What is a good word for excessively looking back at something? I thought rubbernecking

Anyone know where I can find the list of words in the French dictionnary, and export it, it's for coding a game?

happy new year everyone!

Q: Dreadnoughtus: Why are new taxa named using Dog Latin?

tchristOnce upon a time, binomial nomenclature was expected to follow Latin rules: the genus had to be a noun and the species had to agree with it. That’s why we have species names like sativus, sativa, and sativum seen again and again, the exact form depending on generic gender. So if knew a bit of Gr...

An upvote gets me a hat.
Maybe that should be been Dreadusnought.
Or Dreadusnot.
Who can say? It’s painful to read either way.
Judge Dreadus Noughtus Roolz.
Or is that Naughtius?
He was pretty naughty, after all.
Dreadius maximus

8:48 PM
@Robusto I still am an owl. An incognito owl in drag. You're just jealous and stuff.

Everybody dreads snot.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 so Canada reversed the Earth rotation, eh.
I other news, so far the drinking has been quite successful and to the best of my satisfaction.
I shall have more of these I don't mind if I dos.
Also, Breaking Bad is on, so I can't be being here.

crl
I just finished reading "Mudwoman" I'm a bit confused

I have to come back to say WTF
Is it April or January 1st?

@RegDwigнt I am stuff. That is true.
@RegDwigнt It's "morning" in America.

8:59 PM
@crl Hello, happy new year.

Spoiler alert!
Some of us who have not yet seen the New Year don't know whether it's happy or not. So please don't spoil the surprise for us, tyvm.

It's going to be another very sad year for me. I really feel like crying now.

crl
@Robusto How can you know a year is sad or not from its first minutes only?

If it ain't instant bliss, it just doesn't make it for me.

crl
@JasperLoy nah the year of redemption

9:03 PM
@Robusto That day, you asked me if there were people around me more unfortunate, and I said yes. I would like to say no right now.

crl
In the last book I've read, they say being alone is a pain, your brain never stop thinking

I think this is it. I have hit the global minimum point of my life. It is right now.
@crl What book is that?

crl
@JasperLoy Mudwoman

@crl How is your mental condition these days?

crl
@JasperLoy I can give you one example of people less "happy" than you, the people in psychiatric hospitals who are on antipsychotic, those things disconnect your brain
there's nothing worse than having no more brain
@JasperLoy well, better without any idiotizing drug

9:11 PM
@crl Do you think your meds make you feel better or worse?

crl
they make me more stupid, that's all I know

Where's Matt? Oh, he's gone to a party.

crl
it was supposed to lower dopamine, but it really stopped dopamine on me, so a very slow brain activity during 4 months

Right now, I think I may never ever recover.

crl
it depends on your energy both mental and physic

crl
9:26 PM
@JasperLoy I'm playing this game play.google.com/store/apps/… and plan to code it in javascript

@crl I see. I hate all games.

crl
but we couldn't play against each other, because I play it in French, in English my vocabulary is too short
a math exercise for example is a game, you don't hate it

@cri: The problem with getting a dictionary list of French words is that you have to permute them for all the inflections, which a dictionary never does.

crl
oh I see
all plurals, conjugated words etc

So, while I would expect to find plateau, I would not expect to find plateaux. Similarly I would find the adjective blanc in citation form but perhaps not blanches in the feminine plural. And then you have the milliards of verb forms.
Yes, all that.

crl
9:30 PM
yes I need all combinations indeed, for my game
This guy found it but in English github.com/tcokoro/ruzzle-solver

What’s that?

crl
A ruzzle solver: you give it the grid of letters, it tells you the best words to find
by descending score I guess

Well, I don’t know ruzzle, alas.
riddle + puzzleruzzle

crl
it's a bit stressing, you have 2 minutes to find the most of words in a 4x4 grids, but what's funny it to find the circuits to make the words

Ahah.
One of those.
I see now.
Today I learned a new word: dwelth, meaning an error or delusion.
> Etymology: OE. type dweluða, *dweoluða, from root *dwel-: see dwele, dwell.
Well, that will never format correctly.
Unfortunately, the latest OED citation for the word is from 1420.
@crl Circuits sound cool.

9:38 PM
what are you wearing Tom?

Jeans and a long-sleeve t-shirt, thick woollen socks.

crl
@tchrist paths is a more appropriate word :)

@tchrist :)
I meant your hat both times

crl
some Hamiltonian paths

The kofia is a brimless cylindrical cap with a flat crown, worn by men in East Africa, especially Swahili-speaking cultures. Kofia is a Swahili word that means hat. The kofia is worn with a dashiki, a colorful African shirt which is called a kitenge shirt in some regions of East Africa. In Kenya, Muslims of all tribes wear the kofia with a kanzu, a white robe with a tassel. Recently, many Christians in Kenya have started to wear the kanzu as well. In Uganda, the kofia is worn with the kanzu on informal occasions. Jomo Kenyatta, the first President of Kenya, was often photographed wearing a kofia...

In topography, a nadir is a point on a surface that is lower in elevation than all points immediately adjacent to it. Mathematically, a nadir is a local minimum of elevation. A nadir may be the lowest point of a dry basin or depression, or the deepest point of a body of water or ice. The nadir of a body of water is often called a "deep", as in the Challenger Deep, the nadir of the Earth's oceans. == See also == Depression (geology) Endorheic basin Geoid List of places on land with elevations below sea level Maxima and minima Summit (topography) (antonym) Topography...

@crl Which we of course got from Arabic, along with zenith, azimuth — not to mention Aldebaran, Algol, Alhabor, Arrakis, Deneb, Fomalhaut, Rigel, Vega and oh so many more.

10:24 PM
Tom you never thought it was strange that I asked what you were wearing?

@JohanLarsson You never thought it was strange that I answered?

A bit yes.

It pleases me to provide answers undreamt of by my quærents.
Which apparently rhymes with clearance instead of with parents.

10:40 PM
or tyrants
@tchrist Does that explain why as you get older and older, Comic Sans gets less and less funny?

@tchrist Why did you not x-dress then? String bikini & gas mask.

and crocs

So I have to chat in 1 hour 5 minutes.
I'll set up an alarm.
@JohanLarsson you are doing this all wrong.
015

why leading zero?

10:53 PM
Because star it.
Then you'll see.

ta-DA!

fragile design though

I prefer the term flexible. Or rubber.

the mutable pit of failure

10:54 PM
Let's see how high we can go.
And now I'm off to watch the fireworks in the garden.

Q: What is wrong with Comic Sans?

dumbledadThere's a great TEDxExeter talk by a colleague of mine, Simon Peyton-Jones, about the recent advances in the English lower school 'computer science' curriculum. Like all of his slide decks he uses Comic Sans throughout. Depressingly, though inevitably, one of the YouTube commenters berates him f...

Here we go!

Happy New Year @Cerberus!

@tchrist It's a question that needs answered.

@Mitch but "everything" is not 30 characters long.

@RegDwigнt anything worthwhile is.

11:56 PM
Another shortcoming of the English language.

not that everything else is crap though.

Not?
Oh.

I mean ... Gunga Din?

Is that like Genghis Khan?

They're related.

11:57 PM
Of course.

cousins?

All of us in here are related to Genghis Khan.

So is this how we get a hat?

some of us more than others

@Nicole Supposedly so.
We'll see.

11:57 PM
goes to check hats

It will take a minute I guess.

They aren’t paying us any attention.
