@b_jonas There are different approaches to hyphenation. Apparently the American and UK rules differ, per a discussion I had in TeX SE the other day. As a rule of thumb, it's not worth worrying about.

Running at minus 17°C
My phone died on me due to cold, and only managed to record 9 km while I ran some 12 km. When I went into the runners' shack, it revived after some time, and in 10 minutes' time was showing a 71% charge instead of 1% again.

@CowperKettle Isn't it dangerous to be out in such cold weather?
Your legs appear to be mostly bare. Assuming that is you, which is implied.

@FaheemMitha I asked in en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Tea_room/2022/… and it's possible that both hyphenations are acceptible.

@b_jonas OK.
@b_jonas Hyphenations are at a level of detail that is not worth worrying about, IMO. Also, the hyphenation is normally done by the machine. You don't normally have control over it.

@FaheemMitha These are not my legs, it's a guy who always runs in shorts with his dog
I don't know why he does that. He just does that in any kind of weather.
I think it's bad.
My fingers went numb in that cold.
I was operating the phone, but I was not feeling the tips of my fingers. Just using them as sticks. The feeling in the fingers only returned later, some time after I put my gloves on.
So I don't know how he survives in shorts in this cold.

Trench feet is no joke
@Mitch well, there you go. You're supposed to be oblivious if you want to act in character. I dunno, be the technophobe stereotype? "How do I download the internet"
I'm supposed to be chasing an immortal little demon around who wants to mess up my work and life all the time. Hmm, probably allegorical or metaphorical or something.

Q: Pedals spin freely in cold conditions

HariI recently bought a second hand Giant Upland SE and to be frank, it is my first bike with multiple gears. The bike functioned normally for the first day or two. I could use all the gears. When the bike is stored indoors, the pedal and wheel work fine but once I take it out in the cold (anywhere ...

I had the same problem today. I used my bicycle as a kick bike the last 3 km.

Author of the most recent mini-review (seminar) paper in The Lancet about schizophrenia believes that cannabis increases the risk several-fold.

@CowperKettle That was already known, wasn't it?
But it greatly depends on how often / how much you use it, doesn't it?

@Cerberus Kind of, but this is the most recent review-like paper in a very prestigious journal
@Cerberus Yes, of course

And people who are at low risk of schizophrenia will still be at low risk even when smoking weed on a regular basis, won't they?

I hope so.

@M.A.R. What's this internet thing of which you speak?
@CowperKettle 'freehub' sounds like a word (but even with the picture I have no idea what it is).
But 'pawl'? That's like someone trying out a Scrabble word because it sounds English.
But I came here for he following:
> I have a fear of overly intricate buildings... I have a complex complex complex.

@Mitch In Russian, it's sobachka (little dog)
I was googling the reason why my bicycle's wheel stopped rotating while the rear sprokets were rotating today, in the cold.
And I came across a Russian forum thread, in which a guy with a similar question gets the reply "the little dogs in the nut are starting to get stuck"
I had no idea what that meant. What does "nut" mean? It turns out it's the Russian technical slang for "freehub body" (the part that juts out of the wheel and has grooves on it, to install a set of sprockets).
A set of sprokets is "cassette" in English.
So, basically, to bring by bicycle's suspension back to life, I had to gently tap the freehub, the part of it that bears the sprockets.

@CowperKettle Sounds like you're using the wrong lubricant on your freehub.

11:05 PM
@Robusto Could be so, or maybe it is filled with dirt
Yes, I already read that I can dismantle the freehub, clean it and put new oil inside.
I first should buy a couple of tools for dismantling it.

11:24 PM
I did not specifically put any kind of lubricant in there. I guess it comes with a preset amount of a lubricant, filled at the factory.
