A: What is the most frequent word?

R. KapPython 3.5, 142 137 134 112 117 110 bytes: def g(u):import re;q=re.findall(r"\b['\-\w]+\b",u.lower());Q=q.count;return['',max(q,key=Q)][len({*map(Q,q)})>1] This submission assumes that at least 1 word is input. Try It Online! (Ideone)

@R.Kap I really doubt that regexp is the best way for that challenge :P

Beat nearly half the answers all all the answers in Python! :D

@Maltysen Which one?

@R.Kap oh nvm, you actually beat the other answers, nice!

12:04 AM
pies

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what are you talking about >_>

@Maltysen what are you talking about <_<

nothing >_<

@Maltysen Actually, never mind. I need it to find similar words amid a lot of other characters.
@Maltysen Thanks! :)

12:08 AM
@R.Kap oh I was coming up with a python solution myself... I let you make yours and help you though :P

@Maltysen You let me make mine...what?

@R.Kap a non regex solution

@Maltysen I think if you really want to make it short, you have got to use Regular expressions.

well, I'll see. I think I can get it shorter than 110, though

@Maltysen Okay, let's see. In that case, maybe I might make mine devoid of regular expressions also.

12:12 AM
well, I'm still using regexps for removing non alphabet-spaces

@Maltysen I did try using re.sub() already, but it's a lot longer than using plain re.findall() to find all the words using word boundaries.
@Maltysen Also, you need to remove all other characters except "-", which I don't really know how you would do in a short manner without using regular expressions.

@R.Kap wait, you need to keep -?
nvm then

@Maltysen Yeah, and also apostrophes if you can.
I mean, that's what mine does.

yeah yours is pretty nice

@Maltysen Thanks. :)
@Maltysen Actually, I just figured one out that is completely regex free, although it's a lot longer at 172 bytes.

12:27 AM
Alright, what should I name my (very WIP) game?: niwhsa9.github.io/Space-War
it only works on chrome and safari atm btw.
it should work on ff but it doesn't for some reason.

It's like galaga

@QPaysTaxes yeah ik.

the sprites don't load, that's probably why

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ yeah sort of. It will get more unqiue, power ups, leveling, mini-bosses, weapon upgrades. But galaga is the base concept.

@AshwinGupta oh, cool!

12:32 AM
ik, whats weird is this though:

that is weird

@QPaysTaxes yeah death messages aren't set up yet.

+1 for mind reading

or deaths.
LOL
I hadn't started yet.

@QPaysTaxes VOLDEMORT???

12:33 AM
ok, the thing is this: on my local file system, I can open the html file w/ ff and it runs just fine.

On github io, when I open the page, it doesn't work.
assets are all there.
They are the same assests for chrome and ff. All hosted on the same branch of the repo.
I mean why would the assets load for chrome but not ff?

=/ well I gotta figure it out sooner or later
not now though.

if (browser == "Chrome") givePriority = true; else if (browser == "IE") crash;

12:36 AM
if(browser == "Netscape Navigator") alert("uhhh")

@AlexA. is it bad for me to admit that I just put that in my console and tried it?

XD

I wish there was such a property :P

I just made something
for the JS master race
It runs Node ES6
Without Babel
In the browser
yay

Actually I guess you could use navigator.userAgent to get the browser but I don't understand the values that takes on well enough to modify my pseudocode. :P

12:44 AM
xD
@MamaFunRoll so... what is it

> "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_10_5) AppleWebKit/601.5.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/9.1 Safari/601.5.17"
Wtf even
> It runs Node ES6 without Babel in the browser

but node es6 has things like file io

I know someone who was attacked by a wild turkey when she was young. She doesn't really like turkey meat but she eats it every chance she gets out of spite.

1:03 AM
@AlexA. User agents are weird

I don't know if I should be saying this while so many people are in this room, but I'm considering posting a question on Code Review.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ thanks.
and hi!

@PhiNotPi cool! what about?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ HAI

wtf my chat textbox is weird

1:14 AM
@AlexA. .... that sounds like somebody I know.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ have you been here while I've been talking about a tagging/crafting system?

@PhiNotPi I have.

OBTW Random disgusting thing of the day: I watched somebody eat 10 pickles in one bite......
slices of pickle I mean.
@PhiNotPi yeah.
Is it working?

@PhiNotPi Code Review is a nice place. They're very supportive, especially of PPCG folks coming to them to post good code. :P

1:15 AM
Well, I finally have something that works, kinda, but it's by far the most-hacked-together thing I think I've ever written in Java.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ >_> you have so much rep from PPCG voters....

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ikr
they see me rolling

Did you see my CR questions?

1:17 AM
Not even the FOG interpreter???

apparently so

oh
btw, are you going to start playing brogue now?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ no, studying for finals

o_O so much golfin can be done
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ BAI!!! hint hint

I only have a french final tomorrow
*oral final

oh
cool, go study and come back later

> The speaking section (le futur simple et le conditionnel):
Le futur simple - 2 phrases
Le conditionnel - 2 phrases
Example practice questions for La Partie Orale :
Le conditionnel :
Si tu avais le temps, qu'est-ce que tu ferais ? Je … (2 phrases)
Si tu étais riche, où est-ce que tu voyagerais ? Je … (2 phrases)
Si tu avais beaucoup d'argent, qu'est-ce que tu achèterais ? Je … (2 phrases)
Le futur simple :
Décrivez ce que vous ferez avec tes amis pendant l'été. Nous… (2 phrases)
Décrivez ce que vous ferez en français 3. Nous … (2 phrases)

This code answers the following question: if an item's color is determined by its material, and wood is a material, and oak is a type of wood, and wood is brown, then what color is oak?
And it outputs [Color:Brown]

1:21 AM
@QPaysTaxes c'est itallienne?
@PhiNotPi it should be brown

What you don't see in that main method is literally 10 internal classes, each of which contains multiple Maps or Sets.

Today somebody asked me "Hey, isn't nethack like call of duty?"
w. t. f.

It's basically CoD.

Wow, Project Rider is awesome. It's so much faster than VS and so much more useful than MonoDevelop. I encourage anyonw who uses C# here to check it out.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ they are both inferior to TF2

1:23 AM
CoD with an improved texture pack.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ... no
@PhiNotPi .... no

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ yah

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Edon's just a way for me to use ES6 on my phone.

@MamaFunRoll oic

1:24 AM
@QPaysTaxes Dunno. It's a C# IDE with R# built-in.

TF2.funness == nethack.funness
true

I really wanted to use arrow functions.
Really badly.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ okai
@MamaFunRoll I understand XD

@Quill They don't know what Inf means in a programming context.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I think you misspelled IF

Don't let Doorknob see that. He'll be upset that Game doesn't extend Nethack.

@QPaysTaxes Kudos
@QPaysTaxes yah

@Doorknob .. you always appear right when somebody mentions something you like.

class Nethack() extends CoD() {

}

@QPaysTaxes I thought that was an insightful comment.

1:38 AM
@Downgoat I propose super * to inherit all properties of parent class in Cheddar.

@QPaysTaxes I unstarred the idiot one.
^^

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ then the other one will make less sense

@QPaysTaxes because they like to star you being a human and being humble about your abilities, I guess

It's a steam thing.

BREAK HIS STREAK STAR THIS >:D

1:39 AM
@QPaysTaxes restarred.
@QPaysTaxes I don't wanna star because 2-2-2.....

someone please answer this :|

@Downgoat ^^ feature request
@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ which lang?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what feature is being requested?

1:46 AM
tab removal

@Downgoat an Any type arg, so you could have a string or number or anything

@AlexA. that's already been added I think
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Simply don't provide an explicit type and any type will be allowed

@Downgoat Oh, okay :|
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ @Downgoat idk if you saw this
@QPaysTaxes ಠ╭╮ಠಠ_ಠ

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ sounds good, will do

Hey, does anyone have thoughts on this sandbox post before I de-sandboxify it?

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ yeah
what is Flack-Overstow??

When your stack overflows so hard it hurts your brain.

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ there's a lenny in here somewhere

@Downgoat totally.I use one of these, except it's larger:

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ who is the red dragon on that? Is that your cousin?

@Downgoat That's actually a bird-dragon.
The awkward cousin.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ O_o
I do not want to know how that became to be

It's rather interesting.
Are you sure?

yes

@Downgoat Have you implemented classes in Cheddar?

2:07 AM
@quartata Internally yes, I have also written the tokenizer for classes, I just need to write the think linking the tokens with the class

I can't help but feel like you're getting a little ahead of yourself. I speak from experience; the number one cause of death in hobby projects is shelving it for progressively more premature and smaller side projects

@quartata yeah, that's pretty much what I'm doing
I cannot fix a bug because it's a bug with node

What's the bug?

some stuff becomes undefined with circular dependencies
in a high-level language such as JS I shouldn't have that sort of problem

More specific? You don't have to eli5
Trying to see if maybe this is an xy problem

2:12 AM
@quartata "eli5"?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ explain it like I'm 5

@Downgoat oh. til

@quartata no, it isn't.
I should submit a bug ticket to node but I'm too lazy. and I've been really busy lately

I guarantee you there's a workaround

that would require significant restructuring of the existing codebase which relies on circular dependencies working correctly.

2:15 AM
If it's a circular dependency issue why can't you just check to see if the namespace is defined and if so don't import

@quartata because that namespace is required? I've already tried all the solutions I can think of. Certain files are only being loaded once with dependencies as undefined.

I don't understand. I literally mean something like this:

Q: Write a brain-flak interpreter!

Dr Green Eggs and Ham DJBrain-Flak (a cross between Brainf**k and Flack-Overstow) is a stack-based esoteric language. You must write a program or function that takes a string of Brain-Flak code, and evaluates it. It will also take a (possible empty) list of integers. There are the inputs to the Brain-Flak program.
