12:21 AM
@terdon - yeah, he's gotten like 20 in the last 2 days I've gotten like 5, had to ask
he's got some secret juju that I have to know
only to know
at this point I could care less about the badge
I've been hammering that queue for the last 2 days every 3 seconds and he's getting them

lol

slm
12:43 AM
@terdon - in the past week 53, me 24. The past month, 143, me 96. He's got some trick I have to know.

@slm not having a life?

slm
@Gilles - that's one possibility. But then what's my excuse 8-)

1 hour later…
2:04 AM
@slm for some weird reason it wont go to the background.... :(
@slm that's sad :(

slm
2:50 AM
@Braiam Which isn't going into background?

4
A: How to run a command in the background with a delay?

Kiwy´sleep 300 ; echo "80" > /sys/class/leds/blue/brightness 300 means 300 seconds ;) That should do the trick. But as you do not mention it explicitly, on android that will be much more different

hey it changed!

slm
the Q?

no, the answer...
doesn't work for me... and I don't understand the logic either

slm
goldilocks changed a couple of the A's I think, or pointed errors out to the guys
which A?

if you click the link it takes you to the answer, no?
Kiwy's answer?

slm
2:53 AM
that feature doesn't work for me, Gilles and I went over that a month or 2 ago here
yeahkiwy's won't background

mm... is there something wicked in my bash?

slm
the Q used to say sleep then run a job

actually no... didn't had sleep anywhere

slm
right it said after 5 min
the 2nd sent. said backgrounded
it was a mess to start, goldie cleaned it up and made it a real Q
but ppl had already tried to A what was there
i always edit before A'ing

are we reading the same? I don't see "sleep" anywhere in any of the revisions... and the answer still doesn't work :(

slm
3:00 AM
where doesn't it work? android or linux?

bash, the answer doesn't go to background as is supposed to and the question asks
maybe is time to install zsh and see if bash is trolling me..

slm
Yeah I originally had UV that, I just DV it's wrong for the Q now
@Braiam - only goldies, SF's and the at methods will work there
all the others are wrong

yeah, I was actually scared... it worked for 4 users and not for me...
also there wasn't any logic behind it that would explain how it goes to background

slm
I UV before the background bit came out. I hadn't been back to it since then

yeah, the question had to be modified several times to push the "background" condition
it wasn't clear in the first revision...
zsh looks weird in the gnome terminal... no colors D:

slm
3:10 AM
Yeah that's why goldie was hawking the other A's. I think all of them were missing it in the beginning, he added it and one of the other A'ers was upset that goldie took that bit from him, but he corrected the A'er that it was present in the Q to begin w/ and in goldies A
I don't use it
Gilles and Stephane are your guys for that, I think Jason uses it too
It's more work to switch to me, everything I need I can do with bash

nah I found out what happened... somehow now ls isn't a alias for ls --color....
is too weird for me...

4 hours later…
7:13 AM
@slm I am not ignoring you, but I think you guessed I was trying to get first place in all the voting scores (only after realising that I don't have the time and/or the broad knowledge to be #1 on the (new) rep). Giving away what I changed in my approach for Late Answers will of course have impact on that. Maybe I should get a life and give others a chance to contribute in this way. and trying to be # in closed votes is going to require a lot of time and dedication anyway.

slm
@Anthon - I was only curious from a technology standpoint
Reviewing the queues is just as important a service as answering

Actually something you did triggered my changing my voting behaviour.

slm
hows that?
I don't mind if you keep the secret but will you at least share with me after you ge the 1st?

I will tell you, let me think about if I do it before being #1 or not .:-)

slm
I work the queues all day too and can't help but notice your success
wait until after
i'm OK with that, I'm just curious
I've tried a number of methods and am brute forcing it now, you obviously have a more subtle way, which has tweaked my curiosity
the others here like to raz me about it, only b/c I mentioned it a while ago, that you have greater insight to it than any of us

7:18 AM
I was wondering if you were going to notice, I promise I will let you know

slm
but keep the secret sauce a secret until after you've achieved the 1000
@Anthon - kind of hard not to notice. As I said, you're about 50+ more a month on just the last queue than I and I think b/w the 2 of us we're getting ~99% of the reviews.
@Anthon - I say if you have the time then continue, you do a good job of cleaning up and reformulating the Q/A's, I always notice if we don't do it that there will be a pile of poorly formed Q's. Also we started a cleanup project on meta wrt retagging, you might be interested in helping out with that activity once we get it going.

I only read across the retagging, was that not already done? I might go back and look at the Q&A about it.
Voting is important as well. I don't like it when I see that the closed votes can take up to a day to gather enough of them.
so where does the 'l' come from in slm (middle name that is not you google page?)

Q: Re-tagging Activity - 2013

slmGiven our community has been growing, and we seem to have a fairly active base, several of us thought now might be a good time to do some house cleaning on the site. Given cleaning is a never ending task, we thought we'd set the bar low, to start, and take up a re-tagging effort on some of our ...

yes they are my initials. I've used Unix for so long that was my original username, seemed fitting here, louis. Though I regret it at times b/c many ppl write sim and I never get the reply 8-)

I was looking for your email (might not want to give away the secret here for all the minions to read ;-), at least not right away).

slm
We haven't started the retagging effort as of yet, I've been busy with work and holidays here in US this week. Will try to kick it off probably next wk.

Oh I remember walking into Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving....

slm
yes I understand, no sense giving away things that ppl won't appreciate!
Yes I have no desire to go out on Black Friday, I have kids so we'll likely go to the Science Museum instead

Exploratorium?

slm
It has a little of that. I live in Rochester, NY, we have an older style museum and planetarium, we'll probably go to the planetarium and then hit the museum portion afterwards.

Somehow I thought you were on the west coast

slm
no east, we have 6 inches of snow now

6 hours later…
1:47 PM
@Anthon minions! MINIONS! We're just the little people not your effin' minions :)

slm
1:58 PM
@terdon - now Anthon is showing off, he got 20 in the late answers queue, I have 1. See he has juju.

@slm OK, I can see how that makes you his bitch but how does it follow that the rest of us are minions? ;)

slm
ouch

hehe
Suck it up Sam...

slm
@terdon - he and I have been emailing since this morning, he explained how he's able to do it

Ah, gave you the secret huh, not shared with us plebes?

slm
2:00 PM
he's found a loophole

Don't really care actually, I'm just glad you guys are putting in all this effort.

slm
he didn't want to give it away here, rightly so

@slm oh really? OK,that's cool.

slm
i won't use it, but i know now, at least in the theory

Damn, now I'm curious
OK, I'll ask for it as a present when I pass 20k

slm
2:02 PM
Today he's showing off that he has control

@slm, just accept it, you can't expect to compete with captain Picard!

slm
Already have, I'm more in aw
he shared the details which I find facinating

There, you go, you're "number one" to his Picard.

slm
I could care about the badges and such, a true geek, I'm more interested the modifications to the hotrod

I actually had to check the first time I saw Anthon's profile pic, I thought it was Patrick Steward

slm
2:07 PM
kinda

yeah...

slm
oh yeah
doppleganger
I basically cried uncle and he's dialed back, now that he's established he has full control of the review queues if wanted.
His approach is very insightful though

slm
2:25 PM
@terdon - I've been rubbing 2 sticks together, he has a blow torch!

A bit more advanced than that I think: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

slm
I told him I tipped my hat to him, he obviously figured out the system, I'd like to watch it run some time, the setup sounds impressive.
yeah he's got photon torpedos
@terdon - what's your email?
send it to sam.mingolelli@gmail.com

done

slm
got it

3:11 PM
My girlfriend has to laugh about the comparison to Patrick. She has forced me to let my hair (the little I have) grow back, so the picture is not so up-to-date anymore.
@terdon Today's 20 include 18 that I got through an exploit. I explained slm and I already notified SO help desk that they should deduct the 18 and close the loophole. The scores from the last few days were not really exploiting this, but riding on the same principle. Before I disclose more (and others misuse it like I did today) I would like the loophole to be closed.
I promised slm not to misuse the stuff anymore and just do things the way I did until a week ago.
I hope that it is clear to everyone, that I never, except for the 18 votes today, voted automatically.
But there is some automated help getting my attention to votabilities .
sorry about the minions, blame it on me not being a native speaker of English

3:57 PM
@Anthon 1) The minions are fine, I just found it funny, not offensive in the least! 2) If you are "exploiting" loopholes to improve the site, all I can say is thanks :)

@terdon the loop-holes do not improve the site that is why it has to go (IMHO and disclosure to @slm is in part to keep me honest). But I hope my quick reaction to items on the queues helps to the improvement (as do many other things, I do not or seldom contribute to).

@Anthon that's what I meant, loopholes should be closed but using them to do something that improves the site is hardly "exploiting" even if it does get you points.

4:12 PM
I agree, but all within limits. Don't want to get 20 points a day without doing anything useful (but trying to maximize the daily votes you cast is ok IMHO).

1 hour later…
slm
5:39 PM
My kids laughed at the minions comment b/c of the despicable me movie

slm
6:30 PM
@Anthon @Terdon I found the whole thing funny, and I enjoyed having some one push me so I don't mind in the least. As i've said to Terdon I'm more interested in how, I could care less at this point if you get the badge first, there is always someone ahead of you in life somewhere. The fun is in pushing each other to do better, IMO. 8-)
@Anthon @terdon - agree w/ the loophole bits as well. You're reviewing items so I hardly see that as dishonest in any kind of way.

don't worry @terdon, they will fix it in 6-8 weeks ;)

7:09 PM
/don't mind me, I'm testing something

Q: After failing to post a chat message and correcting the cause, “retry” should actually retry, and succeed

GillesSometimes I get logged out of chat. No biggie, I just click on the “chat” link from a Q&A site where I'm logged in and it logs me back into chat. I usually realized that I'm logged out because I try to post a message in a tab that I had open back when I was logged in, and I see the message “You ...
