Jokes aside, I do think language barrier is partly to blame.
I would've written a post on LL about how language barrier affects perception of written note if it were on-topic.

I've seen people on ELL get angry over much smaller things in comments, sometimes. Also in meta.
Lack of fluency in the communication medium would result in insecurities.
