5:00 PM
Yeah
The other way I tried was:
Product[(#1+k)/k,{k,2,#1}]&

@undergroundmonorail Hahaha, took me a while.

:/

@quartata You should totally drop that and wait until @ThomasKwa is asleep. :D

@Dennis ...

Well said.
Not much of a doc, but at least the atoms have an explanation now.

5:06 PM
@undergroundmonorail Wait, what did I miss?

underground's language is called pb.

XD

Looks legit.

@quartata I was going to say, "you should totally drop that and wait until @Dennis is asleep", but I don't think Dennis sleeps.

5:14 PM
@Dennis sleeps a lot more since he got Legendary. ;)

@Dennis The addiction has worn off I see

Just curious, how close are you to silver?

Well, what if I told you there are secret "quantum" badges
One is "Mythical" which is mortarboard 1000 times

i was going to say "no but he" and then the command to sleep in cjam or jelly, but i did a quick look and i didn't see a sleep function in either language

So get cracking

5:15 PM
@ThomasKwa Pretty far away. I need 53 more upvotes.

@undergroundmonorail the sleep function in CJam is 30e!
2

Hahaha.

@Dennis looks really nice so far

@quintopia i'm sure he appreciates the compliment but how do you know what he looks like

@MartinBüttner Took me a second to get that

5:18 PM
@quintopia Thanks! What does?
(stupid slow internet)

@Dennis I'm assuming he means Jelly

@undergroundmonorail doesn't he look exactly like the menace????

Pretty close, actually.

Yeah I meant Jelly. So many primes builtins!

@quintopia Just enough, I think.

5:21 PM
@ThomasKwa ÆDL saves a byte.

Actually, wait
ÆFL=2 for detecting semiprimes
This is 4 bytes.
Needs to be fixed.
We need more prime builtins.

I count 5 bytes, actually.

@Dennis ?
No.

so do I

Oh, I thought ÆF was one byte with your encoding
That's even worse.
5 bytes!
fix it pls @Dennis

5:24 PM
How often do you need a semi-primality test? o_O

every Wednesday

like every second

@Dennis ALWAYS

well that escalated quickly!

5 BYTES IS 3 TOO MANY

5:25 PM
Also, ÆFL=2 doesn't actually work...

@Dennis Oh.
What did I do wrong

@Dennis I actually realized that before I saw your message.

@quartata ÆF computes prime-exponent pairs, so the length will be the same for 2, 4, 8, 16, ...

You could check that the list of exponents is 2 long and its product is 1

@Dennis Oh..

5:30 PM
@quintopia The factors of a semiprime do not have to be distinct.

I thought it would give something like [2,2,2,3]

Either check the number of divisors or just multiply add the exponents.

Is there anything that does give something like that?

@quartata Sure. You're looking for Æf.

Ah.
ÆfL=2 works then?
Lemme try it.

5:31 PM
Well checking the product of exponents is 1 would be good for spotting square-free numbers at least

Yep, it does work.
Woot!

@quintopia Er, I meant add.

Wait, why does that return True?
fixes bug

@Dennis Meh.
I don't think we have a semi-prime test challenge

5:34 PM
@quartata you should totally post Catalan now, while Dennis is pushing the fix.

ಠ_ಠ

@ThomasKwa OK!

@undergroundmonorail What's a sleep function? I need it. Exam tomorrow

@Dennis If you reference the issue number in a commit message you can automatically close open issues. (I'm thinking specifically of the "no docs" issue on GitHub.)

Our GM had this to say about tomorrow starts typing up long message

5:35 PM
@AlexA. Well, there's a list of built-ins now. I wouldn't call that docs...

Better than no docs. :P

Part 1
practice campaign?
Anxiety and unsettling feeling creeps into everyone in the party.
Everyone, including the non humans are holed up in their own cave, either glaring at their tomes, or convening streams of knowledge from the outside world;
hoping it would somehow be carved into whatever's left of their sane mind.
Our heroes are starting to feel the flow of time gradually choking up on them
less than 17 hours, until their final exam
tl;dr = screw [Intro to Computer Networks] and [Numeric Methods]
Part 2
intelligence test, roll 3d6
pass the exam if you get more than 25

AND DENNIS WINS

Damn, he must have had it in his copy-paste.

He did.

I had a +1 readied in my copy-paste

5:41 PM
Oh daaaaaamn son, Dennis just referred to himself in the third person.

gg = golly gee?

18 seconds! New world record for fastest time to win a code-golf challenge!

@quartata you can leave off the @#&

@MartinBüttner Wait, really?

5:41 PM
Wait, what is the question again?
I should probably read it

I was refreshing main, and because I was on my phone I didn't notice that you posted the link here.

@quartata yes.
it's an expression that evaluates to a function which solves the problem.

@Sherlock9 i didn't do so hot

Oh, I see.
Is there a way to golf down the non-builtin version?
I'm not that good at Mathematica

@Dennis Does Jelly have docs?

@ETHproductions Barely

A brief overview of the built-ins, but not enough to learn it without some previous experience with J and/or APL.

@NewMainPosts Wow. Just wow.

5:45 PM
@quartata Hella decimal zeros okay?

@AlexA. Ye

Damn, Python is seriously outclassed in this one
@undergroundmonorail GGWP

@quartata only by removing the 1 from #1, I think.

@MartinBüttner Already done
Hm..
Meh, good enough.

Only Mathematica can have a single-step built-in, yet lose to 4 languages and counting...

5:47 PM
@quartata Binomial[2#,#]/(#+1)& is still shorter

@MartinBüttner Wait, really?
Ugh.

finally got to use my permutations trick to compute binomial coefficients in CJam :)

@Sherlock9 I've never seen Limitless but I'm pretty sure this is the plot of Limitless

@AlexA. functions are OK

@quartata That was not clear in the post; it said read from STDIN, write to STDOUT.

5:51 PM
> full program or function
> STDIN acceptable alternatives

Okay

@quartata the Input/Output sections sound a lot more restrictive

^

(just because you allow functions, doesn't mean you allow them to take input via their arguments)

Sorry, that was me crashing my browser out of stupidity :P

5:57 PM
And @quartata you said returning a float instead of an int is okay?

@Sparr @overactor @PhiNotPi CodeBots4 is up

Q: Code Bots 4: Functional Programming

Nathan Merrillsheesh, is this really the 4th? For all you oldcomers, the core challenge is the same, but we are using Java instead of a custom language. Here are the past three CodeBot challenges, in case you are interested. The goal of CodeBots is to make your bot as viral as possible. Each bot carries a ...

The weather is nice today.

@NewMainPosts How nice of you to stop foolishly letting others ninja you...

@NewMainPosts It is. Maybe a tad hot.

6:02 PM
lol, I like the edit

@Dennis Nah. It's a little chilly and it looks like it's going to rain.

Is New Main Posts just a chat-bot with its own account?

I'd be even better if a major snowstorm hit somewhere today

@ETHproductions It's a feed bot.
We must feed it nuts and bolts and oil and sacrifice a goat every Thursday.

@AlexA. Is that something only a room owner or mod can set up?

6:03 PM
Oui

OK, I'll make sure to stay off tomorrow

Uh why?

@AlexA. It's 35 degrees here.

@AlexA. I thought the goat requirement got changed to a sheep

@NathanMerrill That's New Sandboxed Posts that accepts sheep.
@Dennis 10 here.
(Celsius)
(I never have to spell Celsius because who uses it I mean really)

@AlexA. Em, everybody?

Nah

10 °C
Problem solved.

I didn't want to try to remember how to make the degrees symbol

Option + Shift + Semicolon

Ú
Nope

6:08 PM
Dammit.
Option + Shift + 8.

@Dennis Hm?

(from Japanese) Mary Janes intro series
translate: 「メリージェーン ヴォーカル」篇
(from Japanese) "Mary Janes vocal":
translate: 「可愛いベイビー」篇
(from Japanese) "Pretty little baby":
Is indeed legit.

6:31 PM
Ugh.
I tried to make a custom engine loader in Vitsy. This was a mistake.
I done goofed.

@MartinBüttner Fair enough, fixing.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ You remember me mentioning Catalan numbers? ;)

I was really hoping that Catalan numbers were somehow related to Catalan's constant but it appears not. (Julia has a builtin for Catalan's constant.)

@FlagAsSpam oh shit you have a built-in don't you
not again

@quartata I don't.

6:39 PM
@FlagAsSpam Oh, good.

I do have access to JS, though... ;)

I think @feersum mentioned that he could make a solution in Snails
I hope he does that

Ugh.
Homework.
Focus, Spam!

I wouldn't say "natural number as input" in the post, @quartata. Some folks (myself included) learned that the natural numbers are the set of strictly positive integers.

Fun fact about sd cards: You know the switch that makes it read only? That's just a piece of plastic. There's a button inside the sd cart slot that is held down if the switch is in the correct position. My switch broke off entirely making it read only all the time, but I fixed it by taping over the groove :D

6:43 PM
@AlexA. In proofs we always had to write ℕ ∪ {0} when 0 was included along with the naturals.

the only way i can remember which symbol is which is that ∪ is a smile because everyone is included
3

@quartata Maybe
You can't remember U for Union?

the only way i remember what union means is that u looks like ∪ which is a smile because everyone is included

@undergroundmonorail I'd find the opposite convention more intuitive. A high bar for the set that has more things, and a low bar for few. Same with ^/v for and/or.

If you set a high bar, less elements will qualify.

6:46 PM
"The opposite convention"? Clearly @xnor prefers to frown.

i think of it like inviting the numbers to a party and the more is the merrier

No VIP exclusive parties?

strictly speaking that's not how that saying works
@AlexA. no everyone should be friends and that's why ∪ is a smile

@undergroundmonorail wat

someone tried to haggle on amazon

My favorite synonym for "haggle" is "dicker."
Because my sense of humor is often on par with that of middle schoolers.

@AlexA. Who does like dance music?

6:53 PM
Hm, yeah. Probably dancers. Or DJs, or whomever makes dance music.

my laptop battery doesn't work so if the power cord comes unplugged the whole system turns off immediately

Oy, can someone who isn't using Safari run the snippet here and tell me if it works? Safari doesn't run 90% of stack snippets and it drives me bananas.

i'm moving around my room super carefully because i don't want to interrupt the big file transfer i'm doing rn :P

@undergroundmonorail Brutal.

@AlexA. Looks good. Upgrade your browser.

6:56 PM
@Dennis Thank you very much for testing it for me. :) Yes, I've been considering switching for quite a while but I keep forgetting to actually do it.

Switch now!
(do it do it do it do it)

Do you guys mind if I use my chatbot here? The bot room is kinda lonely.
I won't spam the room (unless you want me to ;)

Mods hate bots...

@ETHproductions There are multiple rooms where chat bots are acceptable, for example the chat sandbox and beep boop maggot.
Muy importante! strawpoll.me/6221901

Ah, OK

6:58 PM

@AlexA. Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to start a holy war over whether natural numbers start at 0
Changing

Hmm, Seriously ties with Dyalog APL on Catalan. Will beat it once implicit input is implemented...

@AlexA. I voted for Firefox, but I'm not running a Mac

what was that speed reading thingy called?

So maybe that should invalidate my vote
