Okay, I'm gonna go write a thing to keep track of what we've already posted.
actually, scratch that. I have other things to do :P

3:51 PM
@Undo Do we really need 'idiot' as offensive word for SmokeDetector? It has not yet given any true positive. And the people at ELU chat also did not find it useful.

probably not
I think the origin of that was some mSE crap where a guy was harassing our beloved Tim Post :P

Depends on whether it's not required elsewhere. ELU is a special case.

I haven't seen it come up with a true positive yet

@Undo ^ Do you have two instances running? Those links refer to the same posts?

I don't think so

@Undo Of course

@ProgramFOX Of course

4:32 PM
Something must have bumped that last post
Either that or the chat listening portion of one instance is dead, which I've seen before
It only posted once in the ELU room

Hmm, I see.
@Undo It is running two instances. Check the Tavern.

@ProgramFOX weird
k, thanks

@hichris123 is it faster like iOS-sim-faster?

Yeah, it's a ton faster @Undo. Try it.

okay :P
why are they forcing me to make an account?

did someone get in trouble for being OT in TL or..?
just curious.

@Seth No, just don't want to clutter up TL.

mkay.

10:29 PM
@Undo no clue.

that, and it'd be nice to be able to read this if one of us retires :P

@Undo they like being like Apple ;)

@Seth ... you can download the toolkit without a dev account since forever

A: Why is the Android emulator so slow?

blaffieTry using Genymotion. You can download a version for Windows/Mac OS X/Linux after registering. A plugin for Eclipse is also avaliable: The installation of the plugin can be done by launching Eclipse and going to "Help / Install New Software" menu, then just add a new Update Site with the fo...

i.e. years

@Undo ^^

@Undo that's not my understanding.. but I don't have a machine that runs OSX so.

@Seth Xcode is available in the app store: itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?mt=12

interesting.

Makes a ton more sense

yep

10:34 PM
launching genymotion :D
:(

... do you have VirtualBox?

no :P

what.. do you use to virtualize?

nothing
I don't.
@Seth why would I?

oh, so I should be asking: "Do u even virtualize bro?" ;P
@Undo because... you're a programmer.

10:37 PM
I have EC2 instances :P

Programmers test programs on different platforms and instances.
EC2 can't run a gui, can it?

It can
I've done it before
And anyway, since I don't write desktop stuff, I haven't run into the need to virtualize yet.

true enough.
@Undo not X forwarding?
that doesn't count :P
no idea how that happened... >.<

Nah, you can install ubuntu-desktop and rdp or something on an EC2 instance
You have root access to 'em, so you can do anything :P
And the windows server ones come with a desktop and rdp by default
yay it seems like it's gonna work
I'm gonna make myself a Nexus 4

@Undo I'd guess it would have to ;)

10:45 PM
hey, that was a ton better than the five minutes it takes to start the stock android sim

11:22 PM
@hichris123 So how are fragments and activities related?

@Undo An Activity is the whole of what's displayed; a fragment is a fragment of that. I think.
Never really used fragments much.

so why did it generate one for me?

I dunno, it just does that. :P

So would it be bad if I deleted it?

Google it and you'll get a better answer than from me. I'm not too sure. ;P
@Undo no.

11:25 PM
okay
... I deleted it and it borked stuff :P
((CookieListFragment) getFragmentManager()
                    .findFragmentById(R.id.cookie_list))
                    .setActivateOnItemClick(true);
it's unhappy about that
I'm gonna delete it too >:D
> Error:(61, 5) error: method does not override or implement a method from a supertype
it's getting worse :P
meh, I'll poke at this later
Genymotion is much better than the standard sim

yup
