@sv. Hi... how are you?...

sv.
@Tezz hello. good.

@sv. Where do you live...?

sv.
@Tezz somewhere on earth .. :P

@sv. Haha...

sv.
@Tezz I live in the US....only recently started my quest on Hindu scriptures.

3:49 AM
@sv. Oh ok... Good
@sv. so... are you from Hindu family..?

sv.
@Tezz of course :)

@sv. Ok...

4:06 AM
@sv. Did Mahabharatha mention Kanipaka temple?
@Tezz What are Adishankara views of Yoga School of thought?

sv.
@TheDestroyer I doubt if there were any temples around that time (Dwapara Yuga).

4:27 AM
@sv. Yeah. Legend says Vinayaka emerged recently.

1 hour later…
5:45 AM
@TheDestroyer In his Brahma Sutra Bhasya, he rejects philosophy of Yoga... ie. Prakirti is Eternal and Purush runs it... However in my view he rejects only philosophical aspect... not other aspects...

@Tezz see yogis comment
@TheDestroyer I have a full faith in my acharyas, and based on this belief on my acharyas and their knowledge including Adi Shankaracharya. I can assert that Yoga school of thought is false. They were not Some vedantis, they were great acharyas who laid foundations of Vedanta based on thoughts of Great Krishna Dwaipayana Veda Vyasa. Who is in turn compiler of vedas the one who knows everything about vedas. Read this sacred-texts.com/hin/sbe34/sbe34140.htmYogi 11 hours ago
@Tezz How can i support Kriya Yoga here? kriya Yoga is working and i don't understand why some people believe Philosophy and books only.

@TheDestroyer Brahma Sutra reject only ultimate philosophy of Yoga... ie. Prakirti is eternal...
This does not mean that yogic practices are wrong...

@Tezz Ok.

@TheDestroyer Ok...
@TheDestroyer yes...

1 hour later…
7:23 AM
@Tezz Adi Shankaracharya's Brahma Sutra Bhashya rejects not only the ultimate philosophy of the Yoga school but also the methods of the Yoga school.
@TheDestroyer I'm the one who turned the user Yogi into a Sri Vaishnava, by the way. But yeah, Yogi doesn't insult others unlike the user Krishna.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah. I know. (:P). I agree. Yogi is not rude like the other user.
@KeshavSrinivasan BTW, the other user is from Rayalaseema where people are like that. South Andhra people are somewhat rough.
@KeshavSrinivasan You might have observed when you visited tirupati. They behave somewhat rude or rough.
@KeshavSrinivasan but why to stick to so much on Philosophy when Yoga is also working?

1 hour later…
8:52 AM
@TheDestroyer I think Krishna is originally from Tamil Nadu, and then moved to Andhra Pradesh.

@KeshavSrinivasan by methods you mean Pranayama, Aasana, ....etc..?...

@KeshavSrinivasan No. I asked him. He is from Tirupati.

@TheDestroyer I've observed everybody from all parts of India acting rough in Tirupati, people are just so impatient in the line.
@TheDestroyer Oh, I vaguely remember him telling me he grew up in Tamil Nadu.

@KeshavSrinivasan I mean locals there. There are bit rough. But that place has venkateswara. I even wonder sometimes why did he decide to stay there.

@Tezz Yeah, Adi Shankaracharya says that the methods given in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras do not lead to Moksha.
@TheDestroyer Haha

8:57 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan but at least one can get Siddhis .... isn't it...?

@Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan i think Adi Shankara said that to completely refute Yoga school of thought.

@Tezz Well, Adi Shankaracharya doesn't address the issue of Siddhis, but in any case even Patanjali discouraged people from pursuing Siddhis.

@KeshavSrinivasan Adi Shankara himself was Siddha... He entered Kings body... It's possible only through Yoga...

@KeshavSrinivasan At some points, i feel Adi Shankara supported only Vedanta school deliberately demeaning other Schools.
@KeshavSrinivasan Patanjali is Adisesha, who is nothing but Lord Vishnu, How can Vaishnavas refute Patanjali's work?
@Tezz Yeah. Parakaya Pravesham is only possible through Yoga.

@Tezz Well, personally I'm skeptical of the story of Adi Shankaracharya entering the king's body, but in any case I'm just expressing skepticism of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. It is certainly possible to acquire powers through meditation and Tapasya.

9:02 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer No one can completely refute Patanjali Yoga Sutra... The first verse itself says "Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha." Yoga is stopping fluctuation of mind... Now who can object that stopping fluctuations of mind is bad...

@Tezz I'm not saying that every single statement in the Yoga Sutras is incorrect. If the Yoga Sutras were to say that water is wet, it would be right in that respect. I'm just saying that I view it with skepticism.

@KeshavSrinivasan Was there a time when Hinduism was dominated by Yoga school...?

@KeshavSrinivasan to get out of Skepticism, you should practice it. Self Knowledge is 100 times better than bookish knowledge or some Philosophy.
@KeshavSrinivasan We can't get Moksha only by Jnana.

@TheDestroyer That's exactly analogous to asking "Kapila is an incarnation of Vishnu, so how can Vaishnavas reject the Samkhya school?" I actually wrote a fictional dialogue related to Kapila founding the Samkhya school despite being an incarnation: docs.google.com/document/d/…

@TheDestroyer actually Shankara says moksha is possible only through Jnana...

9:08 AM
@TheDestroyer I agree that bookish knowledge isn't enough for Moksha. That's why I intend to perform Sharanagati. I urge you (and every other human on the planet) to do the same.

But many other factors aid to reach Jnana...

@Tezz Yeah. Jnana here refers direct and indirect. Indirect is via books and elders. But direct Jnana is best. You experience it and life teaches it.

@KeshavSrinivasan If one is surrendered through heart... then In my view there is no purpose of ritualistic Sharanagati... if he is not purified by heart then whatever rituals he do... it won't help...

@TheDestroyer And to be clear, I'm not opposed to meditation in general. I certainly think that meditation on the 32 Brahmavidyas can lead you to Jnana and thus Moksha.

@Tezz Indirect Jnana is not always trustworthy. Among these two, Direct is best. But as life is of limited lifespan, we learn indirect knowledge.

9:12 AM
@Tezz Sri Vaishnavas believe the opposite, we believe that even a big sinner who has no love for Vishnu can perform Sharanagati, and then after Sharanagati Vishnu will purify his heart and fill his heart with Bhakti.

@Tezz I agree with you.

@TheDestroyer yes, ultimate pramana us Pratakshya Pramana only...
@KeshavSrinivasan are you sure who has performed Sharanagati will not become criminal latter... or will not think bad of others...?

@TheDestroyer Yeah, direct Jnana is definitely the best. That is the entire purpose of the Vedanta school and the Brahma Sutras, to produce direct Jnana of Brahman.
@Tezz It is definitely possible to commit sins after Sharanagati. Sri Vaishnavas believe that Vishnu will gradually transform your heart after Sharanagati, but people still have the ability to commit sins.

@KeshavSrinivasan isn't this contradicting itself?
@KeshavSrinivasan Converse can be true. Those with pure heart prays to Vishnu, He will clear all his sins.

@TheDestroyer yes I agree with you... actually when they perform Sharanagati they can become more worse... because they now believe that their Moksha is granted....

9:19 AM
@TheDestroyer Sri Vaishnavas believe that even someone who starts out having no Bhakti to Vishnu will be rescued from all sins if they perform Sharanagati.

@Tezz it instills more negative traits. They may feel that Lord Vishnu is behind them and nothing will happen as they ultimately get Moksha.

@Tezz @TheDestroyer By the way, this is related to a difference between Thenkalais and Vadakalais. Thenkalais believe that once you've performed Sharanagati you are no longer required to follow Dharma, but you should do so anyway to set an example for others. Vadakalais believe that Dharma is still obligatory after Sharanagati, and if you violate it then you'll be punished for it in this birth itself, but you'll still attain Moksha anyway.

@KeshavSrinivasan when a person performs Sharanagati and then commits Suicide then his moksha is granted... are there any Vaishnava who did this?...

@KeshavSrinivasan This is like a Puranic saying. Those who visits Kashi will definitely get Moksha (granted for sure but time may vary).

@TheDestroyer Well, in practice the attitude people generally adopt after Sharanagati is "I'm so grateful that Vishnu saved me from my sins, now I want to please him for the rest of my life."

@KeshavSrinivasan Is there any scope of Advaita in Vaishnavism?

@KeshavSrinivasan I think people behavior or attitude is important. No. You think like that. Not all who do Sharanagati.

@TheDestroyer I'm not sure when person performs Sharanagati and visits Varanasi one will get moksha or not... but I'm definitely sure one who performs Sharanagati by heart or reaches (Varana Nasi) (middle of eyebrow)... one will definitely be Liberated...

@TheDestroyer That is the general attitude of people who have done Sharanagati.

@Tezz Do you've Sanskrit-Hindi book of Sri Bhashya or Shankara Bhashya?

@Tezz There is actually a rare form of Sharanagati called Artha Prapatti where someone who is really eager to attain Paramapadam right this second requests instant death from Vishnu. Vishnu grants it only to extremely great devotees.

9:27 AM
@Tezz I believe attitude or mindset is very important.

@KeshavSrinivasan I have Sanskrit book of Shankara Bhasya......

@Tezz Vishnu granted Artha Prapatti to the Sri Vaishnava Acharya Manavala Mamunigal, as I discuss in this answer:
1
A: Upadesa Rathnamalai

Keshav SrinivasanFirst of all, Thiruvarangathu Amudhanar's 108-verse poem in praise of Ramanujacharya is called the Ramanuja Nootrandhadhi. Here are the first ten verses: O Hean! Come let us recite Ramanuja's name. He set men of learning on the proper track. He worshipped the feet of the prolific poet M...

@KeshavSrinivasan Doesn't this mean that present people who have performed Sharanagati love their life and earthly relation more than Param Padam of Vishnu...? Or they actually have sub conscious doubt on getting Param Pada or not...

@Pandya I think i saw Sankrit Hindi book on a site but i forgot.

@KeshavSrinivasan Are Kaivalya and Ekatva same?
@TheDestroyer which book?

9:32 AM
@Pandya I think Brahma sutras with Shankara commentary in Sanskrit and Hindi. Which one do you want?

@TheDestroyer yes, that is exactly what I'm looking for
Btw,

@Pandya They forgot Dravidian languages.
@Pandya 80% Telugu is Sanskrit.

@Pandya - Thanks for this image , its very informative :)

3 hours later…
1:58 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan What do you think about Lord Vishnu's fondness of Silk garments? Silk is made by killing Silkworms.

2:33 PM
@Tezz "Doesn't this mean that present people who have performed Sharanagati love their life and earthly relation more than Param Padam of Vishnu...?" There's a very why good reason apart from Manavala Mamunigal, most Sri Vaishnava Acharyas don't perform Artha Prapatti. First of all, they want to help other follow the path of Sharanagati and attain Moksha, and second of all, they don't want to miss the opportunity to worship the divinely created Vishnu statues that are on Earth.
@Pandya "Are Kaivalya and Ekatva same?" Yes, they are the same.

2:44 PM
@Pandya "Is there any scope of Advaita in Vaishnavism?" Yes, of course. Vaishnavism is just the belief that Vishnu is supreme, it's compatible with any Vedantic philosophy. The early Advaitins all had Vishnu is their Ishta Devata, and even if you focus on philosophical Vaishnavism, i.e. belief in the Pancharatra Agamas, Adi Shankaracharya disagreed with the philosophy of Pancharatra Agamas, but other early Advaitins believed in Pancharatra.
@Pandya Here is a work by an Advaitin defending the scriptural authority of the Pancharatra Agamas: open.library.ubc.ca/media/stream/pdf/831/1.0097776/2
@Pandya Also, there is this book which attempts to interpret the Pancharatra Agamas from the viewpoint of Advaita: amazon.co.uk/philosophy-Pancaratra-Advaitic-approach/dp/… I haven't read it though.

3:11 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan "The early Advaitins all had Vishnu is their Ishta Devata". Where it is mentioned?

@Tezz How are you ?

@KrishnShweta All fine... how are you?...

@Tezz I'm good.
Actually yesterday you said you were suffering from cold so I asked you.

@KrishnShweta I'm still suffering... but at least better than yesterday...

@Tezz you will be totally fine tomorrow :-)

@KrishnShweta hehe.. I wish so...
@KrishnShweta oh what are you doing?...

6:04 PM
