Ooh cute.
Mr Lit does look a lot like Jesus.
I like what he did with his beard and ear rings.

Q: What is the correct way to write this sentence?

David Give or take away something from someone. The problem in this sentence is that normally one would say "Give to" or "take away from" someone, but what should I write when I want to refer to both alternatives?

I could swear we've had this before...
Umpossible to search for.

the anti-searchability of many of our questions is a recurring problem

Solution: recast sentence (to the question).

2:17 PM
Well, post that as an answer, then we can close all questions as a dupe of this one and go home.

Some questions have other solutions. Not this one.

How so?
I don't see a need to recast.
"Give to or take away from something from someone."
Oh wait.
Haha.

I mean if the OP finds that ugly.

Well you know what I mean.
Because I don't.

Always.

2:19 PM
No Bon Jovi in this chat.

What?
That isn't even proper Latin.

}} "Always" is a power ballad by Bon Jovi. It was released as a single from their 1994 album, Cross Road and went on to become their best selling single, with 1.5 million copies sold in the U.S. and more than 3 million worldwide. The song reached #4 in the U.S. Billboard charts, #2 on the top 40 mainstream and was also an international hit (#2 in both the United Kingdom and Australia and #4 in Germany). Song origin The song was originally written for the soundtrack to the film Romeo Is Bleeding, but after disliking the film, the band decided not to lend the song to the producers. Jon Bon...
"Power ballad". Hahahahahaha.
Is that how they call that shit?

I can't even read that.

Good morning.

that's the first time I've heard Bon Jovi accused of being improper Latin

2:20 PM
Hies.

Hey Bob.

@Cerberus Hey mahn.

Hey I didn't pick that name for him.
Or it would have been proper.

@Cerberus Well, to his defense, Bon Jovi is way better than Mal Jovi. Or Anchovy.

/dʒ/ ≠ /tʃ/
And I like anchovy.

2:25 PM
That's because they don't sing power ballads.

Well, I suppose *Bon Jovi is better than Mush Room at least.
God I hate fungi.

> Dazu wird aus Bonn in das ARD-Hauptstadtstudio geschalten.
Uhm did someone tell these guys about the recent unification?
Poor Bonn.

The story goes like that: back in the day that program used to be called "Bon(n)jour". It wasn't funny even back then, but at least it kind of worked.
But then they moved the capital to Berlin.

I sort of got that, thank you.

2:28 PM
And those guys just slapped a "Berlin" onto the old title.
So now it's ever more hideouser than ever.

I remember when it was always "Bonn decides this, Bonn does that" on television.

I don't.

No?

That was decades ago.

When was it moved? Early 90s I think?
Less than two decades, surely.

2:29 PM
1991.

No, 1999.
So that explains it.
I was 16 then.

Well, the law passed on June 20th, 1991.

Irrelevant, sorry.

It just took them a while to move everything.

More relevant.

2:30 PM
@Cerberus Very much relevant.

Nope, it was still the seat of government.

Not on paper.
Look, the Chancellor moved even later, in 2001.
Now what?

The Berlin/Bonn Act () regulated the move of the German Bundestag and parts of the government from Bonn to Berlin. It also regulated the move of certain Federal agencies and other federal facilities to Bonn. The act was a consequence of the Hauptstadtbeschluss () of June 20, 1991 which made Berlin the seat of government. Berlin had already been the capital of the united germany since the Unification Treaty of October 3, 1990. The Berlin/Bonn Act was enacted on April 26, 1994. The act's full official title is Act for the implementation of the enactment of the German Bundestag of June 20, 199...

There you go. Thank you.

> it was the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 and the official seat of government of united Germany from 1990 to 1999. Starting in 1998, many national government institutions were moved from Bonn to Berlin.
Wiki seems to be self contradictory.

2:32 PM
snicker, gurgle You said 'seat.'

What wonder.

But that's the whole point. The situation was a mess.
Some people commuted from Berlin to Bonn and back every single day.
It cost millions.

> The most important year was 1999 when the Bundestag moved to the Reichstag building in Berlin.

I wonder if there are any countries where the capital, the official seat of government, and where the government actually is, are all different places.

> The Berlin/Bonn Act was enacted on April 26, 1994.

2:34 PM
@z7sgѪ Isn't that Peru?

@Kitḫ Hehe you made a snowman!

I am more concerned that they write "united germany".

So I wonder whether the Act says, "from this moment, the capital shall be Berlin", or rather, "from year x on, etc.".

If only we had some sort of tool that would help...

I don't think anybody ever reads the Acts.

2:35 PM
Perhaps we could fashion some sort of primitive lathe...

@Kitḫ Like a screwdriver?
Jinx!
Or a dildo?

So for all intents and purposes, it said "from 500 BC retroactively".

@Kitḫ Ah no it seems it's Bolivia

I don't like that phrase "for all intents and purposes".

@Cerberus Hey! Minor here.

2:36 PM
@Cerberus My goodness, you are feisty today! Good weekend?

@Mahnax I'm sure you can take that.

@z7sgѪ Oh, that's right. La Paz and Sucre.

@Cerberus Peeving disguised as not a question!

@RegDwightѬſ道 Guilty.

@Cerberus Ahh, my virgin ears! screams, dies inside

2:37 PM
@Kitḫ I forgot it was still morning in your occidental countries.

receives scolding from mother for screaming

@Mahnax Have a glass of wine to recover.

giggle

You know what I'm doing at this very moment?

I'm supposed to be preparing for a mtg, you naughty children!

2:38 PM
@Cerberus Is it port?

Eating leftover lemon tiramisu with loads of Limoncello in it.

@Cerberus Oh dear.
@Cerberus Oh. What's Limoncello?

@Mahnax No, sherry.

Is it better than your lemon soup? It can't possibly be worse...

@Cerberus What's limoncello?

2:38 PM
@Kitḫ You must be joking, right?

Limoncello () is an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy, especially in the region around the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the coast of Amalfi and islands of Procida, Ischia and Capri, but also in Sicily, Sardinia, Menton in France, and the Maltese island of Gozo. Though there is debate about the exact origin of the drink, it is at least one hundred years old. Traditionally, it is made from the zest of Femminello St. Teresa lemons (also known as Sorrento lemons). Most lemons, including the more-common Eureka lemon will produce satisfactory limoncell...

@RegDwightѬſ道 No.

@Mahnax You must be joking, right?

@Cerberus Is that good?

Seriously, people. WTF!

2:39 PM
@Cerberus Oh. Delicious.

It is maybe the only sweet alcoholic drink I like.

Wait. Yes, I know that.

It's great. What's not to like: lemon and alcohol.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Hey, I don't know about your silly alcohols.

Next thing you tell me you don't know who Gagarin was.

2:39 PM
Limoncello and vodka in an upglass = lemon drop, I think.

@Mahnax It's not mine.
And of course you would say that as a minor.

I'll just have lots of Limoncello, period.

@RegDwightѬſ道 I meant you adults in general.

@RegDwightѬſ道 I've had sexual relations with Yuri. He was great, but fast.

@RegDwightѬſ道 It is to be expected.

2:40 PM
Should have fed him some Limoncello.

Well, I have to get to school. Be back in 45 minutes.

Better than Violoncello.
@Mahnax That's a very short school.

in Linguistics, 17 hours ago, by hippietrail
wow chechen has six genders!

@Kitḫ I doubt that was the real Gagarin.

No wonder you don't know jack about Limoncello. What could they possibly teach you in less than 45 minutes?

2:41 PM
@z7sgѪ I don't know. He took me to the stars...

I suppose one could down a bottle in that time...

@z7sgѪ I doubt that was real, period.

And die from alcohol intoxication.

@Cerberus Cheer up. If you don't drink alcohol, you will die.

Good point.
But I'll have some tiramisu first if you don't mind.
My brother made it. Thank God he hates coffee liquors too.

2:42 PM
Hey!
Can't make no White Russian with limoncello.

What? Preposterous!
Wait. No.
What? Sensible!

Let's just settle for "What?"

What?

Eight.

2:44 PM
Now that you mention it...

spittake
wipes coffee off of computer keyboard

@RegDwightѬſ道 Sorry, but you shouldn't be offended, unless you're of Belarussian descent and I haven't noticed?

@Cerberus That's a lot of ifs.

Reg is of every descent.
Also, decent.

You fill in the blanks.

2:46 PM
And possibly, tumescent.

Descent of a woman.

groan

That's just low.

You started it. You invaded Poland.

What!?
You did!
We sat here and did nothing.

2:47 PM
Poland has historically belonged to my country. I simply annexed it.

May 7 at 12:55, by Robusto
Everybody has invaded Poland at one time or another.

@Kitḫ Everybody has.

Very slow jinx.

It's awkward. Rookie mistake.

Yeah sorry.

2:47 PM
That's a seven-month slow jinx.
A new record. Even for Cerberus.

Sounds delish.

Gee, thanks.

Can it be accomplished with lemon-flavored body oils?

Can something not?

This mtg I am preparing for cannot be accomplished with lemon-flavored body oils.

2:49 PM
Lies.
Jun 9 at 13:45, by Robusto
Try harder.

Mtg?

@RegDwightѬſ道 No.

An apt answer to a concise question.

I am so bad at abbreviations/acronyms/initialisms.

@Cerberus Meeting. I have a meeting that I am supposed to be preparing for.

2:50 PM
Ah.
Send a bottle of limoncello in advance?

I have a piece of paper with bulleted points on it.
I am wearing a turtleneck.

Label it "Kit" and make it say "eat me"?

Now just add some body oils.

Okay, the turtleneck is one step.

2:50 PM
Preferably lemon-flavored.

But my project lead will be there. I don't want him to lick me by accident. Or on purpose.
The other two, maybe. If the lights were dimmer.

Pepperspray?
Angry dogs?

And I weren't married.
And they weren't either.

@Kitḫ Nonsense. I have proof to the opposite.

Oh, that.

2:52 PM
@RegDwightѬſ道 Show me.

Jul 20 at 15:42, by Kit
F*CK! F*CKING project leader! Back later.
Jul 20 at 15:43, by RegDwight
Yes, that is an important task.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Hmm. I see. That is rather compelling.

I don't bother with uncompelling evidence.

I think I would have remembered that though.

It doesn't mean she has to perform the task herself.

2:53 PM
But then again...

> girl toys
From Aedia's quote.

Wait, it's the limoncello talking again.

From Cerberus'ae's quote.

I miss Rhodri.

2:54 PM
Yeah I can be mellifluous when I want to.

I liked him.

Yes, Rhodri.

I love the word mellifluous.

And PSM.
And Kosmo.
And whonot.

I don't remember PSM.

2:55 PM
Psmears.

psmears

He wasn't here often.

OMG.

Oh yes. Psmears.

2:55 PM
Actually he was.
Just not when you were around.

Who?

He talked Arabic with Kosmo.

Hmm I don't remember that (...).

Surprise, surprise!

Cerb doesn't remember things.

2:56 PM
Uhuh.

Also, he is intoxicated.

Nah. Can't be

That's why I added that little silence (...).

His blood is 95% absinthe.

In Dutch, (...) can mean both ellipsis and silence.

2:56 PM
Girl-drink drunk Cerb needs to be looked out for.

What!?

titter

Limoncello is no girl drink!
Have some, if you dare.
It's 30 %.

I had some in Rome earlier this year.
Anyhoo. I gotta run. Keep an eye on the war. We might get a second one any moment.

2:58 PM
Bai!

Laters.

@Cerberus I drink scotch. What's this 30% bullshit?

@Kitḫ Haha, nice.
@RegDwightѬſ道 Bye!
@Kitḫ Hmm so scotch is 40–94.8%...

Oh damn. I guess I didn't test all of the pages I put into production this weekend.
Oops.

It's OK. I'll look the other way.
And dance on three legs.

3:11 PM
I fixed it already. I had just named a page incorrectly.
You are really full of beans today. Did you have fun this weekend then?

Sure.
Always.
Every time anyone says "I fixed it" I think of League of Gentlemen.
Watch the first one first.
This one is nice too, and very much in the spirit of Christmas.

@RegDwightѬſ道 It's my trip to school.

@Cerberus Hmm. Well. I think I completely miss the humor there.

@Kitḫ Really?

@Cerberus Yes, really.

3:24 PM
Hmm...I didn't think British culture and American culture would be farther apart than British and Dutch...
sad face
Or maybe you're not perverted enough.

Maybe fear of wandering gypsies stealing women is non-existent here?
I mean, is he supposed to be a gypsy? Or a voodoo loa or something?

Something weird to channel you fears of gypsies, clowns, and blacks all together.
I think.

I don't really get that one either and many of the sketches don't make me laugh at all. Some of it is properly hilarious though. I like the Dentons, the local shop and the job club best.

@z7sgѪ Yes, those were very funny.

@z7sgѪ You don't get Papa Lazarou? Hmm...then it must be a character thing.
Know this one?

3:30 PM
:D

If you don't like that one, you need to buy a new brain.

Whatever that was, it was amazing.

Good!
Or do you mean the brain surgery?

@Cerberus Speaketh ye to me?

Oh no, I thought we'd thrown away those old brains already...

3:43 PM
@Cerberus Nary a sonder, lad.
I think I made up one of those words.

Maybe you mean asonder?

@Cerberus Ayenuh. It's just fun to say.

Quoi?

sonde is a word
I can't see how that's relevant right now though.

3:57 PM
Do any of you think that all single-word-request answers should be CW?

I...don't know.
I dislike them in general.

@Cerberus CWs or s-w-rs?
