@Mitch I knew it was called that in English, but I actually didn't know it was from German!
@Xanne Ah, I probably should have known, thanks! Shows how little I know hehe.
All this makes it much better.
I still think it is a a bit of a bombastic cliché that should not be used when it doesn't have a specific function, when a simpler word will do.

@Cerberus

@CowperKettle Possible.
> Russia has suffered heavy losses in the Kyiv region and has been forced to withdraw forces, the General Staff of Ukraine's military says.
@CowperKettle I don't think they would be reliable. They can be banned once Twitter/FB realizes it and pays special attention to it.
They might affect for short term but not worth it.
> Muslim youth killed for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’, celebrating BJP’s victory in Uttar Pradesh
> Tension prevailed in Kushinagar on Sunday when the body of Babar, who had allegedly been killed by members of his own community for celebrating BJP's win in elections, was brought to his home. According to the family, Babar was returning from his shop on March 20 when he chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and was attacked by some local people.

I think Mariupol is the only focus now for Russia. They aren't planning for Kyiv.
Wait, they are preparing new soldiers on demand?
Ok
How many Rubles a Pizza costs in Russia?
It might give me some idea.
450 Rubles for a regular size?
Ok
It looks little higher than India's.
Is it after war or always been like that?
@CowperKettle Me also didn't eat after pandemic started.
@CowperKettle This salary is quite okay I think but not good enough for big cities comfortable life?
For 1 or 2 persons, it is good.
For bigger families, not good.
At the moment, Ruble is lower than Indian Rupee.
@CowperKettle Well.
Oh. That way 200,000 is much better?
Hmm
@CowperKettle Painful
How is oil transported from one country to another especially if they are much far from each other? Like Russia India?

I read there are pipelines and trains. But pipelines not possible so long?
And I'm not sure of a train track too.
And ships will only transport a small amount of oil.

@Vikas there is speculation that they affected the results of the 2016 US election, so I think you're underestimating the damage they can do.
@M.A.R. Yeah I remember, but after that FB/Twitter have become more aware and strict. Haven't they?
@Vikas it's an arms race. They can become harder and harder to detect, as FB and Twitter improve their detection algorithms. Short of banning Russian IPs, there's no way they would detect even most of these bots.
Hmm
I stand by what I said though. Whether or not the comment was made by a bot, many Indians, Iranians, Arabs, basically anyone with vastly different cultures and backgrounds to most 1st world countries treats subjects as serious as WW2 like picking a favorite football team. They 'root' for Hitler in the sense that he was team Germany. There is no regard for any real event that happened back then
And, taking our history books as an example, there is not much reason to elaborate on WW2. There's so much to talk about, whether it's 'genuine' history that every Iranian kid should know or the crapton of infused propaganda

Today's Worldle is so easy even a child could do it.
I solved Semantle #58 in 129 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 23.21 (480/1000).My penultimate guess had a similarity of 16.28. semantle.novalis.org
I'm getting tired just contemplating that.
@RobustosupportsUkraine Link?
Wordle Worldle different?
14:07
yes, today's worldle is very easy
Let me try
And I just barely solved Wordle, because I got 4 out of 5 letters by guess 2 and it was one of those words that has NINE possibilities. I lucked into it on the last guess, but I only had a 20% chance of choosing the correct one by that point.
@RobustosupportsUkraine I reached only 83% :( It was my first experience though.
I think I couldn't guess because I know world map only in 2D sense. Not in a globe.
@RobustosupportsUkraine same
I couldn't guess it because I never heard of it.
14:15
@Vikas That place looks pretty much the same on a flat map or a globe.
Close enough for rock 'n' roll, anyway.
I entered some well known countries only
I guess you don't look at maps much.
Yeah
But it looks easier than Wordle and Semantle
And less time consuming and interesting
Well
of course finding exact is not easy. But getting closer is easy
When they do tiny islands it gets hard.
Hmm
14:41
@Cerberus me neither
so dutch doesn't use that weird metaphor?
@Cerberus agreed
but all words are metaphors
they all came from somewhere else
the past is a different country
there's nothing new under the sun
you can't go home again
look back in anger
not right now, I'm already there
@RobustosupportsUkraine tiny islands that they call by different names you've never heard of and aren't actually countries.
I don't think they promised 'countries' but if they don't promise them then who's to say there are any rules at all?
@MattE.Эллен the left half is a scottish terrier and the right side as a cat about to bite a morsel
@Mitch that is surprisingly accurate.
@Mitch Not that I know.
@Mitch All is a big word.
But there are differences between metaphors.
some metaphors are boxes of chocolates and some are waste paper baskets
when someone asks me "what's a metaphor", I usually answer "discussing problems on the main site".
15:08
@CowperKettle issues?
Oh it has multiple meanings
> one in a series of things that are published or produced
@MattE.Эллен rimshot
Now that Matt is stepping down from mod he's looking around for other roles to fill. He may have to fight it out with Mitch for Dad Joke Czar.
ha! I think I'll have to settle for assistant to the Czar
You don't know what you can do till you try.
@CowperKettle I read about it.
I was already waiting for when it should happen.
Alas.
Now Putin will set up an enquiry for stopping the issues 😜
> Moscow prepared to closely study the possibility of selling the S-500 air defense system to India. As per Russian state news agency TASS, Moscow ready to consider deal for S-500 if New Delhi shows interest. Russia's India envoy, Denis Alipov, confirmed Moscow's willingness to offer S-500 air defence system. Russian Deputy PM earlier stated India might become the first foreign purchaser of the S-500, should it display interest.
15:56
@Cerberus it sounds more provocative with 'all'. If you say 'a lot', big whoop, you don't even get an eyebrow raise out of that.
16:23
@CowperKettle Who is, Germany?
If that were true, it would be a tectonic shift in NATO.
I can't imagine a bigger victory for Putin.
I don't think that will happen.

The English internet has been rendered unusable because an actor slapped a comedian. Truly a humanitarian crisis.
@CowperKettle Well the number is impressive, or rather, impressionable. And so is half that number, if there was any chance of him fabricating it. And it was due to the hubris of a thug who moved up in the world
@CowperKettle Imagine my disappointment when I mixed two liquids in test tubes and all they did was change color.
@RobustosupportsUkraine Til then Russia will retreat and 'things' shall calm down.
@M.A.R. 🤔
19:09
@CowperKettle I think there's a huge middle ground between vocal dissent, the sort of grandstanding, say, French politicians love to do while selling bombs to Saudi Arabia, and 'being in Putin's pocket'. The very existence of the term 'Putinversteher' (Hehe, it's a great one, BTW) speaks of the moral checks that prevent German politicians from 'being in Putin's pocket'. Of course, they can still be corrupt assholes who only care about oil and gas, but they won't be Tucker Carlson.
@Vikas 😤😣
I did not get that.
I heard about slap though
We prefer the term "heart special operation"
I prefer Special Heart Operation
Special Blood Operation?
19:46
@M.A.R. I'm guessing that there are are other things the Putinversteher has said that make the Putin references more telling. -Everyone- is trying to figure out what the hell is going through that guy's head and making weird statements like 'to understand Putin you need to see things from his point of view of {being a KGB agent|losing family members to the Nazis|riding Ferris wheels too often|being made fun of for having big ears as a child}.
It's like if someone says "Hitler was a vegetarian", some people might think 'Oh Hitler was a freak' and some people might think 'Oh Vegetarians aren't all great' and others 'Hm then maybe I'll consider being a vegetarian.'
So it's like..
I have no idea what the point is I was trying to make.
Something about bacon. Probably.
Spring is in the air!
Expletive!
It was looking up to that last week, but not today
@Mitch You don't get spring until June where you live. And maybe not even then.
Our first year in Boston we went to Cape Cod in June and nearly froze to death.
2
20:07
@RobustosupportsUkraine On the other hand, all the ice mountains of bulldozed snow in the big parking lots and street corners have already all melted.
@RobustosupportsUkraine The water is never not awful

2 hours later…
21:40
@M.A.R. What happened to the English Internet? It works for me?
@CowperKettle In my experience, "destroyed" often does not mean what we'd expect it to mean.
@CowperKettle I'd rather say Germany (and much of Europe) believed economic interdependence would prevent Russia from big wars, and they really, really liked the capitalist profits from affordable Russian gas and oil.
But that has changed.
Especially in Germany, things will not go back to that.
The shock all over Europe is real.
Never again dependence on Putin.

1 hour later…

Irpin seems to have been liberated by Ukraine, for the time being.
