Thankfully, this was resolved in a matter of hours, but it was a big red flag that I need to slow down and not stress myself too much about doing everything right and keeping up with the most active users.

"M.2 for SSDs drives with up to 10 Gb/s data transfer" That board also has the Killer NIC, but also has intel nic. many people had troubles with that particular nic and software/driver. and many smart people just leave it disabled :-) and the intel one works fine
Gig boards were generally more solid than asus, sort of manufacture who had to try harder. both now seem to have pretty much the same build quality. Asus has a larger user base. I have used both boards now of the full sized 97 chipset thing, and stumbled greatly over each when setting up and configuring and overclocking. IMO asuses more customers bitching was slightly better than gigs good original operation without as many updates and direct suppport.
One can be very happy and less money even with the gig, but my next choice would lean to asus , and only after like rev 2 :-) of any real new things they put out.
Any of the software that was put out (other than drivers) and some of thier cute feature phrases should not influence your descision. to say all the software was completely useless would be wrong, but 90% of it was :-)
most of the people on whole threads for the boards, just didnt end up using that junk, and would have been better off not wasting thier time tryin.
JMG mentioned the one thing i would want to research greater when applying a M2 nvme , or ahci sata, or whatever about that stuff. so far all i know is the NVME method is a new idea behind communication and driver stuff to improve the speed Lots over what was a HD based driver communication method.
@JourneymanGeek but the last stuff we went over about M2 was one of them SSD M2 sticks was sold in 2 varities. sooo could be there is a controller on the stick dependancy. at least for some models?

my confusion goes back to this "Samsung SM951 " drive which people listed on the web it came as a NVE type or AHCI type. even had model numbers for both? And i mean they had 3 different sizes in 2 different types 6 total.

So I would guess that there is still PCI-E lane speak going on with either of them, not some old legasy sata mode. but that this important (super duper) NVMe communications via PCI-e lane speak , has not been around as long?
try and find a NVMe (communicating) SSD drive now (after all it has been a few months). and the only ones that pop up with the real capability, and via a search, are the intel, and card slot? Because this new method , and the huge compatability problem it could be for old boards. Using them in OEM builds , where the comatability is known? Some found in Intel NUcs and certian new laptops (leveno for one).

I'm having problems to access my VPN server outside my lan, i disabled pf on my box, i have set up my box as DMZ host, make sure my router firewall is disabled, and i can't connect to my vpn using my public IP from my ISP on port 80 with my android phone and mobile data. What i'm may be missing here?
When i click "connect" the usual text output doesn't happen in my box, so i'm thinking the packets must be dropping somewhere, but i think i checked everything?
Hmm i just read somewhere that some ISP blocks port 80 to prevent people from running servers on their home...i'm going to try a high port just to test
I do not really know, i would just think that from your laptop mobile thing, you could do one of them pingey tracert things , where each of the addresses it hops to are shown, and the one that doesnt respond is also shown, then you know where it stops at. Ahh 1980s network testing, as stuff stops everywhere now :-)
I don't understand. I have a laptop running linux with virtualbox, my laptop and the box have different private ips, we are behind a NAT. My phone is trying to connect to my server using my home public IP using mobile data so from a different ip address. I can ping the public ip address of my phone but i don't know how to open a shell in android

I've just upgraded to Windows 10 Pro on my laptop and now the display refuses to turn off even if I lock the session or after the configured timeout (15 minutes on AC, 3 minutes on battery). It doesn't matter whether the laptop is plugged in.

If i could remember them all windows 7 had about 6 other things that would occur at night, daily or weekly. defrag, memory check, send microsoft update on your progress, analise system capability, defender scan, and malware scan. time sync, registry backup, windows backup if activated. No longer existing, media center background updates, sperate from system updates, guide downloads.
Of course only the cat sees any of this (nocturnal and all) the dog is supposed to sleep right on through it.
People only realise what has been going on for years, when they stumble out of bed, for a midnight snack , and realise the computer is having a Party . That and laptop users who one night slept incredibly close.

@HackToHell you must completly diversify, think not what you have liked to play, because you will just get a basic clone with different textures and a few variations in gameplay. Get outside of your zone, and the variation will be larger.
and always have at least 2 games installed, one that is high action, and one that is Casual gameplay. When it starts getting way late, and your tired, you switch up to the casual game play, and miss sleep for another 48 hours or so :-)
I have a 4K 15 inch screen set with scaling on 200% with the new Windows 10 display settings (not via the old Control Panel). They have not even been able to scale thier own applications with any uniformity or logic. let alone all the other programs that are not made by microsoft and put all in the same OS package together. So i am certannly still scared of all the issues I will have (if ever) going to 4k.
I see stuff like this, even with simple 125% scaling in regular computers as a Serious adressable item for a new OS to have a complete and operational method. They see sending my files off to the cloud as important :-)
Not being a programmer i was thinking they would have all fully scalable interface programming to work with. a kind of floating objects everywhere, that as the scaling occurs everthing magically floats into place . Or trade it up and have a background routine running constant that post draw scales everything the exact same way as a single page. as if scaling a picture of any sort always works. There goes Cleartype.
Some web pages will cope with any sorts of scaling, some web pages just become a bloody useless mess when scaled up. but all of them are basically the same thing as anything else. some Text , some pictures (icons/buttons are still pictures)
when you get right down to it , EveryThing they have to deal with to create and scale an interface is Text and pictures. Helllloooo people , that ability has existed for 20+ years. but there still is no standard method , just "one more standard" created that is supposed to standerdize it.

I have old AC adapters (the linear "wall wart" type, not the newer and more efficient switched-mode type) that are being drawn well beyond their current ratings. As expected, they run very hot, but they never actually overheat and fail. How?

@DragonLord the caps will be fried in them faster. and a person was always able to overload a magnetic linear kind of power supply, fuses and curcuit breakers would have been used to keep that from happening. The voltage will often drop some on overload, and the cleanup might not work as well , making the power more unstable.

@bertieb and therein lies the problem, nobody can even ask real legit questions about 2 of the major 99% spam Q&A things. The spammers have once again taken out any hope of legitimacy. and still I canspend a few minutes trying to figure out if it is another crafty shaft job or a real users, and 99% it is still them.
