Wut.. how did @SimonAndréForsberg get 5 downvotes?!

For the same reason you got 3 so far?
And Jamal has 6 so far.
On the other hand, you can't down-vote in the final round ;-)

Can you do negative score in the primaries?

Technically, yes, but even negative scores are reported as 0.

Ah, okay

Y'all have to write your answers there ^

in progress

OK, just reminding.

2 questions left to answer

5:41 AM
Looking forward to seeing them.

6:07 AM
@Hosch250 Just finished. There are some hard questions there.

@GraceNote I feel that we lost an important part of my question when you dropped it in favour of two lower-scored ones.
> under what circumstances would you use your moderator privilege to close questions, bypassing the five-vote process? Why?
I also believe that protocol was not followed:
> That said, if I have concerns about any questions in this fashion, I will be sure to point this out in comments before the decision making time.

@200_success it seems to me that Rubberduck's question covers that.. no?
congrats on >200 votes BTW

In my opinion, no.

Monking
Just my opinion about the Questionnaire.: If I would mention @Duga I would at least link to its profile page or eplain what @Duga does. For not so frequent users or users who aren't present in the chat @Duga is unknown and they don't know its intent.

7:04 AM
oops
^^ there :)

I know this, but maybe users who read the answers don't know it.

that's the link I'm using in my post

Q: Why are primary voting scores public?

SuperBiasedManI don't see how showing everyone's score publicly helps to select moderators at this point. Surely it just encourages bias in the voters to inflate high scores? Why randomise the order they appear in but then still give them a very clear and obvious ranking that is the first thing a voter will se...

9:09 AM
@Mat'sMug @Donald.McLean maybe you want to add your name at the top of your Questionnaire answers, for convenience of reading :)
it's.. problematic to read answers without yet knowing who they belong to...

9:29 AM
@Hosch250 I am working on the answers. Will post my answers in a few hours.

2 hours later…
11:44 AM
Posted my answers about an hour ago

My two key questions, about "confidential code", and "chat moderation" have all been answered in ways that I feel are partially wrong.... rather - different to how I would do it.

12:26 PM
931 caucus badges.... ;-)
12 sites have more, and each of them has had multiple elections.

So many users I've never even seen before
Who knows, in a couple of years one of them might become a new Code Review moderator!

12:51 PM
HI GRACENOTE!!! ;-)

@Vogel612 edited, thanks!

1:06 PM
@Hosch250 My Wife kept asking me questions about something totally unrelated so I never got to finish them. I will do that now

i think 200_Success is going to win

There are 4 "winners"...
The question is, after Jamal & 200_success, who fill the last two seats?

Janos
Malachi
hopefully Hosch and Ethan dont make it in
oh sorry mats mug def
and simon
janos and malachi 5th and 6th place

Time for me to start reading everyone else's Questionnaire. I have been waiting until I was done with mine...

although either of those 2 would make great mods also
Donald would also do well i think

let's see if I was able to write it all out..... I have never been much of a writer

2:51 PM
Quill needs a haircut :/

3:08 PM
there is so much more I want to add, but then it would get long and boring....lol

somebody doesn't like me. maybe I am just too young still.... :)

oh gosh that's so damn much text in all these questionnaires..

@Vogel612 it's a lot to read. maybe on lunch I will read the rest. I got through 3 of them I think. Janos, Vogel(you) and Mat I think? I might need to read them again...

I've read them all!

I didn't want to read them before I wrote all of mine
I wish you could sort the Primary page by votes

I wonder when @200_success and @Jamal will post their answers
@Phrancis and @Quill are also missing

Having too much fun parsing JSON into HTML with Groovy :)

sounds like the right tool for the wrong job..
JS would do just as well :)

Sure, but Groovy is way more fun than JS!

4:40 PM
We got Jamal to 300+, and 200 is almost there.

5:29 PM
I'm still at the top (with a large gap as well), even with 9 downvotes. Anyway, since most of the others have answered the questions, I can provide mine.

@SimonAndréForsberg there should be a badge for that!

5:56 PM
Looks like that's all of us I think... Maybe?

@Phrancis 2 people are missing still
Jamal and 200_success

I wonder if the votes on the questionnaires will match how people end up voting in the final election.

6:12 PM
Good question. It certainly is a lot of text to read, hopefully votes on the quiz will be based on the answers, rather than the user's "score"

I know STV messes it up, but the primaries are going the way I predicted.

STV?

The way the votes are counted...

Single Transferable Vote, which rock have you been hiding under, @Phrancis?

Oh, that
Been hiding under a pile of HTML tags

6:18 PM
I just bumped you up on the Questionnaire page above my post

6:50 PM
Just waiting for the pro-tem mods to post.

I have read every. single. answer. :)
Now, back to HTML -_-"

7:18 PM
Everybody's posted!

Pro-tems too?
Ah yes I see

Finally we can see how wrong we were!

^ that

Yeah.

I sort of had to "ninja" my first response as I later noticed that it was about confidential material, not just some homework assignment. But it's mostly the same case: if deletion is requested for such cases, have the OP contact SE.

7:23 PM
I was totally off about the confidential material.

I also wonder if @rolfl have issues with the pro-tems answers as well

I didn't even know about the CM's until the other day.

If he does, then it may be with the chat question. Perhaps we were all dead wrong. ;-)

People aren't voting on the answers very well.
It's a lot more material to process, though.

I may be biashed on mine anyway.

7:27 PM
I just saw MartinR come in. Within seconds he was at the bottom of the list of users here, then he left.
How'd he fall to the bottom that fast?

Next few days should promise exciting!

I wouldn't be surprised if nobody's positions changed.

@Hosch250 the leave room button?

@SimonAndréForsberg That just makes them leave, not fall to the bottom of the list.
And, I don't see any of the silent majority running this time.

7:33 PM
The gap between 200 and I is still kinda high, even with more downvotes for me.

@Hosch250 that's true, and a bit sad. I was hoping jonrsharpe, Emily L, Flambino, or someone would run. I think they could make good candidates.
then again, we didn't really try to convince them either...

Several of the not-so-silent minority didn't run too.

It's understandable that some people just don't want to be mods

> (The 2nd Monitor is such a friendly and trouble-free chat room, though!)
umm.... are the last weeks events included there?
@Hosch250 which includes...?

Heslacher, mjolka, Jeroen, skiwi.
Rubberduck and nhgrif dropped out.
rolfl quit.

7:37 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg I think things have settled down.

@Donald.McLean they certainly have, thankfully.
@Hosch250 in what way are they a minority?

I think the word "minority" was misused

8:06 PM
@Quill you mind adding your name at the top?

Monking, all.
I would like to point out the differences in the various answers to the questions... I also want to ensure that people have the right perspectives on things.
The two questions I proposed - sensitive posts, and chat, were answered similar to the way I would have answered by all the current mods (Jamal, 200, Donald), and it shows the difference between hands-on experience and people who are observers. In part, it is why I asked those questions. They are things which happen behind the scenes.
I want to assure all the candidates, that I mostly expected the answers from them, the answers are similar to what I would have answered if I did not have that experience.
6

8:26 PM
I assume that's good news...

That is reassuring indeed

8:39 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg Silent majority - vocal minority.

Sorry, got called away on a phone call ;-)
I was not finished my missive.
The site-wide chat room (the Teacher's Lounge) is a great resource, and the on-the-job learning is key to being successful. Asking questions before you act, helps a lot.
5
Chat moderation on other sites is something I would actually recommend you do not even consider doing until you have a bunch of experience before hand.
4
Even seasoned moderators, even myself, would not consider "moderating" some areas of chat.

@rolfl You have done that though, have you not?

That's actually OK.
@SimonAndréForsberg I have, and it consumed a huge amount of my time, it was only worth it for the learning experience
A "what not to do" lesson.
I dug myself out of that hole, but it was a close call.

@rolfl so you thought you'd throw a little trick question at us noobs eh!

8:46 PM
Watch, and learn from others, before you dive in. You will be happier for it.
The chat moderation answers from the experienced mods are about inline with what I feel comfortable with now, now that I have more than a year's experience.
Chat moves crazy fast, you can't keep up.

@rolfl So, can non-mods read the Teacher's Lounge?

no

OK.

it's a mod only room..
no guarantees though.

Why do we even have these questionnaires if we will all be given "the right" answers in the end?

8:49 PM
Makes sense, just curious if I could lurk.

About the sensitive questions.... just decline the flag with a link to this post (which I edited to make clearer):
159
A: How does deleting work? What can cause a post to be deleted, and what does that actually mean? What are the criteria for deletion?

jjnguyHow can a post be deleted? By a user: You can typically delete your own posts at will; for exceptions, see "When can't I delete my own post?" below. To delete a post, just use the "delete" link below it. Moderators can delete any post instantly. Users with reputation >= 2k (more precisely, the...

don't engage with the person... you just end up feeling sorry for the wretch....
but, the people who lose the reputation are the ones that are the real victims ;-)
If the question really is confidential, the DMCA process is the right one to follow.
Also, the rep losers are the regulars, and you cannot explain to them adequately why their rep is gone, because it is sensitive.

shouldn't the community Elect who they want to moderate and then SE train that person for Moderator duty. some of those questions were about Moderator procedure that is set in stone.... why ask when you have to follow procedure....should we be asked things about when there is something that we need to make a decision that isn't already given to us?

You also then need to get the CM's involved anyway to hard-delete the post.

@rolfl That does not actually cover the sensitive information case, which is different.

@Malachi There's some truth to that.

8:52 PM
I didn't mean to interrupt

@Donald.McLean It is at the bottom.

@Donald.McLean It covers the "what happens if I flag a post to delete it".

the Chat question was good, but everyone should have answered, let BB mods handle it

> What if I posted my employer's copyrighted code, or there is a copyright violation in my question, and for legal reasons it has to be removed?

> Stack Exchange implements a take-down process in accordance with the DMCA. If you are a copyright holder, and someone (an employee?) has posted content which contravenes your copyright, then you can file a copyright take-down and the content will be removed. The process for this is described in section 15 of the terms of service.

> Flagging your question for moderator attention is not the right process to follow.
2

(should I say, it now covers it).

8:54 PM
@Hosch250 What I meant is that posts removed for that reason are removed using a method not describes, and the result is also not described.

It is much easier to point people to an impersonal meta post, than it is to try to discuss it with them in chat.
@Donald.McLean Time to edit that post?

@Hosch250 What I meant is that posts removed for that reason are removed using a method not described, and the result is also not described.

@Donald.McLean It links to the description: stackexchange.com/legal
I guess I'm missing something, though.
Section 15, it says.

@rolfl when I accidentally posted my Email in that picture a while back, was that something that pops had to handle?

@Hosch250 - there are situations where people post their password,e tc. in their questions.

8:56 PM
Oh. Can't they just edit that out?

anyone can delete a post, or edit it out, but it is there in the edit history, or the 10K users can see deleted.

it will show in the revision history

Ah.

you need a community staff member to go in and hard-delete the offending versions of the question.

The only sensible thing to do is change your password.
2

8:57 PM
You need to do that too.
but phone numbers, e-mail addresses, real addresses, etc. Those things are posted with surprising regularity

Yeah, the Smoke Detector catches it left and right.

Anyway, my real point, is that there is a huge amount of stuff you have to know to be an effective mod, but you can't possibly learn it all before you start.
4
You will pick it up, and you will have help, etc.

thank you

Also, you should be prepared to apologise a few times ;-)

@rolfl not following, a little confused....

@rolfl the first sentence of my mini-rant was a little off and probably not right

@Vogel612 do they mention our election on the podcast?

not yet..
right now it was login changes, graduation process changes, and reddit drama

9:04 PM
@Jamal lol

there's always some drama somewhere

@Vogel612 Which reminds me, I actually had a short dream last night in which I briefly talked to the Reddit CEO about the moderator reactions on her site. All of that must've sunk into my brain rather quickly.
