Q: Alt Gr key gives menu focus when I don't expect it to

Simon ForsbergSeveral keyboards have a Alt Gr key. On my Swedish keyboard layout, to enter the [ character I have to press Alt Gr + 8 (or Ctrl + Alt + 8). If I were to input this character twice in a JavaFX TextField, where the application also has a MenuBar, the menu bar keeps the focus instead of the text f...

hey
> Hi Frank,

Thanks for expressing interest in this -- you're right, such events don't trigger webhooks currently and I agree it would be useful. I'll pass your suggestion to the team to consider, but we don't discuss product plans or timelines publicly so I can't make any promises about when this might be available.

If there's anything else you'd like to see improved -- let us know.

Cheers,
Ivan
FYI @SimonForsberg ^^
Eh right, maybe I should add that this is about milestone events in the webhook
@SimonForsberg Fix seems to be targeted for JDK 9, I haven't checked all details, but it sounds eerily familiar

@skiwi "such events" as in what? What webhooks?
@skiwi I can input the characters though, it's just that the wrong component has focus afterwards.
also, I'm not using SwingNodes

1:03 PM
Huh?
I already have Brainduck on my PC, what
> C:\Users\Frank\Dropbox\IntelliJProjects\Brainduck>git status
On branch develop
Your branch is behind 'origin/develop' by 98 commits, and can be fast-forwarded.
(use "git pull" to update your local branch)

nothing to commit, working directory clean

@skiwi Everyone should have Brainduck on their PC.

Okay
Ctrl+Alt+] gives », and in the process highlights the File topmenu
Typing Ctrl+Alt by itself toggles focus on the File topmenu
But Ctrl+Alt+] only focuses and then after it's done unfocuses it again
With Windows 8.1 I actually have no clue to see on what language setting my keyboard is

@skiwi Where is that ] button located on your keyboard?
that thing about highlighting the menu I also have noticed, I think that's caused by the same thing as my SO question.

@SimonForsberg Eh, qwertyuiop[]\ is my top qwerty row

Okay, looks like an English layout.
iop[]

1:15 PM
@SimonForsberg Fairly sure it's by the same thing, some part of the application processes individual key events, and the other processes Unicode characters
All I know is that over here we can switch between Dutch and US Int layouts

Hmm... Unicode characters_ How did they get there_

Bigger question is: Why is the menubar listening to events that are being procesed in a TextArea?

That I am also wondering about.
In one way, I want the keyboard shortcuts, such as Ctrl + S be available
and pressing Alt only should give the menu focus
but having the menu focus while entering characters is just ridiculous

@SimonForsberg I'm nto sure if you do if you are coding... Hmm?
Well, I have IntelliJ here right in front of me, let's try :D

@skiwi well, for me the keyboard shortcuts are working just as they should when I'm coding in Brainduck

1:19 PM
wat
Ctrl+Alt+] cycles through my open projects
Doesn't produce any output
Have you tried typing your keycombo in IntelliJ yet?

[Zomis/NeuralOne] Ping: Design for failure.

@skiwi for me the [ character is "AltGr + 8", so when I press that in IntelliJ it just writes a [ character.

github.com/Zomis/Brainduck/milestones should the 0.4 milestone still be open?

where you have [ on the keyboard I have 'å'
@skiwi nope. just closed it. should probably do a real official release as well, but that I will do another time

@SimonForsberg Hmmm I think we might be getting somewhere (I hope), seems like whether you want to process a command as an Unicode character or as an "essential character" depends on the language setting

1:23 PM
@Duga that is sooooo bloody true in this case.

Though I'm not sure if that even makes sense, this confuses me, should leave it up to the library implementators ^^

[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis created branch master
[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit 094ab8f9 to master: Add gradle files and gitignore
[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit 1852202a to master: Add NeuralNetwork model classes
[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit 0bfb7157 to master: Add non-working BackPropagation algorithm, written from psuedo-code

Any clue how I can open the (File) menu [with underlined F] in IntelliJ using keyboard only? ^^

@skiwi At first I thought the problem was with the RichtextFX component I was using, but then I noticed that the same thing happened with ordinary JavaFX components.
@skiwi Hold down Alt and press F

Right..
So in IntelliJ the menubar gets focus and the textarea loses focus
In Brainduck it doesn't work when you are inside the CodeArea
Outside of the CodeArea (also the output area) it does work, but focus is not lost, and a beep is heard in the background

1:28 PM
[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit 5cb16b72 to master: Correct mainClassName in build.gradle
[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit b5ad7bb1 to master: Fix description in build.gradle, add newline at end

1:56 PM
@SimonForsberg You should really do that :)
I'm also new to all that stuff, but look at github.com/skiwi2/OLog/tags and github.com/skiwi2/OLog/releases

@skiwi when exactly?
@skiwi what doesn't work?
@skiwi new? You were the one that setup the Cardshifter auto-release thing from travis a year ago...

@SimonForsberg As soon as you press the F in Alt+F
@SimonForsberg Opening up the menubar with Alt+F
@SimonForsberg Right from a programmatical point of view, but I've never used this with how to handle big projects
My changelogs probably don't make much sense in hindsight :)

@skiwi "never used this with how to handle big projects"? Cardshifter doesn't count?

2:11 PM
@SimonForsberg Not for my personally, didn't do much project management on Cardshifter imo
Gonna be afk for a while though

@SimonForsberg What's that? A list of lists of doubles?

[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit b80f32a6 to master: Remake NeuralNetwork class model to work for BackPropagation, although it does not work yet
[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit 45fd3788 to master: Add a DummyConnection link, made run method work, BackPropagation also seem to work now

@skiwi It's a neural network that seems to have learned the boolean AND and OR functions.

@Duga that commit message made me lol :P
@SimonForsberg Oooh, nice!

@Duga My commits are way too big but at least this one seems to work

4:22 PM
Simply an observation: It seems like working with Java 6 every day has made your Groovy code more Java-like and less groovy

oh bloody unordered sets...
@skiwi That's what Code Reviews are for, isn't it?
Although in this case I am more concerned about the general design than the smaller details

@SimonForsberg Hint hint I should post reviews once in a while? ;)

In this case, I don't care so much about using an old-style sum += ... loop to compute the sums instead of using values.sum() or something
[0.0, 0.0] --> [0.003191535796324729, 0.40951400599475807]

Not quite sure why I'm not getting the same values all the time...
Oh, nevermind. I used a HashSet before but now I am using a LinkedHashSet.
In fact, why is it even a Set? That one makes more sense as a List actually...

This is just backpropagation neuron learning right?

Yup
Not so sure I would call it "just XYZ" though... for me this is a very big step forward.

4:28 PM
Well, it's just one of the simplest networks, not that they are simple though
I made this github.com/skiwi2/HopfieldNeuralNetwork a while ago, but doesn't look designed very well

[Zomis/NeuralOne] Zomis pushed commit 71d058da to master: Change example data to a List for more reproducible data

@skiwi my point exactly. Not really simple at all.
@skiwi Does it work properly?

@SimonForsberg Yes, that it does :)
I'm curious how you map the and/or functions to network input and output though

@skiwi zeros and ones.

5:19 PM
trying to make a basketball net ended up with some pretty gnarly code:
Body leftChainBody = this.createChainSection(new Vector2(xPos, yPos - this.RIM_SIZE * 4), new Vector2(chainWidth, chainHeight));
this.revoluteJoint(this.leftSideRim, leftChainBody, new Vector2(0, -this.RIM_SIZE / 2), new Vector2(0, this.RIM_SIZE * 4));
Body rightChainBody = this.createChainSection(new Vector2(xPos + this.RIM_SIZE * 2 + ballWidth, yPos - this.RIM_SIZE * 4), new Vector2(chainWidth, chainHeight));
this.revoluteJoint(this.rightSideRim, rightChainBody, new Vector2(0, -this.RIM_SIZE / 2), new Vector2(0, this.RIM_SIZE * 4));

@bazola What's your goal though? Create the game, or learning how to build one using a bare engine? I could see many optimizations with already defined models, etc. or maybe even using a game engine like Unity

well, my goal is usually to create the game. box2d is handing the physics model. do you mean performance optimizations, or optimizing the model/simulation?

Well, having that code to create a basketball net isn't exactly maintainable

Hey there

hey @Phrancis

We're going to start having artwork soon, I reckon
(like, stuff that we didn't just borrow from the internet)

Do you mean that `this.code` is returned as empty, or that the full text of `'GroovyCommand: ' + this.code` is returned as empty?

Hey @bazola! How're you?

doing alright, you?

Doing okay, thanks.
