@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Hence why it didn't get downvoted

Yeah.
IMO Jolf is also far from shortened JS, but I guess that's not what the downvoter thought.

I am super proud of this answer:

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Oh hey I was the downvoter on that one. How is it different from just shortened JS?

@Mego D:
Well, let me explain.

Anonymous
12:03 AM
Give me a good explanation of how it's different (and edit that into the post so I can undownvote), and I'll remove my downvote :)

Jolf contains A LOT of functions that are not in regular javascript. I have around 2k lines of code implementing functions useful to javascript. It is a decision-based model of programming (not a lot of room for looping, etc; that would have to be done with maps over arrays and the like). While it has the ability to emulate regular javascript code, this ability is hindered with the desired style of a Jolf programmer.
Does that work?

Anonymous
Short JavaScript + more functions is still just short JavaScript

Then why is Pyth not python?

Anonymous
Because Pyth significantly deviates away from Python; it doesn't provide aliases for everything. Rather, it provides useful functions, some of which are in Python, and some of which are not. It's more inspired by Python at this point than it is just shortened Python.

Short python + useful functions is still just short python.

12:10 AM
Writing a Pyth interpreter in a language other than Python would not be an overly difficult task. Can you say the same about Jolf and JavaScript?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ uh, Pyth is not short Python

@Mego Yes, if you drop the JS literal bit.
Which is simple enough and not integral to Jolf.

Anonymous
Pyth's object model and syntax deviate far from Python's

Python is implemented in C and is sorter than C but it's not shortened C.
You know, for a language implemented in C, you'd think it would be faster...

and C is implemented in just machine code right?

12:12 AM
gcc is written in C

GCC is written in wizard blood and black magic

@Doorknob I thought they moved both it and g++ to C++ a while back

maybe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anonymous
Or maybe it's just g++

Let's compare Japt (javascript shortened) and Jolf (which I claim to be more.) Every task in JavaScript can be done in Japt. in the same way. However, not every task in Japt (or JS) is able to be done in Jolf the same way. Because of the way Jolf is transpiled, the JS literals are often impossible to use, and are rather a handicap.

12:14 AM
Python is implemented in crayons on wide-rule lined paper.

In that way, Jolf differs from JavaScript.
@AlexA. And sharpies.

@AlexA. Does that mean that Pyth is implemented in coloured pencils on college-ruled lined paper?

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I'm not the best with words, as you've probably noticed in our many interactions. Right now, I'm trying and failing to find a way to explain why, to me, Pyth is not just shortened Python, but Jolf is shortened JavaScript. It's not that I dislike Jolf; I just find it uninteresting. I find a lot of things uninteresting. That doesn't mean they're bad.

@GamrCorps College ruled? Let's not get too crazy now.

@Mego I don't argue that Japt isn't shortened JS. Did you mean to type Jolf?

Anonymous
12:16 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ They only upgraded to sharpies for Python 3.

I'm glad you looked it up first rather than blindly following my advice >_>

@AlexA. @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Since the last total eclipse over the US was in 1918, I think another year and a half would count as soon on that scale

@Sherlock9 that only works if you pronounce "Pyth" the weird isaacg way

@Doorknob I always pronounce it like the beginning of pithy.

Ambrosia is my current favorite
'Ambrosia' is a cultivar of apple originating in British Columbia in the early 1990s. The original tree was first cultivated by the Mennell family of Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, who discovered the apple growing in their orchard. == Description == The fruit is medium to large, weighing about 215 grams (0.474 lb), and has mostly red, glossy colouration, with yellow patches. It has cream-coloured, firm meat with a sweet flavour reminiscent of pear and low acidity. 'Ambrosia' harvest is mid to late season. Trees are hardy and no major disadvantages have yet been identified. == Parentage... ==

@AlexA. I have a new favorite, Lady Alice:
Lady Alice is a recent cultivar of domesticated apple which was discovered in 1979 at an orchard near Gleed, Washington as a chance seedling and is a registered trademark by the Rainier Fruit Company. It is named after Alice Zirkle, a co-founder of the company. The Lady Alice apple has a dense and crispy texture and a rich heirloom-like complex flavor, sweet with hints of tart. It is typically stored after harvest and sold to the retail customer at the flavor's peak. It is suitable for fresh eating as a snack, as well as for cooking and baking. Among its specialty characteristics is that it doesn...

@AquaTart Those are good.

They're quite a bit cheaper than Honeycrisps which is a big plus ;)

Honeycrisps got expensive for some reason.

Yeah.

Ambrosia have been on sale lately at my local grocery store so I've been getting those.
It wasn't the first time I've had them though.
I had them at some apple stand in the middle of nowhere, Washington.

If we're posting our favorite apples:
Opal is the brand name for a variety of apple produced by crossing Golden Delicious with Topaz. Developed by the Institute of Experimental Botany in Prague and FruitSelect in 1999, it is grown by Broetje Orchards in Washington and marketed by the First Fruits company. It is also cultivated in Austria, the Netherlands and France. Opal is a varietal cultivar accepted under UEB 3264/2 by the Community Plant Variety Office of the European Union. == References == == External links == Opal Brand Page Opal Information Page Institute of Experimental Botany Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic...
