If you're going to use ES6, you should probably use let. let generally helps avoid problems with scoping. Try to also use const for constants.

What general tips do you have for golfing in Factor? I'm looking for ideas that can be applied to code golf problems in general that are at least somewhat specific to Factor (e.g. "remove comments" is not an answer).
One line variable declaration
Please avoid declaring variables on the same line:
var elements = {}, messages;
It's also a great way to royally mess up scope issues if you do it on two lines but still with spaces.
