I am considering to give up on the physics/math explanation of magic. In fact, it doesn't help me to express my philosophical view through my story. It is just a battle of wills.

@Mithrandir24601 I dunno if this will help... the way I look at it is something like this. Say I suddenly obtain the ability to instantly teleport anywhere I want. People look at it and say "wow, that's magic!" Scientists start studying the effect, and discover a new, unknown principle that makes it possible for anyone to do. Now, was it magic before discovered the principle?

I've spent too much time on physics/math, and i think most of the readers will not care about. (Let's take A_Certain_Magical_Index as example again, although its physics concept is wrong, it is still popular)

So long as it satisfies Sanderson's first law of magic: "An author's ability to solve conflict satisfactorily with magic is directly proportional to how well the reader understands said magic" (there are 2 other, but this is the most important)

@fairytale Yeah, I've read a few books that get so bogged down in how things work that I stop caring why they happened in the first place.

@AndyD273 I think i may use this idea and end everything.

@AndyD273 Just because everyone believes that it's magic doesn't make it so :P

@Mithrandir24601 Exactly. So "magic as physics" is just getting into principles that haven't been explored yet. That's how I usually reason it anyway
Avoids any conflict

@AndyD273 I'll pretend that instead of magic you wrote "something incredible and impressive, that at first looks completely unexplainable by physics as we know it" Also: I have a feeling that we've had this discussion before :P

@Mithrandir24601 Could be, and that's pretty much what I said...

(and having replaced "magic" with all that jazz, I'm going to completely agree with you)

heh, don't get hung up on the word. Any technology, sufficiently advanced and all that

Yeah, I know

@Mithrandir24601 I Good idea :p
