Apparently PBS is set to produce its first childrens show with a raccoon main character. A true milestone in our fight for equality and inclusivity.
Most people seem to be focused on the fact that the raccoon has autism, but in my view it is far more important that a raccoon has been given a leading role.
02:42
Congratulations.
03:39
And yet I notice that PBS still does not have a single raccoon on its Board of Directors. The struggle continues.

Word of the day: honesty researcher

Greetings!
May I ask, is it valid to say: "Found 3 held transactions total" in a program state message?
Those are payment transactions currently "on hold" that must be authorized to be released eventually.

Today's was really easy.

Three of them had super obvious geographical clues.
@Robusto Already watched.
Ah, I see it's four years old. I wonder why it was in my feed this morning.

Ouch.
14:13
The idiomatic way to say it given the context of a UI prompt or message to a user would be:
"Found 3 'on hold' transactions total"
The reason is that 'on hold' is acting kind of like an adjective itself eg "This transaction is on hold, this other one is completed". 'completed' and 'on hold' are both categories that you've labeled. 'on hold' is not a literal adjective or adjective clause but under some circumstances you can use it like that.
"I found 3 held transactions" is converting things to a literal adjective, and is perfectly grammatical and idiomatic also, -but- in the context of a UI message in software it is clearer if you just use the label of 'on hold' as the modifier rather than converting parts of speech.
If you say "an 'on hold' transaction", then you know that the transaction is exactly in that category. With 'held', you have an extra step of inference to check which category it is in.
If this were a narrative text (rather than a UI message), you could say:
"I found 3 transactions that were on hold"
Here 'on hold' is not the label of the category but is describing the situation (but those two words are identical to the category label.

@Mitch I see what you mean @Mitch! Indeed, in an UI it's more adequate. It was supposed to be in a log message like for a debug logging a developer could switch, and currently there's no such indication but just an icon in the UI ^^" I did not start the development of. Yet, your suggestion to add some kind of label like at GitHub Issue labels of some sort, is a great one I will surely push during the development of this project!
15:53
@CowperKettle Don't get that at all. Can you explain?
16:08
@Lambie Yeah. @CowperKettle what do you want us to do with that? What do you think it means?
16:51
@Mitch I found it curious. I did not follow up much. He means that the current research in genetics is just "scratching the surface" compared with deeper analysis that will be possible. At least that's how I understood it.
17:17
The current state of genetic analysis is as if we studied Shakespeare not by analysing meaning of the sentenses, but by comparing the lettering of different versions.

@Artfaith Alternatively, use "Transactions on hold: 3" for when someone inevitably decides they want to parse your log messages programmatically and would rather have the number be easier to extract
20:11
@alphabet yes, that's even better (answering a real problem, rather than just the stated grammar one)
@jlliagre I rage-quit the puzzle today after making a boneheaded error in #1. I failed to notice the simplest clue, with me likely being the only one of us that could read it. D'oh!
20:36
@Robusto I confirm I can't read anything there. I sometimes identify alphabets but failed here.
