Hasta luego!
> Hasta la pasta
also works. In English it would probably mean “till supper” with pasta having the English sense and so here used as a tongue-in-cheek metanym — although in Spanish it could carry other meanings because pasta has more meanings there than it does in English, including slang for money.

> Last Energy, a Washington DC-based company developing small modular reactors, says half of its orders now come from companies setting up data centres, compared to a quarter a couple of years ago. Last Energy has signed multiple deals to provide new data centres in the UK, although it is still waiting for regulatory approval.

“We’ve seen a flood of interest as those pain points become more clear,” says Michael Crabb, Last Energy’s vice president of commercial.

@alphabet are you perhaps a raccoon posting on SE ?
Pro-raccoon links to feel the algorythm ?
03:06
@Criggie Are you not already aware? I have made my species clear several times. Or do you just assume only humans can read and write?

Sometimes I fear that I have become too handsome and majestic.

I am, as this chatroom well knows, a he-raccoon, a disaster gay, and an all-milk diet enthusiast.

@alphabet you forgot "modest" too

04:13
@Criggie Do you commute to work on bicycle?
@CowperKettle mostly - why's that ?
@Criggie This is very cool
So cool it was damn near freezing this morning.
I'm thinking on buying USB-heated socks
Last night it only rained twice on the way home...
Once for the first half, and one more for the second half.
04:15
I'm not sure how long they might last, and so afraid of wasting money, though.
@Criggie I've just looked up the weather in your location, and it looks ideal
OK the USB heated socks/gloves are just normal clothes with a heated panel inside.
Normally its two pieces of plastic with a big flat resistor element between them.
THey're absolutely brutal to batteries :-\
For jogging and bicycling
For some reason, I stop feeling my toes even at a temp of about +1°C
So heating is imperative if I'm to continue working into the winter.
yeah its just going into winter now, yesterday was -1 C when I left home.
What kind of shoes do you wear ?
Your winter seems to be like our early May, from +1 to +11 C
Consider some boots, waterproof ones, with some woollen socks too.
04:18
@Criggie Heavy boots
I wear three pairs of socks, at least one is woollen
If you do go USB heater, it doesn't ahve to be in the socks it comes with.
Are your boots waterproof?
I also find that legwarmers and no ankle gap helps keep the feet warm
Stops the heat from leaving your leg on the way down :)
Yes, they are waterproof :)
Three days ago, I took a break and put some plastic bags (from bread loaves) over my socks, otherwise I would have to leave work early and get a fine.
This way, my toes gradually appeared in my body map again
yep that helps keep the wind and water out. Sounds like your boots aren't wind proof ?
They are, but I'm thinking on bying a pair of tough overshoes for them
Also I guess you do a bit of walking off the bike ?
04:22
To quickly put them on before going on the bicycle
@Criggie Walking helps, strangely. While walking, my feet get warm :)
yeah its working the muscles ion the foot
So yeah a heater in each boot is worth a try. You need either a USB power bank in each boot, or a wire up each leg and one power source in your pockets.
YOu can get the same kind of small heater for your hands too
There are some extremely cheap heaters on AliExpress aliexpress.ru/item/…
Heater pads
yeah - they're flimsy. When the element cracks they stop working, which is why flexxing them is bad.
Maybe I'll buy heavy overshoes, and attach those inside the overshoes. I'll jugaad something. (Indian English for jury-rig a flimsy but cheap contraption)
There are heated inner soles too
that might be a solution
04:27
sole-ution
:groan: your puns are terrible.
Are valenki still a thing ?
I remember reading about them in a book once
@Criggie Yes, they are cool. I used to wear them in childhood
Winter felt boots
04:50
Would they work on a bike? I don't know.
I do occasionally wear shin-high gumboots (wellingtons / galoshes) when riding in the rain.
05:34
@Criggie In winter they would :)
Not in any kind of muddy weather though

07:07
@CowperKettle Gosh!

5 hours later…
12:37
@CowperKettle You can also get those chemical toe warmers (the brand here is "Hot Hands," I don't know what they're called elsewhere). I've used them on long walks before; they work reasonably well.
Yeah but they're disposable.
THere are super-saturated saline ones too, with a clicker disk in the middle
But when they leak, you know about it.
13:21
Or you could try giving up NMFs, which cause hypothermia and all other diseases
Apr 27 at 0:47, by alphabet
@Robusto As I've explained, an NMF, or Non-Milk Food, is a food that is not 100% whole cow's milk.
14:04
@Criggie Don't forget to wear moon boots when appropriate.

@alphabet A pox upon thee racoon!
I had a strict budget of £10 today.
So I popped into the Oxfam bookshop on the way home ...
... and what did I see?
I saw a certain book by a certain siders person.
And so because of you I had to buy it because it was only £6.
Which is a) quite a coincidence as that shop only ever has half a shelf of philosophy
and b) a bargain really.
But now I'm sitting in my local pub
just before I go home to the battle-axe.
And if I stick to my budget my only choice for a pint
is Carling Black Label. Which is vile.
So @alphabet, that's just a round about way of saying I found that logic book. Thanks!
(But Carling Black label is unconscionably disgusting!)
Ciao!
@Araucaria-Him Quite welcome!
You know, an all-milk diet is very affordable.

19:46
@Araucaria-Him what logic book was that

1 hour later…
20:51
@MetaEd Theodore Sider Logic for Philosophy.
21:21
@tchrist why? So when I break down, I can moon-walk home ?
21:34
@Araucaria-Him What's useful about it is that it (a) covers pretty much all the formal logic you need for analytic philosophy, particularly modal logic, while (b) not expecting or requiring you to understand a lot of irrelevant mathematical background.
So you can understand all this talk of truth functions and possible worlds and counterfactual semantics without having to take a bunch of mathematics courses that will mostly cover things you'll never need to use.
21:50
My favorite logic book is "The logic of real arguments" by Alec Fisher
it's a very different thing, not a formal logic text but a practical guide to testing real arguments you might find in a book or newspaper
great for college freshmen
