@Mitch The way adults behave, we do need re-education camps
Somewhere to crush their spirits and lower their self-confidence so they don't decide their 100-character memo is smarter than what doctors and NASA engineers say.

Would a question requesting suggestions and/or lists of important works within a topic be off-topic here?
15:41
It could be ‘What are some important non-academic works where suicide is a central topic’, further specified to be either written by English-speaking writers or that otherwise had a pronounced influence on English literature. E.g. John Donne’s Biathanatos or Goethe’s Die Leiden des jungen Werther which was highly influential on all European literature during its time.
@CannedMan Do you mean literary topics?
@CannedMan probably not a good fit for ELU (too. opinionatd?)
Spring Awakening has -a- suicide (it's not central, but it is an important part of the work)
also German
and late 19thc so may be too late for you
The Bell Jar is about falling into severe mental health difficulties but the author died by suicide a month after publication so it has a lot of aura of suicide around the work.
Romeo and Juliet? OK that's not central, but it sure tops off the whole show.
Hamlet? Ophelia is not central but it's a big deal.
Google is telling me over and over again 'The Awakening' by Kate Chopin.
@CannedMan "The Little Prince" comes to mind. Though maybe that's French. Cheerful topic, BTW.

@FaheemMitha What?
The Little Prince is basically a kid friendly suicide note?
jaw drops
@Mitch There's a suicide theme, I think. But opinions might vary.

The Lord of the Rings: a rich guy with a sword and a sash, owns people
Le Seigneur des Anneaux: a feudal land owner, rides a horse, owes the King some people
El Señor de los Anillos: owns a house, maybe two, avoids taxes
Der Herr der Ringe: pays rent on time, sits to pee, has been to Graceland and Disneyworld

@Mitch That is what I suspected.
@Mitch And yes, topics addressed by literature, topics of literature.
@CowperKettle Thanks for the tip! I will certainly have a look at it.
@FaheemMitha Yes, indeed it is. (Sarcasm, never!) It is a rather challenging topic to be studying, but it has its rewards.
@FaheemMitha I will take a look at The Little Prince when I get a chance. Thanks for the tip!
