1:00 AM
@AlexA. Windows 2000 was the last version of Windows I've ever used so I wouldn't really know

@AlexA. :P

@Calvin'sHobbies Brute force? Unavoidable?!? NEVER!!!

a fog rolls in; bringing with it, a mysterious figure

@quartata I use Windows 7 at work. 2000 was garbage.

(But yeah, it'd be hard to do better.)

1:00 AM
@AlexA. Yes, but it was <s>good</s> terrible garbage

2.6k messages yesterday, 200 today.
wat

Corrected

@anOKsquirrel UTC time.

I was just kidding

@AlexA. uses windows 8, feels no regrets

1:00 AM
That's it. I'm going to pirate VB8. Microsoft had it coming.

@Calvin'sHobbies Do the non-space squares have to be a single connected figure?

@anOKsquirrel WAIT 2.6K?

0:00 UTC is 7 pm EST.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Windows 8 is bad and you should feel bad.
2

@El'endiaStarman hm. thanks

1:01 AM
@trichoplax No. There could be many loops

@AlexA. And yet, somehow, I am still a productive coder

@AlexA. also used Windows 8
2

Oh, I thought you meant you had posted 2.6k messages yesterday
You meant the room

lol yeah.

@Calvin'sHobbies Now that I've got a fully specified question, I find I have no answer for you. I'm wondering if allowing arbitrarily many unconnected loops makes brute force more likely to be the only solution

1:05 AM
AHH BLASPHEME

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Wait, aren't you the guy that decried jQuery?

@El'endiaStarman ... yes.

$("span.times") <- what's this then?

a=Array.from(document.querySelectorAll("span.times"));a.forEach(x=>x.innerHTML=‌+x.innerHTML+1e4)
@El'endiaStarman blasphemy.

1:07 AM
roflgolfer

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Ye hypocrite.
At least I OWN up to the blasphemy!

@El'endiaStarman YOU HAVE NO PROOF! </pharisee>
* HTML needs a <jesus> tag XD

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ What would that even do? :P

[shrugs]
anyway
clears throat

THE PROOF IS THERE BEFORE YOUR EYES!!!

I call photoshop.

Ha, no. I can't photoshop.

@Calvin'sHobbies I once wrote some code using those tiles in an attempt to create an alternative to identicon but using a weave pattern instead of triangles. I didn't need to enumerate them all though - just trace through applying the same colour to connected loops. Could you ask a question to see if anyone can come up with anything better than brute force? Or is asking a question to help ask another question overkill?

1:11 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yes you are.

The proof is there XD

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ No edit icon. :P

Eh, go ahead.

@trichoplax I think the question I'll do won't be about filling a grid, just drawing a single path.

I have a bandicam going on :P

@ThomasKwa squints....what is that?

A hand

1:18 AM
@Calvin'sHobbies So do you need the full enumeration or just to know how many ways a single path can exist? Will it be a path from one point to another or a closed loop? Or is that telling too much...?

With index finger pointed downwards @El'endiaStarman

@ThomasKwa Oh, thanks! I could definitely use a hand!

Is there a simpler term for "non self intersecting"?
And where do the hyphens go?

Not off the top of my head.
I'd write it as "non-self-intersecting".

@Calvin'sHobbies I thought simple could be used to mean that
I assume this is in the context of polygons

No. Random walks

Oh.
I don't think there is a better term for that no

1:54 AM
Self-avoiding?

I sense a new challenge...
@El'endiaStarman That is a specific walk
Oh wait
I think that works, yeah

@Rainbolt following your question about sticky notes, this is probably more fun than relevant but might give you some ideas:

I too lazy to pull reguest

@Calvin'sHobbies Simple, eg simple polygon?

@quartata link me?

@Sp3000 "Simple random walk" meaning is not clear

1:59 AM

@Calvin'sHobbies I can think of some terms that sound cool but wouldn't communicate until you defined them: "trailblazing," for instance.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Done

I recommend combining hyphenation with parentheses for avoidance of all ambiguity:
`non-(self-intersecting)`

2:01 AM
Apparently simple random walks are a thing, but refer to lattice random walks

Q: Monday Mini-Golf #7: Simplify ingredient measurements

ETHproductionsMonday Mini-Golf: A series of short code-golf challenges, posted (hopefully!) every Monday. Sorry it's late; I realized 90% of the way through writing out a different idea that it was a duplicate. My family is rather large, so we eat a lot of food. We usually need to double, triple, or even quad...

@NewMainPosts Damn that's a good challenge idea
I wish I had thought of it.

I swear we've had something like this before... and no I'm not thinking of World Big Dosa

I think it's really similar to World Big Dosa

You're thinking of World Big Dosa.

2:14 AM
Because that was part of WBD, measurement simplification.
In retrospect that challenge had too many pieces to it.

a >= 1 && b >= 2 && c >= 3 will give BS

@AlexA. Should be equivalent to (a >= 1) && (b >= 2) && (c >= 3), right?

@DLosc No

@DLosc Should
In Julia it is

2:24 AM
Ah, but it's not in JS. Is that what you were saying?

According to that link, it is equivalent to what @DLosc said.

Not even JS could be that terrible.

Haha

Q: Format a Drop Capital

intrepidcoderIntroduction Write a program or function that adds a drop capital to a paragraph. The program will input the text to format, the column width, and the number of lines to drop the capital. The drop capitals look like this: Lines: 2 3 4 Drop capital: A| A.| A..| ...

This was actually one of the easier long Minkolang answers to write. :P
@El'endiaStarman WAIT A MINUTE! It's "undefined" backwards! That's so weird!

FINALLY MY TAG BADGE UPDATED
Now I have the shiny code-golf badge

Nice! Congrats.
I'm about 180 upvotes away from a gold code golf badge.

3:02 AM
@quartata That was awesome.

@quartata o u no mous?

I need a little more than three times my current score to get a silver badge.
(I do also need more answers but really, if I get to triple the rep, I'd have posted about triple the answers.)

Oh hey, it's 7pm and I forgot to eat dinner. Oops.

I sometimes have that problem too.
> Hmm. My head hurts a little. Oh, I need to eat.

I instantly became a bowl of pasta but I can't manage to become a goat

3:11 AM
They make all of the gold badges a real pain in the neck as well.

@El'endiaStarman That looks... hm...

Well, they're supposed to be hard to get...

@El'endiaStarman True

@Vɪʜᴀɴ Caching.

You get the power to close questions with one vote. And lose the power not to close them with one vote, so it's actually annoying to have, most of the time.

3:13 AM
I was looking for a more relevant Irregular Webcomic! page and I found this.

@Vɪʜᴀɴ wat

@Sp3000 Overly long?

... yeah
Longer than I expected, anyway

Hmm. Yeah, if I managed to keep everything on the stack, I could probably take off like 20 bytes or so.

Why does it seem like none of the golfing language online interpreters include a byte count on the page?

3:19 AM
Mine does!

Cos bytes are harder to count than chars

Also, Gol><> does, I think.

@Sp3000 That's a better reason to have them ;)

(Mine's a char count cos I dunno how)

I just copied the code that https://mothereff.in/byte-counter uses.

3:20 AM
Goodbye guys.

Farewell.

On a side note, trying out biplex makes me realise I still need better loops - the move down thing gets pretty annoying in some situations :/

Getting a better feel for why my solution was so long, eh? :P

Not really - this is a different matter :P

3:37 AM
Quick question: Would a complex number datatype be a good idea in a golfing language?

Totally depends

Would you every use a feature like that?

You probably won't use them often, but when it helps, it helps a lot.

^^ that, so it entirely depends

Ok so put it further down on the to-do list, but keep it on the list, got-it. Thanks!

3:47 AM
@GamrCorps lol that was my first priority
function Cell(real,imag){
	this.real    = real || 0;
	this.imag    = imag || 0;
	this.base    = base || 10;
	this.written = !!(real||imag);
}

good night everyone

G'night!

Good night :D

So what awesome powers do the bronze code-golf badge give me
I saw that Peter's gold code-golf badge lets him block the sun and instantly close questions at will
As well as teleport no error once a day
Can I at least fireball at will with this?

3:58 AM
It imparts the power to answer more golfs on the way to silver and gold.

@Geobits ..
Telekinesis?

No, sorry. Just the thing about golfing more.

sigh
What does silver get me?

A gold tag badge is the only badge that gives you any powers
