6:20 PM
I think I'm just going to go hide in a hole in shame now.

@Wipqozn You weren't doing that already?

@Wipqozn The "tricky situation" is that we're caught between either tagging a singular entity that we're otherwise trying not to have (tagging the game recommendation aspect), or we have to find tags that apply to a much larger scope that it fits within, which in itself may also encourage questions we don't want. so while I see the value in reducing the question count for tags that are likely to be bad, I don't see the value in nuking it entirely

@RonanForman I'm free all day.

6:34 PM
or we'd undermine the whole point why we made that question to begin with

I just don't think it's a particularly good question or answer, tbh. "go look at steam" "here's a few gaming blog sites"
it's too localized and it's a list of links

The existence of a tag entails "This is something we can ask about". It's the same argument behind your earlier argument against weapons, "what do you mean off-topic? I can't ask a question about weapons? You have a tag for it, and a hundred friggin' questions!". Now, admittedly, we'd only have one tag, but that itself is an issue.

What's wrong with a list of links?
@GraceNote Yes, but we do have a few questions that are good and can't be tagged otherwise

6:38 PM
what makes a game recommendation site "good" that is not subjective?

@agent86 There's a difference between an answer that's just a link ("hey! the answer is BEHIND this link!") and an answer that recommends other resources ("hey! this answer IS this link!").

@RonanForman My day should be pretty flexible

@agent86 Wish we could have an answer to that other than the one we've currently got: "a game recommendation can never be good subjective ever"
(reminder: we do allow good subjective questions)

@badp I'm speaking in the context of the question. links in general, yes, good. a list of gaming blog sites, bad.

6:40 PM
What time zone are you in again?

@agent86 There might be a reason why the top answer does not link to gaming blog sites
Rock Paper Shotgun also is not a place that is going anywhere any time soon, unlike a generic blog.

@agent86 Sure, he could've linked to the list of all games of all times that must be somewhere someplace on Wikipedia, but he decided to give a more specific recommendation instead

@RonanForman Pretty sure John's EST

I don't see why "If a game is on Steam, it's typically an above-par one" would be an absolutely bad recommendation and I wouldn't see a game catalogue as a bad starting point to hunt for a game to play, so long as it's good.
that said I didn't upvote that answer.

It may not be absolutely bad, but it certainly doesn't help a non-PC gamer

Sometimes there's no absolute truth. It's okay. It doesn't mean the question is bad.

@Ronan I think my day should be fairly flexible also.

"How do I handle my unruly guildie?" would be a good subjective on-topic question for the site without one hard universally good answer.

6:49 PM
I seem to remember some people thinking steam was of the devil. If we put aside that answer, the rest are links to blogs and review sites, which you can't say one is definitively better than the rest for all people

The whole system of acceptance technically purports that a question should have a feasible conclusion, either by practicality or by practice. That's one of the reasons why "itemized lists" have been bad from the get-go
One of the original thought patterns behind the "Just get all the resources" question was to create a single answer containing all such resources - seeing as the conclusion of "What's a list of X" is the full list, not just a single item on the list.

That's what I was hoping to encourage with a bounty

you want a list of all the ways to get a game recommendation?

If the issue is that the current status has the issue of "No one answer can actually conclude the question", then let's amend that by making a conclusion.

I think that's near-infinite

6:52 PM

@Powerlord Ok, thanks. @Ronan I think that means I'm in EDT.

How does around 4pm UTC sound?

@agent86 Closing is one option. But it's not a golden key or anything.

I feel sometimes like I'm on the supreme court or something (well, without any of the actual gravity or importance such a position holds ;) ) - trying to interpret the words of the Founding Fathers and respect their wishes and intents without their input :)

* Game reviewing resources ([example](http://arstechnica.com/author/ben-kuchera/))

* Game recommendation engines ([example](http://decideotron.com/))

@agent86 Repositories in general - that's why we dropped game recommendations in the first place.

We still label it a game-rec and close it as such.
We're not a wiki. We suck at maintaining posts.

@AshleyNunn - Not on topic. Replace "Gaming" with "Boating" and the question still works: "How to find Boating buddies"

Maybe you can't. (:

There's no "boating community on Steam"

If something does change, that's your answer.
That's the stance we had on meta anyway.

@AshleyNunn Well, picture it like this: Bacon is tasty. Does it make sense now?

Steam doesn't work for books, or rowing. The local library wouldn't be the first place you'd look for gamers in. You wouldn't take rowing classes to find other people that dig it.

user15026
@Powerlord Nope. Makes me want bacon though.

hrm, I thought that one wasn't so bad

7:11 PM
I don't think that using the specificity of the service is a strong argument.

user15026
@badp ....yeah but I am not trying to tell them to do that. It's about using something other people who have that interest use.

@GraceNote Well, there are rowing classes but are there book reading classes or game playing classes?

7:14 PM
@badp I agree with the principle behind "Does the answer change?", I just don't think that Steam is much of the root of the answer that would make the principle come to light in this scenario.

fine. (That's probably why I came up with both book reading and rowing.)
Consider then answers such as "become a regular by one server and you'll automatically grow bonds with people as you play often with them."
I guess it can still be translated to other contexts, but not with the same ease I suppose. It wouldn't work as well in a library, e.g.

@badp For physical activity, you'd look into club memberships and such.

Put her up on dropbox or something.

In a folder called "WHO IS THIS. THIS IS MY KITTY. MY KITTY SHE IS."

I would download a cat, but only if I could put it on a USB key when it was being naughty

The problem is, would you UPLOAD your cat?

The problem is what if the cat uses Dropbox as a litter box?
