ah okay
Oh wow, kritixi's solution is really good
yea
@DJMcMayhem with a literal escape character, I'm down to 36 bytes

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Beta DecayGenerate a Voronoi Diagram code-golf graphical-output Challenge Given a list of coordinates and colours of points, output a 300px by 300px Voronoi Diagram. Winning Shortest code in bytes wins. To be expanded

@Geobits ok good
@flawr I will start turning PPCG into by downvoting everything you post!
that's not funny and not really what he was aiming for
@Riker Seesh take everything serious much?
@EriktheOutgolfer Not yet. I need to get more rep first
you can get rep just as easily when it's graduated
Yeah but I will loose my precious
No you don't get automatic rep. Plus, we've already graduated.
well yeah i meant design
but there's no loss to getting 25k after the design
you'll temporarily lose your privs, but they don't make it any easier to get more rep
15:11
There is a temporary loss of privileges. ninja'd
@EriktheOutgolfer I just got reviews
okay? those don't give rep
seriously, a design would be really nice
I know. But I want to hit 750 rep first
Anonymous
@DownChristopher I agree with him. It's not funny.
@Mego some humor is not meant to be laughed at
15:13
Huh? How is it humor then?
^
even dark humor is supposed to be funny
But should you laugh?
... that's the point of dark humor yes?
> > the quality of being amusing or comic
Dark humor is evil humor, but it's still intended to be laughed at.
Anonymous
Oh man, this conversation is going to be so productive...
7
15:15
I never said it was not intended. But should you laugh?
Actually I have like a bunch of challenges to answer
so I will go do that
@Riker Some dark humor isn't :P
@DJMcMayhem >:U I golfed it a lot, but then I realized I literally made @KritixiLithos's answer

Who abuses stars again?
Anonymous
I don't see any star abuse?
Anonymous
15:18
Ok nevermind
It's me hey, I can star my own messages
The plot thickens
Anonymous
@LearnHowToBeTransparent No, you can't.
@Mego what?
where was it?
Anonymous
15:20
I didn't see any star abuse. Then it started up right after I sent that message.
Anonymous
Lots of random messages getting starred
...... sigh
@star abusers: you have 20 stars per day. If you waste them all and they get cleared, they don't get refunded
so you're gonna be out of stars buddy
@Mego Let's wait until Winterbash
Anonymous
I'm guessing mods can't see who starred stuff
Anonymous
Which is really unfortunate
15:21
That's correct
that is correct
Messages like this one aren't intended to be starred I think.
4 mins ago, by Riker
@DJMcMayhem >:U I golfed it a lot, but then I realized I literally made @KritixiLithos's answer
so?
that's not a problem
@Riker by room or everywhere?
everywhere
@EriktheOutgolfer star abuse isn't starring things that weren't meant to be stars
in fact, starbaiting is kinda star abuse itself
Anonymous
15:22
@betseg Everywhere
star abuse is starring random things to clutter the starboard
Everything is meant to be stars in the end. That is where everything came from (according to science)
Who abused the flags?
Output numbers in BF?
dunno
but let's stop talking about that stuff now
15:23
Anyone? I need to output result of a BF program but idk how
@DownChristopher No MCVE, can't help
Anonymous
You're going to have to ask your question clearly if you want an answer
this should output 2016
* I want it to
(ignore the args)
It puts out à
Anonymous
Well yes
Anonymous
Do you know how brainfuck works?
15:25
Kinda
@DownChristopher You need to learn ASCII
How could one dot output four chars without a loop?
it has a 256 limit on a memory space
Anonymous
brainfuck output works by outputting the characters whose ordinal matches the value on the tape
15:25
oh rip
Anonymous
If you exceed 255, it wraps back to 0
What if a cell is 32 bit?
That is, on 8-bit brainfuck.
15:26
@betseg Clever
@betseg -1 ungolfed
you need to output 1 char at a time
Anonymous
So to output 2016, you'd need to output the following values (in hex): 32 30 31 36
Ohhhhh. That makes so much sense now
@Mego Why do you speak Hex, not Decimal?
15:27
@LearnHowToBeTransparent because hex is fun
and decimal is not :p
I will HEX you
Anonymous
@LearnHowToBeTransparent Hex is easier. Plus I have a character table with hex values open.
Anonymous
Decimal digits are 30 + n
Anonymous
The War of the Worlds?
15:29
@DownChristopher btw, this is the correct BF code link
fun fact I have a hex -> Ascii converter. And also ^ that (ninja'd)
Clicked on wrong url...
It just had + with 2016 as output
ah
?
Old run with code removed
15:31
ah
Using esolang constants the shortest BF code for 2016 would be -[>+<-----]>-.--.+.+++++.
That is clever
See but now I can't use the code without feeling bad as you guys basically wrote it :(
@Riker what's the challenge?
Oh wait I found it now
@EriktheOutgolfer How did you do that?
15:36
nvm I will no longer feel bad using the esolangs coad
code
Just give credit.
@DownChristopher that answer is invalid for the challenge
Just saw
give me a minute
Of course it's invalid, the numbers must be used in calculations, not just be NOPs.
15:40
Crap
I see why it wasn't used yet
hmmmm
it's literally impossible with standard BF
Yeah, so brainfuck is out. (Riker is a good ninja)
maybe a BF deriative, but it's unlikely
Anonymous
Perhaps you should've read the challenge before trying to FGITW a BF solution you didn't even write
15:41
@Qwerp-Derp Just saying, it would be easier to commit from your machine instead of via GitHub (especially if we are going to manage directories and if we are going to move stuff around them). Because IntelliJ can sometimes bork things up, you can always use command-line git to commit changes and stuff
@Mego FGITW? The challenge is over a year old
The method of output from BF is also invalid for the challenge.
Anonymous
Yeah but there isn't a BF solution, and as soon as you thought you had one you posted it, without putting even the slightest effort into verifying its accuracy.
I get it I messed up. As soon as I realized I removed it
16:01
imgur.com/a/V0f5p the banana tree in the hospital that I talked about (@Riker)
really?
does it grow actually edible bananas?
Dunno, no flowers or bananas visible
@betseg 10/10

@Pavel probably, but it'd be a manual install and you'd make your life difficult if libraries aren't in the same places :p
Anonymous
@Pavel Allowed? Sure. Should you? Probably not.
Anonymous
You'd be better off just building from source
@Pavel download the source code, compile.
save yourself the headaches.
16:19
The source is written in C#, so to compile that, I need... mono.
Lel
> ;-;
No idea if it would work for this, but there is .NET Core for Linux.
Wait, you use Mono on TIO, which has Fedora. How did you get that?
Anonymous
@Pavel You can make a lite install with make get-monolite-latest, which can be used to bootstrap Mono
16:22
Ooh, I see.
rpm --import "http://keyserver.ubuntu.com/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x3FA7E0328081BFF6A14DA29AA6A19B38D3D831EF"
dnf config-manager --add-repo download.mono-project.com/repo/centos
mono-complete
@Pavel ^
Judging by that URL, that is the CentOS package.
Which is really convenient.
Anonymous
If nothing else, you might be able to use the CentOS package to bootstrap the source build (assuming it doesn't just work out of the box)
16:56
Hey I'm thinking of proposing a challenge about finding floating-point numbers with palindromic representations. Would it be better to stick with single-precision binary32 floats or use the smaller but often less convenient binary16 format?
Anonymous
I'd actually say double precision would be better, given that a lot of languages use that format for their floats
floating-point arithmetic errors incoming.
Anonymous
@Pavel Why would there be arithmetic?
Ok, not arithmetic, but floating-point errors anyway.
Anonymous
Not really. Every float has a unique decimal representation. The only possible issue is that not all reals are representable by fixed-precision floats, and that doesn't matter for the challenge.
17:03
Would it be Ok to leave the choice of format to the answerer, or would that cause issues?
Anonymous
It would probably be simpler to just choose one format
Are you selling those?
Buying :)
iirc the 2720QM isn't particularly good.
Actually, nvm I don't know anything about mobile processors.
17:12
yawns
@Pavel mobile Xeons beat those.
my next laptop system will be mobile Xeon lol
Atoms?
I suppose those are more for tablets and not laptops.
Xeon E3-1505M v6 (Quad Core Xeon, 3.0GHz, 4.0GHz Turbo, 8MB cache, intel hd graphics 630)
Ooh, that's pretty good!
How expensive is the laptop?
Dell's business-line of workstation laptops are expensive
but will outclass things from here to the end of a decade lol
@Pavel with all the other requirements I have?
Just over $3k. With tax and shipping, about $3.2k
Wait, wut.
People don't build $3k gaming computers
17:15
it's not a gaming computer ;)
but it could be with the nvidia quadro on the thing
Why do you need a quadro?
wasn't an option to get without, on this model.
can just disable :P
IN ANY CASE, was no extra charge
i'm still going to outclass on the RAM and processor speeds alone :)
I think you might be overpaying for your laptop.
32GB DDR4 RAM is good too. The very expensive parts are the 3.0GHz proc, and the 32GB RAM, and the 1TB SSD
@Pavel the support contract for 3 yrs was also very pricey
nix that, and i save about $650
it's a Dell laptop, so blah, but i'm not paying for it :p
parents are, or Canonical Ltd. is.
and since I'm an Ubuntu guy, it's my new powerhouse workstation system that i will do everything on lol
Like, if I built a desktop to those specifications, minus the quadros, it would cost me maybe $500-600?
17:18
@Pavel I need the mobility of a laptop
@Pavel my workstation towers would be twice that though because ECC Registered RAM and dual-socket Xeons
You can get an Alienware gaming laptop with higher specs and lower cost.
@Pavel we all forget i'm a developer for Linux don't we :)
you're right I could, but I treat my systems well so this workstation laptop could last for 10 years total before needing replaced
and I have a dedicated gaming desktop already. I need the RAM, 1TB SSD, and other things for devleopment
i run at least seventeen automated builds of software at once with one script, so the RAM and CPU is critical.
also Xeons are still better than i7s.
Not significantly, and they have worse single-thread performance.
The only reason to have Quadros is if you work a Disney and need to render entire movies.
ECC ram is slower than regular ram and is only recommended for critical servers.
@Pavel to each their own, then, but let's not debate over this right now :P
I have better things to debate
like python2 vs. python3 :P
... Sorry.

@Pavel It's $15.
@ThomasWard I am using a business mainstream Dell laptop (E6410) from 2010 that is still very, very fast and useful even today.
@Mendeleev indeed. But I need the power. i7s aren't cutting it for what I need, and I very rarely do anything single-threaded :P
Have 8GB RAM i5 560M good enough for me :)
hell even my python scripts, they open threads for things.
17:46
Now I have a dilemma... I have an alternate version of an answer that I'm complaining about being too long. Would it be weird if I golfed my second version that I don't like?
Right now it's 52 bytes longer than my actual answer, but if I golf it, it'll only be 36 bytes longer lol
I just got my first flag review notification and reviewed it
ಠ_ಠ why would that get flagged
I saw it on the message, but couldn't actually review it
The blue background of the notification blended in with my avatar, I only noticed it because of the number

We're looking into ways to deal with it

17:51
@QPaysTaxes Agreed. The CMs have been notified of the issue, so hopefully they'll be able to deal with it, since we can't.
@AdmBorkBork You are hurting my soul.
Sorry.
But not really.
;-)
Just to make sure, an invalid flag means that the flagged message wasn't bad/offensive, right?
Sorry everyone, that was my flag. I honestly find the word h*** offensive, but if that is not considered offensive here, I will not flag.
@ComradeSparklePony Thanks letting us know. Right now a lot people are on edge because there has been an epidemic of flagging harmless messages. Your flag wasn't particularly bad, people are just very sensitive right now. Generally, mild language is seen as OK in moderation here.
17:55
@ComradeSparklePony Well, the context of the word in that message wasn't offensive
In the IEEE 754 standard, what is the total order on Inf and Nan values? I don't have convenient access to the standard myself at the moment or I'd look it up myself, but I can't seem to find it online.
Come to think of it, TNB pretty much doesn't need flags at all. Our ROs do an excellent job of quickly responding to star abuse etc.
Anonymous
@AJMansfield For any x such that x is not NaN, +Inf, or -Inf, -Inf < x < Inf. All comparisons involving NaN are false (or throw an error).
Anonymous
I may be misremembering though, so grain of salt and whatnot
@Pavel Thanks! But fwiw, flags aren't good for Star abuse (unless it's a mod only flag)
17:59
@Mego Unless you're PHP
But there's still times that flagging offensive messages is needed
