The PIN that comes with your card is a hash of the card number. If you change it, only the offset is stored.
A personal identification number (PIN, pronounced "pin"; often erroneously PIN number) is a secret numeric password shared between a user and a system that can be used to authenticate the user to the system. Typically, the user is required to provide a non-confidential user identifier or token (the user ID) and a confidential PIN to gain access to the system. Upon receiving the user ID and PIN, the system looks up the PIN based upon the user ID and compares the looked-up PIN with the received PIN. The user is granted access only when the number entered matches with the number stored in ...

FAE
@BESW Yeah, I don't know if he still speaks it though. I find conlangs really interesting, myself.

My grandmother used to get a weekly Esperanto newspaper.
And our local native language is something of an unusual case, as it's something like a reconlang.

FAE
What's your local native language?

Chamorro.

FAE
I did some online Esperanto lessons waaaay back but I've forgotten most of it.

1:05 PM
@FAE Cornish

Or Chamoru, depending.
It was a spoken-only language until the Spanish started writing it down. Then it picked up a lot of Spanish influence, was suppressed for some time, and is now being recovered.

FAE
reads wiki article

But there's a lot of debate about how to do so: how much Spanish should be kept in it (to take out the Spanish is to say that one's grandparents didn't know how to speak their own language, but to leave it in is to embrace the colonization of the language)...

FAE
Wow, only 47k~ speakers.

...and what alphabet/spellings to use (same as above, but with even more messiness).

FAE
1:07 PM
Understandable. Colonialism makes things so complicated when it comes to culture.

There are three (and a half) major orthographies currently being advocated.

FAE
And a half? O_o

Ish.
Guam's "official" orthography uses one primarily, but a few words are borrowed from another.
And one of the orthographies has a subset of advocates who want to capitalize the "h" in the letter "ch" whenever the "c" would be capitalized.
As in, "The CHamoru language."

FAE
Gotcha.

@BESW That makes the whole slow split up of Dutch sound simple.

1:11 PM
The three major orthographies, though, are: a) stick with the traditional Spanish alphabet and spellings; b) use the Spanish alphabet but modify the spellings according to a new-made orthography; and c) use an international phonetic orthography.
The Northern islands, where the language is more alive, don't care too much.
But on Guam, because the language is rapidly dying, the orthography is legislated and debated.

Good morning.

(If you're fluent in the language, "Inarajan" vs "Inalahan" is largely irrelephant--you know what's being said. But if the language isn't alive, orthography becomes much more crucial.)
@Yuki Hi!

Y'know, I feel surprisingly good for having had only 3 hours of sleep.

Hooray?

FAE
@BESW I've always found language regulation like that interesting as, being from America, we don't have that there. I live in the Netherlands now and they do have that type of thing here, like official spellings and such.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to experience your language dying out.

1:16 PM
@FAE Guam is, technically, America. We're an unincorporated territory of the USA, and only a few decades ago speaking Chamoru was banned in the public schools, including during recess on the playgrounds.

FAE
@BESW True, I forgot that, my apologies. And wow, banned in public schools? Geez.
@Yuki Good afternoon!

@FAE No worries. I'm used to being told I speak very good English when I go to the mainland.
And yes, my mother remembers the ban from her school days.

@RedRiderX Add comment asking for name adding?

FAE
What did you grow up speaking in your household?

1:20 PM
Please make this bit a CW.
@BESW Yeah I guess.

@FAE English. It's the only language I can really say I'm fluent in.
There's a good bit of Chamoru sprinkled into the local dialect, but only to the point that I can confuse non-locals, not to the point that I could carry on a conversation in the language.

@RedRiderX I assume you want in the list? I can fix that.

@RedRiderX Done.
Should I make the whole thing CW?

@Yuki ty
@Yuki Probably no need.

And yes, @FAE, if we choose to use Fate Accelerated Edition this could get complicated.

1:24 PM
@RedRiderX I dunno why, but I had always assumed you had more rep than me.
@BESW I say we should do this.

[snerk]

@Yuki I've heard a few people say this now...

@RedRiderX It must be the hat.

FAE
@BESW My brain was just like ping ping ping ping.

I suppose I'm one of the most inactive active users.

1:27 PM
@RedRiderX I get Mistaken For Mod pretty often over in rpg.se.

@BESW But at least you can do a bit more if people ask you. :P

@RedRiderX Kind of the same here, I just got lucky with a couple answers that got upvoted like crazy.

Ugh, someone ask a question now~

[shudder] I really need to go block Arqade's background image file.

@BESW Hah yeah it can be annoying on the wrong screen.

1:29 PM
It's like a bad florescent light.

@Yuki You need something to answer?

@LessPop_MoreFizz I see what they did there....

@Arperum Yeah, I'm literally two rep away from the bronze badge.

1:32 PM
@fredley I mean, the article is fine.

...okay, so that didn't work the way I hoped. Now I can't see any of the white text on the site.

And it's definitely big news.
but that headline was carefully tailored to show up in the 'most e-mailed' list or whatever and get attention.

On second thought, trolling for more questions to answer probably isn't the way to go about it.

@Yuki Can't help with a question though, don't own it.

@Yuki Hee, I forgot I had the badger script.

1:34 PM
@BESW Definitely a lot of influence from Finnish in that..

@3ventic Do they have construct like äaäa or something? Because Finnish is mostly äa's with other letters coincidentally added here and there.
or that's what I've seen of it.
@Yuki It's two upvotes and not two rep, but I see your point.

You'd think that after I made my answer CW, I'd stop getting alerts that people are editing it.

@Arperum ä and a and never in the same word unless it's a foreign word
but lots of a, e, i, o, u

@3ventic äää then Finnish people and their crazy ää's

a bit of ä and ö

1:39 PM
Psh.

@3ventic My clue that I am looking at something finnish is the complete overdose of the letter ä.

Chamoru has ', å, ñ, ch, and "y" is pronounced roughly "dz."

@GnomeSlice I have not played that in a looooong time.

1:40 PM
Oh, and ng.

That's a rank in the Finnish army.

@Yuki Same here.
I don't think I've actually played the full version...

I don't think I've ever played it
I suck at games like that
I believe I own it though, from some bundle or something.

@GnomeSlice Hah me too.

wasn't there a whole load of furore when that came out of it being completely misleading or something as to the state of the game?

1:45 PM
@3ventic What is the translated version?

@TZHX I think it was the reason Steam Early Access became a thing.

I'm pretty sure it was 100% clear it was unfinished

@Arperum Aeroplane jet turbine engine assistant mechanic lower officer student candidate (???)
And yes, we like to combine words a lot.

@3ventic That's a terrible jobtitle.

@Arperum it's a rank, not a job

1:54 PM
@3ventic Still terrible. I don't even want to be of the rank whatever candidate

@Arperum true

@Arperum I wouldn't mind being, say, "Puppy tester candidate."

yawn

sigh

@kalina *tries to throw skittle into @kalina's gaping mouth*

my mouth isn't big

@kalina More challenging

It could still be gaping though

@fredley 10 points!
Okay. I've just started on learning PHP for a school project. I'm five minutes in and I already hate it.
