@user85795 Huh
@Criggie ahh the smell of pouring bleach over rocks.
okay I can't spell "petrichor"
It does sound like good brand name for one of those autism cure industrial bleach enemas.
@Criggie In Shakespeare's day they used Petruchio.
The spelling Nazi do not accept excuses.
No, but they tolerate lapses of number agreement, don't they?
00:43
Grammar nazi/spelling nazi or grammar pedant/spelling pedant is a term for a pedant who compulsively criticizes or corrects others' grammar mistakes, typos, misspellings, and other errors in speech or writing. The term originated in 1990s discussion forums as a way to insult those who overly correct others' grammar. "Grammar Nazis" often correct mistakes humorously, though this can reinforce arbitrary standards of linguistic correctness. These corrections often reflect literacy privilege. The term is often criticized for being a lighthearted use of the word Nazi. Grammar nazis are often criticized...
@alphabet Not entirely sure about 'clearly'; but, in the intermediate term, it would probably have been better.
I will check Mein Kampf.
@alphabet I'd buy that
For someone else
@user85795 you better check yourself
@Robusto I see what you did there.
...which is a great way to sound like you know what's really going on whether you do or not.
00:58
In the English language, there are grammatical constructions that many native speakers use unquestioningly yet certain writers call incorrect. Differences of usage or opinion may stem from differences between formal and informal speech and other matters of register, differences among dialects (whether regional, class-based, or other), and so forth. Disputes may arise when style guides disagree with each other, or when a guideline or judgement is confronted by large amounts of conflicting evidence or has its rationale challenged. == Examples == Some of the sources that consider some of the following...
TL;DR you are what you speak
Ok you know what's really pissing me off?
The entire premise of the Three Body Problem.
What? The meaning of "three?"
@user85795 philosophically speaking, that may well be a difficulty, but no, I'm having a physics problem with it.
To explain, and it'll be quick, the aliens come from a star/planetary system with three stars and
Bup bup bup!
Right there is your problem.
Look man, I just found out Bertrand Russell wrote TWO chapters on the meaning of the word "the."
@Mitch I liked the tv series, but somehow just quit watching.
01:04
It's hard enough to have all the right conditions for life when your planet is in a stable orbit around a single star.
Sure a planet sized rock can survive for billions of years around a three star system (with -a lot- of luck...
But with life?
No that is just not believable.
All the other stuff, sure I'll accept that.
But not the lack of a life sustaining stable orbit.
So I want my $20 back from Netflix or whatever service I saw it on.
@user85795 snort
Wait
Really?
@Xanne I can't complain really. I tried to watch it but kept falling asleep, and not because of the show I just happened to be tired a few times when watching it.
@user85795 I need references!
No really
In the same book?
Ok, hang on
Yes.
I mean it -is- a lot
The word 'the' that is.
A third chapter might be called for
Intro to Philosophy?
An intro to Western Philosophy?
Yup, one chapter on the the singular "the" and a second on the plural use of "the."
01:12
Principia Mathematica?
Why I am not a Christian?
He makes references to that.
@user85795 cripes...I used to have a copy I think? Lost in the Basement Flooding Incident.
Where I also lost a Bible written in Cherokee.
And three encyclopedias.
Near the end of the video.
01:17
@Robusto That's early english for Pinnochio ?
@user85795 thanks...I'll watch tomorrow.
01:42
Does that mean, when you're done watching it will be np complete ?
02:01
@Robusto Iran has no nukes. I'm almost sure of that.
@user85795 movies. Very emotionally driven.
@user85795 we're "English usage controversies"?
@M.A.R. Even the Americans think it hasn't.
@Criggie oh you
@Mitch :heart:
02:36
actions speak louder than words; but, they both speak about what the speaker thinks.
@M.A.R. No, it's not a fad here. These products have been sold for many decades. :) It's just that they tend to deteriorate quickly. There are yoghurts with a long shelf life, yes. But with kefir, it seems hard to achieve
02:50
I again had a "neurological" attack, a bit like back in 2010. Feeling of clumsiness in my hands and legs, and for some reason it was very hard to swallow at will, as if the neural commands did not reach the muscles there. But absolutely easy to swallow when I started dtrinking a bit of water (automatic swallowing).
Curious.
Did you go to the hospital? @CowperKettle
03:45
@M.A.R. It's not because they're not trying to get them, though.
04:26
@user85795 I don't think they will find anything.
I sometimes feel shell-shocked in the mornings.
Curiously, my blood sugar is 9.0, a little above the normal range of 3.3 to 6.6 mmol/l
Some inflammation.
The attack was at 02:00 am, and now it's the morning already.
Back in 2000, I first had attacks of this kind, and my left arm was weak (tired quickly) and the small finger hardly moved; and there was pulsating pain in it. Then I went through doctors, and they misdiagnosed me with diabetes.
I stoppe self-studying guitar playing then, because the fingers did not move normally on the left hand.
My guess is that I've been having mini-strokes. But I have zero medical education.
But since there are no doctors around to go to, I will use this provisional hypothesis.
Local neurologists mainly diagnose you with "vegeto-vascular dystonia" until you fall dead. Probably post-mortem examination is more specific.
It's useless to go to any local "doctors".
Maybe only as a moral support measure, that will do.
05:28
Then go @CowperKettle for the moral support as soon as possible.

@Mitch Government built a "much demanded" temple in that state and inaugurated in election year and still they lost LOL
@M.A.R. I also hope so.

@user85795 Ah.. got it. The podcaster -says- first that Russell uses the singular 'the' in the chapter Descriptions, and then the plural 'the' in the following chapter. Then the podcaster says "He has two chapters on the meaning of 'the'". That's a faulty syllogism or rather a poor use of 'on'. The chapters are not -about- 'the' in two different ways. The two chapters are -about- much bigger topics and the happen tangentially to employ two different ideas about the definite article.
That podcaster is very misleading. I also found the video itself very unsatisfying, flipping through a book and saying 'this chapter is about {whatever the title of the chapter says"' and then maybe an underlined passage and just reading that one line.
It's like being offered cake to eat, but inside the frosting is mostly air. But it still takes you the same amount of time to eat.
But I do want to read the book now.
@Vikas I vaguely remember that. Biggest one ever (or top two).
@Robusto Are you sure?

@vikas Does this mean that BJP and Modi are not as popular among Hindus as previously thought? (I mean he's still pretty popular right?)

@Mitch Yes they are popular but I'm not sure why he lost popularity in election. Maybe opposition tried their best. Unemployment, inflation could also have affected results.

@jlliagre I wish they would get tired of Morocco. It feels like every way-off geographical guess I make winds up being from there instead of where I chose..
@Robusto Yes, they are clearly fans of Morroco, Manhattan, The French Quarter, London, and Tokyo.
23:55
@jlliagre Exactly.
And throw in Australia every once in a while, just so you'll choose a rugby game there and find out it's half a world away.
