@GarethRees I suppose I could edit the post. The only difference really is just the parentheses for print.
Alright, I've updated the post

SSRS is evil

There's an easier way to do this, right?
var result: UInt8 = 0

result |= ((var8 & 1) << 7)
result |= ((var7 & 1) << 6)
result |= ((var6 & 1) << 5)
result |= ((var5 & 1) << 4)
result |= ((var4 & 1) << 3)
result |= ((var3 & 1) << 2)
result |= ((var2 & 1) << 1)
result |= ((var1 & 1) << 0)

I have been playing with your problem.

@xtfkpi How many words are you expecting? At the moment, I have about 57,000 of them.

I know about 15 much about Visual Studio
What's your question?

sorry, i don't understand your question

I'm trying to profile a C++ project and it isn't giving me much information.

Too bad you're not on OS X.

are you asking how many words program store to file?

You can send me source code if it's not too big of a project...

I haven't used C++ before and never needed to profile
My code is performant enough as I write it

Q: Finding the nth triangular number

AnilI'm a first time poster looking for some advice. def triangularNumber(n): if(n == 1): return 1 else: return triangularNumbers(n-1)+n works great to find the nth triangular number up to 996... I get some error in the recursion after 996. But can tell what it is because i...

@JeroenVannevel, you are not Jon Skeet.

@JeroenVannevel All right, thanks for replying anyway

i have not chacked how many pages were parsed

@nhgrif Jon. Jeroen. Both our names start with J. Coincidence?

Nobody will be Jon Skeet. Ever. unless you're a hacker

Yes.
Coincidence.
That is the very definition of coincidence.

Not even hackers can beat Jon Skeet.
Jon Skeet beats hackers. To death.

In fact, I just looked up "coincidence" on Wikipedia and it gave this very example.

The definition of coincidence everything is Jon Skeet.

@xtfkpi Ahh, I was missing countable and uncountable words, like: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/1-up#English

@nhgrif WTF?

sorry, i am newbie in this chat

@Mast "msvcr120d"

5:24 PM
@JeroenVannevel Looks perfectly awesome
Happy now?

You've got the 120D model VCR from Microsoft.

Thanks! Merging

@nhgrif Yea, dll names are weird.
@JeroenVannevel Oh wait!

Nope, merged

The videocassette recorder, VCR, or video recorder is an electromechanical device that records analog audio and analog video from broadcast television or other source on a removable, magnetic tape videocassette, and can play back the recording. Use of a VCR to record a television program to play back at a more convenient time is commonly referred to as timeshifting. VCRs can also play back prerecorded tapes. In the 1980s and 1990s, until the VCR was superseded by the DVD player and PVR, prerecorded videotapes were widely available for purchase and rental, and blank tapes were sold to make recordings...

5:25 PM
Create an issue if you've got complaints

@nhgrif I know what a VCR is.

Well, don't believe anything on that Wikipedia page though.

Just no clue why my DLL is called like that.

There's a picture of a VCR that has had its time set... so obviously, photoshop...

And why my profiler doesn't give anything more useful.

5:26 PM
@xtfkpi That's OK.
Right, I have "them all".
67869 words.relaxed

It's not that weird - MicroSoft Visual C++ Runtime 12.0, though I'm not sure what the D is for.

@DanLyons I think it's the inferior version of the E-type

@Mast Sometimes you could... but at the end of the day, that's all in their DLL. You can't change what their DLL is doing...

D from Debug?

E is for Ebug then?

5:27 PM
@xtfkpi - It appears that, to be in the category "uncounted nouns", a word needs to be either directly in the category, or alternatively, it is in a "template" for word definitions.

and what is aim of our discussion here?

en-noun (plural en-nouns)...

@nhgrif I'm still figuring out how I should use it to squash performance bugs.

hmm. may be

I think it could run faster, but perhaps continuously iterating over a map isn't the best idea.

5:28 PM
The aim os for me to share some code I have which searches the uncounted nouns from wiktionary data without scraping.

Still iterating should be faster than division right?

i was not thinking so deep about all this

Having downloaded the data (took me 5 minutes)....

I don't know what you're doing.

@xtfkpi Welcome to CR. We think deep.

5:28 PM
I can read all the data in a minute, and find almost all the uncounted nouns....

We just put these collars on our cats that's supposed to help them stay calm. We're going to put them in a 3 hour car ride this weekend (moving).

@nhgrif Running stuff, looking how fast it goes. It doesn't appear to be CPU bound, but that's not surprising.

now I understood

so far, I'm not sure if they're calming yet, but they're acting like retards...

i am first timee in this chat

5:29 PM
Basically, I took your problem on as a challenge... and had some fun.

@xtfkpi Welcome to The 2nd Monitor. Enjoy your starry stay!

Ohhh, i see now

The way that the raw data is recovered from wiktionary is a little unexpected, though.
Normally, on wiki sites, you put pages in to a category by embedding something like: [[Category:some category]] in the page.

in the morning i was sure that i had solved this tak
now i understood it's only beginning

In wiktionary, though, they have a processing template which takes something like: {{en-noun|-}}
and uses that to create a bunch of categories, including uncounted english noun
So, from the raw data, I use two regular expressions to search for uncounted noun words:

5:32 PM
I think I should split more stuff to functions. That's definitely going to help.

"\[\[Category:English uncountable nouns\]\]" "\{\{en-noun[^}]*\|[-~]"

Darn, now I need to think of decent function names...

This looks a question that you could post in codereview.stackexchange.com :) — AlvaroSantisteban 22 secs ago

No problem. I may just post a question myself for review, @xtfkpi - with a different strategy

As a side note, by the time things get to meta, or mails to the SE staff, there's normally a bunch of things that have washed under the bridge already. It often is a disadvantage to everyone when things are not abailble publicly to discuss. Users can't show evidence of the pattern of behaviour from mods, and mods can't show evidence about patterns of behaviour from users. People who are uninvolved can't find the history to use as background, and no-one can trust anyone else.
That is why there is the SE staff, where finally the buck does stop.

I like when things are abailble

A: Code Review is in need of a new moderator

Jamalgulps Well, hello there everyone. I would like to nominate myself for the moderator position. Although I haven't yet been here for a year, I feel that I've accomplished so much in terms of keeping this site clean and helpful to others. Although I certainly don't need to be a moderator to keep...

crickets

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

If only my actual resume was as lengthy as that post. :-P

Resumes shouldn't be long.

You wanna bet on that @QPaysTaxes?

6:34 PM
@QPaysTaxes Huh, my age is no longer displayed on the profile page.
If anyone is younger than 13, now is not the time to speak up.
2

@rolfl Age-overflow, old dude.

RSA

@nhgrif Maybe I was somehow thinking of a professional resume, which is obviously out of my scope. My dad's resume is two pages long and in paragraph form.

Resume one page, Curriculum Vitae can be longer
Personally I use them interchangeably

@rolfl I surpassed that limit about 1 1/2 years ago. I'm good.

6:36 PM
@CaptainObvious I'm not sure about this question...

In Belgium everyone just calls it CV anyway. I'm not sure if there's a Dutch word for Resume

@QPaysTaxes it's context-dependent. usually around here it's for "Close Vote"

I had my resume checked by a university counselor twice, so it may be good. I'm just trying to find a job for which I actually qualify.

> In many contexts, a résumé is typically limited to one or two pages of size A4 or Letter-size, highlighting only those experiences and qualifications that the author considers most relevant to the desired position. Many résumés contain keywords or skills that potential employers are looking for via Applicant Tracking Systems, make heavy use of active verbs, and display content in a flattering manner.

I was sure to put keywords in mine, too. Based on one list of keywords, I already have six.

6:39 PM
sounds.. appropriate

Yeah, people interviewing you will most likely sniff out the BS... and they'll be far less interested in you for it.
And if they can't sniff it out, consider how many of your coworkers pulled off such elaborate BS in their resume if you got the job.
And your teacher was trying to teach you.
I didn't misunderstand.

Better chewed out by a teacher than be oblivious during a real job interview

@QPaysTaxes Same here.

"it all works" but... "Just sometimes I think some things are happening sooner than others and I'm not sure how to get around it". Are the things happening out of order a problem? Either things happening out of order is a sign that your code doesn't actually fully work, or you need to massively expand on why it is problematic (but not broken) that they happen out of order so that we can write appropriate answer. — nhgrif 7 secs ago

Everyone always gets confused when I give my explanation of functions, only to realize that I've been explaining a slightly different type of function.

6:42 PM
I didn't assume.
I was asking you to assume it was real.
You were supposed to be learning how to create a real resume that you'd take with you on a real job interview.

Anyways, TTGCOMYLAIITLDOS

So you turned nothing into 6 things.

"What do you mean, you don't believe I was a two term president?"

For example, 90% of the time, the collection view shows up fully, 10% of the time when the user leaves this screen and comes back, the collection view is just blank. It scrolls, the background is visible, there aren't any cells though. I'm assuming this is because the collection view is loading before the data is finished. How can I guarantee this never happens? — Brandon Shega 46 secs ago
Sounds like broken code to me.

This is better for codereview.stackexchange.com . — Anthony 15 secs ago

@Duga Kinda sounds like it isn't the OP's code.

A: Smoothing Code Blocks

Anthony ScemamaIn your code, almost everything is similar: What you could do is write a script in whatever language you like (Python, Perl, Ruby, etc...) that will generate your fortran code. Here is a script in Python that would do what you want: #!/usr/bin/env python replacements = { "x" : { "j...

@Anthony In what way? This isn't asking for code to be reviewed. This is asking for time-complexity analysis. This question is not a great fit for Code Review. — nhgrif 48 secs ago

@Jamal It could be the OP's code... it's not particularly clear... but the question isn't seeking a review.

@200_success wat
@nhgrif Yeah. The wording just seems off to me.

Brandon Shega posts questions with some regularity now.
Half of them are just barely on-topic, the other half are just barely off-topic.

@rolfl When the elections come, there will be no news unless one of the current moderators decides to step down.

You guys have been doing a wonderful job so far and I wouldn't know why we would change a winning team.

@nhgrif And each question still includes a "thanks," even with all of them edited out. Perhaps I should go back to explicitly mentioning this.

@Mast that. or if there's a 4th opening

@Mat'sMug Is there?

let me check my crystal ball....
crystall ball says nothing

It would be very interesting to watch who will rise to the moderator position in that case.

6:52 PM
but my 8 ball says "maybe"

I'm more interested in a 4th & 5th close reason.

@Mast equally interesting to see who will nominate

I still have no plans to step down (technically "not run"). It still hasn't overwhelmed me, even after spending some period of time being the only one moderating (before the other two were appointed).

@Mat'sMug You got a SE manual somewhere which answers it?
@Jamal If the rest of the team has the same idea, it's fine with me.
I think it's fine with most of us.

First, reduce the number of nodes. Then post some specific code and ask for help optimizing it -- you might need to go to codereview.stackexchange.com instead. — Blazemonger 24 secs ago

After we finally get our site design implemented, I believe we get a two-week grace period before rep thresholds increase, then elections take place some time after that.

and I can't even imagine the %growth we've had since that nomination

@Mat'sMug close enough

Is there anyone with a DLSR that perhaps has experience with extenders, like 1.4x or 2.0x?

Sorry @nhgrif -- I might be wrong here but I thought Time-complexity analysis fell under performance on code review's topic coverage. — Anthony 37 secs ago

Too long since I did any decent exception handling in C++. It can't be this hard. It never is.
I want to throw an error instead of crashing the program when try fails. Can't be hard.

@Blazemonger: Please don't mention Code Review until actual working code is posted first. The user may end up posting the original question there first. — Jamal just now

@Mast - currently 3 mods.... no idea yet on how many will be after grad.

@rolfl Would you prefer more?

But, as an indication, a site with our general activity typically has about 5 mods...
Find Code Review in that list (sort it by different things), and compare the moderator users.

@rolfl Is that a yes?

No, it's an I don't knoiw, but, as soon as graduation is announced (whenever that may be), I will be communicating with the SE staff about how many mods there should be.
But, for example, CR has 33 questions per day, programmers has 28. CR has 3 mods, Programmers has 5
SciFi has 5 as well, with 27 Q's per day.
Security has 27 per day, and 4.
