Note that it takes a couple of seconds for the information to appear, this is deliberate.

but that's mostly because stuff just 'died off'

it looks like it started dying off around 11PM my time

where stuff just 'stops pinging'

and then it throws TypeErrors I have to fix

but then just 'freezes'

the next time it pings is a few minutes later, and then it just 'freezes'

at least it isn't connection reset by peer errors

but i bet that has something to do with it

as for restart period i'm upping the check frequency to every 30 seconds

@Undo I'm going to switch it to my ESXi cluster after rsyncing the existing data over

if the same thing happens there too, then we'll have to trace backwards in some of our changes

New toy: To launch Smokey on a fresh 16.04 EC2 or DO instance, copy this file to "User Data" when creating the instance. Change the stuff at the top, and it'll take care of getting everything set up.

@ArtOfCode For example, when Thomas' stuff goes down and I want to launch my own, I can go create an EC2 instance, pass this as user data, launch it. Then come back a minute later, start a screen session, put in my password and it's up.

Instead of flailing around trying to remember how to add an SSH key to GitHub, and not getting the dependencies right the first time
