Currently at gaming meta there are discussions about Do “mod-development” questions belong here? and Do “map-editor” questions belong here?. There was also a suggestion to send these questions to gamedev.
Should these questions be accepted here? Is modifying an existing game part of game develop...
It's been mentioned in chat a few times that the logo for our site is... potentially ambiguous at best. The Favicon being a heart has caused a stir -- apparently some people think that, because of the Favicon and the logo, we're some sort of dating site.
Clearly, we're not.
However, I do think ...
Are you really trying to imply that my opinion regarding part of a modern website design is silly and out of place is invalid because the website in question is about games which are generally not unrealistic??
I'm new to World of Warcraft and I'm only really interested in playing when certain friends are online. Is it possible to view the status of friends in your friends list without launching WoW and fully entering the game?
So I'm playing Castaway, and I eventually earn some quest items, such as the "Beetle Shield" and the "Fire Scimitar". Unfortunately, in this game, there's no way to view the stats of an item, other than in the shop. How do I know how these items compare with the others in the shop?
Hi All!
I was planning to try out Dragon age origins, (XBOX360) but I am wondering if I should buy it new or used. My question is what will I lose if I buy the used version of Dragon age?
Mass effect 2 has the Cerberus network which wont work if you have a used one, you have to buy it at the ma...
@tzenes I tried to explain this to you, twice. I was offended because your first logical conclusion in this debacle is "Grace is abusing her station and power for nothing but his own personal gain". This is seeping from your first comment. You emphasized "Just because you disagree" 3 times.
It offended me because after 4 months, I had figured you would understand me a lot better than to think I would deign to go down such a method, or at least that it wouldn't be your very first conclusion. It offended me because in this whole debacle, I have been doing everything I can to do this as a normal user, and to dissociate my own disagreement and rely purely on logical reasoning.
But I tire of this argument, and in fact this whole community is tired of it. The worst case scenario, which I had been hoping to avoid for the longest time, is that we have successfully forced away users not because of our policies, but because of the stupid fighting over the policies.

So I'm not going to argue any more with you about this subject in this chat, or in that discussion. I will send you one last message, not to argue my position any more, but to illustrate why I did what I did. I can hope that you understand my stance, but I can settle if you still disagree. It is not my intention to win this by numbers, by force, by opinion. I would have it that my last statement, as my actions began, came from logical reasoning.
Like at first I was thinking "That'd be a cool thing to put on a gravestone." Then I realized, what if you died of a heart attack? That wouldn't be from logical reasoning. What deaths do come from logical reasoning? ...oh.
I just hope that we can come to a solution that keeps all of our core members. I don't like new people getting driven away, but I like it even less that people who clearly support the site are considering leaving over this issue.
I'm looking for something to take a link like
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_(object-oriented_design)
And make it into

so that it can be pasted into a comment automatically. Even better would be if said extension could do the...
When ever someone gets a final kill i always see their player card and and emblem on the kill cam but when i make a final kill it only shows the gun and not my player card... How do i get it back??
@Mana Technically, it'd work if my last statement was something like "I am entering cardiac arrest, which is very likely to cause my demise". That'd be a pretty logical conclusion if I was starting to suffer from a fatal heart attack.
I've just cleared Merry Gear Solid with the Big Beard ranking - the game is only about 15 minutes long, so it wasn't too hard.
I used the digital camera 6 times and the gun none. I'm wondering if it's possible to complete the game with the Big Beard ranking with less than 6 camera shots (or alt...

I've noticed different leaders in Civilization V have different "personalities" - i.e. different ways of gameplay and different ways of conducting diplomacy. For example, Russia and Mongolia are very fond of expanding, while Gandhi emphasizes culture and happiness; the English build a lot of nava...
Anyone know where I can get some useable audio clips from Red Alert aside from recording them directly from the game?
(I'd like to have a "construction complete" quote play after a visual studio build completes.)
While playing Prototype yesterday, I completed the last "consume scientists" side-mission, which revealed Karen Parker's location on the map for me to go and exact my revenge.
After entering the building where she was hiding and being treated to a cutscene which hints that Alex kills her, I was ...

So our towns basicly in real chaos. 12 people have died, 3 people have started selfish play, upgrading to hovels and shacks, having defensive items hoarded up in their house.

Here Starcraft2: how to beat medium AI in 5 minutes? I asked how to beet AI in 5 minutes on medium level.

@Ivo I guess I had this coming by leaving my question on Meta so vague. My question seems to have re-fueled this game recs debate. Let me clarify: I don't care about game rec's and I never have. I haven't been here very long (barely over a month) but I came here because I love video games and I love to help people.
@badp Besides the obvious? I feel I ended up joining a community where people can't even agree to disagree. Where a high rep user out-weighs a low rep user. I don't give a damn about my reputation points or the points of others, I just wanted to join a community where I could learn and teach about my favorite pass-time.
If you'd rather have us not discuss this kind of topic in the future, I can at least try and migrate it on SE Tavern where it won't bump the chat ad at the very least.
@JeffAtwood Yeah, it was rather unfortunate too that he based his entire view of Gaming over what I feel was more or less an isolated incident on its Meta. But, only so much you can do to make people try and reconsider anyway.
(In short we made a sort-of poll for game recs and one bad option was posted. By the time Grace convinced the poster to withdraw it, the option got a huge following. Things then went downhill.)
I did it by considering that posting the Meta question as the initial inquiry of interest to deleting the account and the discussion in chat, and when today he finally edited his account to say "please delete me", I figured that he had dwelled enough on the subject.
It is not 24 hours from when the email was sent, but it was 24 hours to "sleep on it". However, I will keep in mind the proper protocol for the future. I'm sorry for stepping out of line, @Jeff
@badp Yeah, I get what you're saying. But Gaming seems to be motoring on quite peacefully aside from that, so it still feels like a sweeping generalization. Plus, if there's a 100% conflict free area of the interwebs, I haven't seen it.
I've noticed a small square button hiding in the top right corner of my Die2Nite screen. It simply bears a red X and the ominous intonation, "EXIT"
I fear greatly what would transpire if ever I clicked upon it.
What severe fate awaits all ye who depress the button? (What does it do.
I know that you can trade Pokemon between games of the same generation (Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire) and even trade between 1st gen and 2nd gen. However, I haven't been able to find a way to trade Pokemon so that I can play with my 1st generation Pokemon in HeartGold, for instance. If it is possib...
"Minecraft! It's like second life, but with blocks!"
A more appropriate video would've been some clueless roaming, some hot trademark tree punching action, watching sunset, looking at those weird creatures moving in the dark, then a game over screen out of nowhere.
@bwarner the situation is still possible - you can cancel the "must choose policy on same turn" when creating a new game, unless I'm mistaken.
@bwarner and if you ask about a similar situation in general, I think that you can just write "this is no longer possible" as either a comment or an edit to the question.
I occasionally do the same thing too, but I try to at least update the question with more information, or to be more specific, or to list things I've tried in the meantime.
Some video games incorporate complex stories and character development. Are questions about characters, worlds, stories, and fandom, that do not involve actual game play on topic?
I'm look, specifically, at this proposal (Myst Lore) and wondering if those types of questions would be welcomed here.
@sjohnston Agreed, if there is actually enough support to create a Myst lore site from existing, it might as well exist. Practically though... Myst lore? Seriously? There's no way that's even going to reach the commitment phase. Just fold it into Gaming.
So I was playing Starfox 64 the other day, and I noticed something disturbing. No matter what course of action you take, if this blue bird guy gets shot too much in the first level, he lets me know that something has happened to his G-Diffuser, and he has to break off.
What does this so-called ...
@sjohnston question is, how many of the questions deemed "on-topic" there are on-topic for us? If it's close to 100%, there seems to be little reason for a separate site
@Oak I am still of the opinion that in some cases, a subtopic with a cohesive community of significant size ought to have its own site, even if it would be on-topic here. Many of the hardcore myst people (the ones who are laboring away on their "personal Ages" in the hopes that cyan might someday release a tool that allows them to be built) are not gamers and will have no draw to this site about all things gaming.
Well, I guess I would argue that the Linux, Unix, Ubuntu thing proves that a distinct community is adequate reason for a separate site. And I still think that the broad nature of Board Games is unlikely to attract the hardcore Go audience that is required to answer moderately difficult questions with any level of quality.
but that doesn't mean the SE team shares my opinion :)
@sjohnston I can accept that, as I said I'm not familiar enough with the topic. All I'm saying is that they are (probably) welcome here with open arms, if they want to.
I just believe that in some cases, the broadness of the larger community can prevent the users of the smaller community from joining, whereas they'd actually happily contribute if they had a place to themselves
@Oak Yeah, I see it not so much as us excluding them, but of them excluding themselves because this doesn't feel like the community they're looking for
Proposed Q&A site for existing and future SmugMug users who want to get the most out of their SmugMug accounts, from Basic through Pro users to 3rd party developers working with the SmugMug API.
Right. Do not commit to sites just for "sympathy" if you're not going to actually help make the site work by asking and answering questions, voting on them, etc. Otherwise the site will go into beta but it won't have enough real users, so it won't reach critical mass and it will be closed down af...

In civilazation 3, what governments do each civilization like and dislike?

Hey!

Does anyone have a good strategy? I already know that I should aim for the eyes.
This spot is ideally located both in relation to the heat source in the winter and a cross breeze in the summer. It faces the television at an angle that is neither direct so that it would discourages conversations nor at an angle that would causes a parallax distortion
Now that you guys had your fun editing the Civ 3 question, I posted a link that would have the answer. Someone that wants the rep more can build a nice little table from there and put it in their answer.
