Still the disparity in the living standards amazes.
But when I was in Moscow this summer, the disparity also amazed me.
Moscow sucks in all financial funds from all the country, and salaries there are several-fold that of small Russian towns.
Federal spending per person is 7 times that of Yekaterinburg, if I recall correctly.
And Yekaterinburg itself is an oasis of wealth in the region.
Going 100 km any direction in a bus or on a train will bring you to places where people are lucky to earn half of what people in Yekaterinburg earn.
