@Hosch250 No, I wouldn't have joined the election just to be nice. That was just the tipping point that moved me towards deciding to run.

Q: Moderator Cheat Sheet

user149432As an alternative to the other FAQ format being fleshed out here on Meta Stack Exchange, I'd like to propose something far more terse that covers the bare essential mechanics of being a moderator. Feel free to add more questions, but keep them short: this isn't the place to get into complex mod...

As some homework for the potential mods: The help page the Theory of moderation, the mod agreement, the Mod Cheat Sheet and Mod FAQ

oh buggar
I am off by an hour

7:25 PM
if I would have just looked at my Computer clock, I have Stack time up there....

requesting pin ^^
okay wat... 4 candidates with ~40 score right now.
the rest is at 10 and below.
one interesting thing about primaries... the display score will not go into negative..

if you have the right rep on site you can see how many downvotes they have

true, but it's still interesting to know :)
things look pretty clear though..

I wonder if someone will eventually reach 100. There are a lot of users with 150 rep, but not all of them will vote.

well there's 450 caucus badges as of now. I think there's a good chance :)

8:18 PM
My 5 predictions score the highest.

@Hosch250 interestingly that makes the election phase just more interesting.
depending on how the votes work out, one of the "underdog" candidates may as well recieve enough votes to get a position over someone who fared well in the primaries

True.
I don't have to worry about getting elected, I see.
I had a feeling that low comment count wasn't so good.

8:46 PM
holy carp, this community is on fire!
3

Yep, some are going to reach 100 soon. 200 may reach it first, especially with no downvotes.

@Jamal you two are 3 votes apart!
wait no, you're ahead!
STAHP VOTING SO FAST!!

No wonder these don't refresh automatically.

I'm impressed by the turnout
more than 100 voters in the first hour

hmm. It's not really surprising who got the votes
it's surprising how fast it happens though.

8:55 PM
It's not over till another 4 days. That's just 1 hour, picture has plenty of time to change.
And it's just the preliminaries

@Mat'sMug hmm.. you just don't want to get elected ;)
there we go, 200 got the 100

the first 1-hour didn't surprise, I don't think the next 4 days will ;-)

jamal also got 100 up (but 3 down)
and we're at 100 more caucus badges

I guess the notification also "woke up" inactive users from other sites, mostly SO.

hmm.. but the nominations also get you a notification...
soo... the questionnaire already got 3 answers.
are you still killing or are you frantically typing, @Jamal ?

9:06 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg and @200_success are the only ones without downvotes so far...weird

Jeez. I got 12 Upvotes and 11 downvotes. Yikes.

@EthanBierlein you're a controversial topic
just like Quill, btw.

Oh. Okay.

interestingly the "middle field" suffers from general "vote starvation"
I mean... 200 got 100 votes, and Phrancis got 20-something

@Vogel612 Typing what?

9:08 PM
What, may I ask, is so controversial about me and Quill?

your answers to the questionnaire :)

I'm not doing that quite yet.

@EthanBierlein I figure the age will be one of the primary reasons you get downvotes.

Bah. Oh well.

hiya @r3wt welcome to the Election Chatroom!

9:09 PM
I'm torn between Jamal and 200_success
both great moderators

upvote both! :)

@Vogel612 i upvoted every candidate.

Maybe if people see my answers to the questions they'll reconsider...

In the last phase, you will have three choices.

Once I answer them, of course.

9:10 PM
like rock, paper, scissors?

more like "pudding, chocolate ice and marshmallows"
order by how much you like them

Wow, a lot of votes have already come in.
Just put my round of votes down.
I could write a meta about how STV-like voting systems work, but it might be superfluous and not CR-specific.

why not? I think there's some nice stuff on parent meta, but nothing wrong with a CW / selfie explanation on CR meta
@EthanBierlein just for the record.. you got more total votes than me right now..

9:26 PM
@Vogel612 What... Wow..

like.. 2 upvotes less than me
and a huge bunch of downvotes more...

Yeah...
I'm sure most of those downvotes stem from my age.

unfortunately, yes.

I see the voting is coming along nicely

9:43 PM
there really should have been be 5 moderator spots

hmm...
you'd get one then?

no
I am in 6th place I think
I am trailing Janos who is in 5th place
but there is a big gap between Janos and I, and between Janos and Simon
like 30-40 votes

hmm..
eh well.. House MD, then bed...
I'll just check back if tomorrow looks more promising for me :)

Jamal and 200 are going on 150. I wouldn't be surprised if they made it over 200 - everyone on the site got a notification.

Keep in mind, these are just primaries.
It's completely possible for the 5th to be appointed and for the 4th to be not.
This is only to select which 10 will go through to the next round, nothing more.
@Vogel612 Perhaps. But what would I tag it? It's not a discussion.

9:58 PM
Yes it is.
It's a discussion on the community approach to voting.

More of a 'how-stuff-works'

10:28 PM
I feel like I'm on a roll here with these candidate questions.

Jamal and 200 hit 150+ votes.

Cool. They're totally gonna be moderators.

I'm pretty sure it's going to up to the five I guessed to battle it out.
I'm hardly going to squeak past the primaries.
If I even do.
You or Quill could still beat me out.

^^ 10 > 0
I doubt it

I don't think I even have a chance. Last I checked I only had 14 upvotes and 13 downvotes.

10:32 PM
That's a thing
right
I have 19 down
@200 has 2 down

Okay guys, poke holes in this in, 3, 2, 1 go!

A: 2015 Moderator Election Q&A - Questionnaire

Ethan BierleinEthan Bierlein A question is flagged: Please delete this question - my boss has seen it and says it contains confidential code - he's freaking out and wants me to remove it, but I can't delete it. The question was asked 3 days before, it has 2 answers, one is accepted. How do you respond? T...

@EthanBierlein See my edit

thanks

Don't worry, I'm in the bushiness of editing on CR :P

@Malachi OpenSTV always plays havoc with the results
Election results are almost never equal to primary results

10:45 PM
@Quill What would we call you? The Quillilizer?

I think we can agree that 10 of us are running for 2 spots, though.

What. 2 spots?

Yes, just two spots.
Jamal and 200 have nailed theirs.

2 mins ago, by Undo
Election results are almost never equal to primary results

@Undo Example?

10:46 PM
Although, they've got in the bag

Jamal and 200 are going to lead the polls by a long shot.

@EthanBierlein 2015 SO election
Jeremy Banks barely beat me out for 10th in the primaries, then won 3rd in the election

In 2014, IIRC, one of the moderators won in the first round.

Oh yah.

You mean I might actually have a chance? Uh-oh ;)
I'm not betting anything on it.

10:51 PM
Well, @Hosch250, the primaries are designed to slim the pool down to 10 candidates, and out of 12, you're 10th

@Quill Yeah, I've followed a few elections on SO.

11:10 PM
Getting a pretty good turnout. I hope all those people come back around for the final round of voting.

YEah, I ran this query which I use to rank Code Review participation against other sites: data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/199310/…
In this case the important thing is that I use the presence of "Caucus" badges to indicate whether a site is graduated.
Using that column differently, though, it is apparent that our site is now ranked abour 18th on the network already, with our 668 awarded badges.
