 and it was one of my first golfs

Anonymous
@Downgoat Nope, users only ever get a single CV on a given question

user165474
each person may only vote to close and to reopen once each on a question

3:44 AM
will I get 11'd if I post my outgolf?

user165474
@WheatWizard You golfed it down to about 42%, I did about 34%

@HyperNeutrino still not as bad as the brainflak quine

@HyperNeutrino Ah I was commenting on the number of slashes

user165474
oh ok

user165474
3:45 AM
that makes more sense

the comment has more votes than the question

@MDXF Some men just want to see the world burn

@Mego Guess so. I'd probably use wine and cmd.exe on Linux before using Comic Sans MS for anything

user165474
@WheatWizard ... just wow

please pity my 0 vote answer

user165474
close :P

or 19% if you count the second one
Wait that seems wrong

3:47 AM
kind of sad that the bounty didn't attract many votes to my quine ;_;

Yep, that's wrong. 34%, hit 4 on my calculator :P
@DestructibleLemon I know the feeling

Its hard to get votes on quines

user165474
good job

at least the bounty will be a consolation

user165474
lol

3:49 AM
In my ridiculously upvoted answer I posted a link to another answer doing the same thing in the same # of bytes and it has 0.009% as many votes

I was able to make the quine good because I had experience from my own language

Martin has one fine one line Klein Quine with only two votes.

@WheatWizard not anymore... :P

user165474
are you a poet

@WheatWizard Nice one, Sam I Am

user165474
3:50 AM
wait you got 116 upvotes in a week

user165474
WTF

@HyperNeutrino me?

trick to getting many upvotes:

user165474
yes

make simple answer

3:51 AM
@HyperNeutrino Yeah it was pretty unexpected

hope that the gods bless you
???
profit

user165474
the longer answers get less upvotes because people look at the challenge and are like LELELEL NOPE TOO CONFUSING

user165474
@DestructibleLemon sure :P

I can understand why this has 0 upvotes because it took 5 minutes to write. But stuff like this that takes three hours? why cruel world

Write good questions instead

Anonymous
3:53 AM
Upvotes are inversely proportional to effort

@HelkaHomba I'm trash at that

@MDXF Well, It's not a well known language (IMO) and it has no explanation or verification link

user165474
My highest upvoted question gives me more rep than my highest upvoted answer

@Mego For questions I think the ratio is a little better

user165474
3:53 AM
50 (250) vs 20 (200)

@MistahFiggins ...true
I only know 80x86 assembly 'cause I used DOS until I was 13 :|

Anonymous
@MDXF Wow, did CPS get involved?

I always try to put explanations into my answers

@Mego No, CPS got involved when I didn't leave the basement for 300 hours

@MistahFiggins thank you
I upvote those first

Could I get some feedback on this sandboxed question?

@MistahFiggins I try to write explanations when the solutions are insanely complicated and only God and I know what they do

Well, that way you avoid the issue where eventually only god knows

@WheatWizard I like "triplets" more than "triples" but subjective

I have a bunch of answers that I can't explain because I forgot them as I wrote them

@WheatWizard Relatable

user165474
3:56 AM
lol same here, I do that too often

4619 bytes? I'd rather drink bleach than explain that

tfw you put a lot of effort into an answer and then it gets one vote but you have too much respect to post it in chat after posting one already

@HelkaHomba I'm going to go with triples, because when I google triplets it suggests triples.

yeah

user165474
true

@WheatWizard maybe link to the wiki articles on triples and triangle numbers

user165474

tfw you finally win a challenge with your own lang but the person doing the answer isn't an answer accepting person
