Undoubtedly the pronunciation was influenced by such words as Heinz, heinie, heist and height.

Offhand I can't think of any words besides heinous where initial hei- is pronounced like the word "hey."

Hey, here's a thing. Let's stop referring people back to outdated stuff...and questions with only 2 downvoted answers, for example.
