@ledonter IME, grandparents (if your parents are deaf), Sesame Street (and the like--School House Rock, etc.) and peers probably, lots of interactions with people.
@Mitch I would've listed all of Roget's damns too, but it said God/god- a couple of times, and I'm not going there...this close to the end and all...it seems foolhardy at this point.
I'm reading the rules on acceptable questions, trying to find the no-proofreading bit because that comes up a lot, I think. I can't find it for some reason; can anyone give me a link? TY.
"Checking a text is proof-reading." Is this correct with the hyphen, the way it's written on this site? I didn't think so, but I'm still unsure after researching it.
Whoa ... IBM is buying Red Hat for $35 billion. $34 billion ... for a company that gives away their product. Sure, there's a lot of maintenance revenue, but damn ...
Hey, what do to if a question is asking about something so simple you feel it should probably be on ELL? Like this one: english.stackexchange.com/questions/470564/… Does that belong here?
The Museum.
The History of Political Police and State Security Agencies of Russia.
Is it Ok for the board with the name of this museum? (Can we write "The .Museum" or "Museum"?)
@KannE haha...he has a list and he's checking it twice.
If you really mean it when you say 'Goddammit' and he does the deed (the damning that is) then it's not in vain.
So when you get past St Peter (he's literally the gatekeeper), go directly to God's office and when he brings up your recent 'blasphemy' issue, just turn it around and ask him why he didn't do what you asked. Put it on him, it's his lack of action which rendered your words empty.
Then ask him about beetles. There are so many different kinds. Why does he love beetles so much? Then come back and tell us.
> Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.
Oh FFS. Of course Schröder. She "won" against him by a sliver of a percent point.
Schröder was the best chancellor Germany ever had. Some doubted him at the time, but history has proven him right already. Without what he's done, Germany wouldn't exist today. That's what even Merkel flat-out admits today.
Meanwhile she's been a sitting duck for 9 years, some joke for longer. So it shall be quite interesting to see how things pan out now that she's taking up that role officially.
@Cerberus no.
@Cerberus if you don't know that, you have no business saying he sucks.
He was an activist for pay raises, which the army did not appreciate. He even plotted to throw molotov cocktails at government buildings over that issue. And his superiors said he just sucked as an officer.
I actually needed to try the latest Firefox just yesterday. Something stopped working in Chrome and I wanted to check if it works in other browsers. So I looked, and there's no Firefox on my system and I said fuck it I'm not installing it. They probably don't even have a version that runs on 32-bit.
You know, when I was like nineteen, I used to have five or six banking accounts. All at different banks. Maybe seven. Credit cards, too. Shares and bonds. And then very slowly and very gradually I got rid of it all one by one by one. Until I had just one banking account. And that's the one I kept.
And five years later they actually tried to kick me out, after getting bought out by Murdoch or something. And I was like lol, where you want me to go, Deutsche Bank. Nah thanks I'm fine I'm staying. Talk to you again in two years.
> New checking accounts were announced in September. Citi's basic banking account charges $8 monthly, which can be avoided by completing five or more transactions a month including direct deposit of any amount,
@Cerberus reminds me of the time I said "a drywall", which is what Americans say on Reddit, and then Americans in this room tried to tell me that that's Unamerican.
One, by unchecking a box, you can make fonts appear differently on most websites, the box that says allow sites to use their own fonts instead of your selection.
Two, you can set it to launch in private mode easily in the settings, but in Chrome you need to set the incognito flag, and that does not even work for HTML offline pages you click on whose history it still saves.
My desk at work is like that, too. A single pile of mess. When I ask a colleague to find something, they spend a week digging through all their furniture. When they ask me to find something, I reach into the single pile on my desk, and there it is. Everything is in that pile. You don't have to look. It's all in there. All of it.
@Cerberus I considered getting the 2, and it was like one trillion euro so I said fuck it. And that was just a couple months ago. And now they're at 3 already?
This is comparatively harder to read now. The left is the old site, the right is the new:
Notice how much darker and smaller the text is now! You dropped the x-height by a whole bunch and picked a much dark typeface. Why? The smaller x-height means you’re now cramming even more let...
My friend listened to the flower song over 200 times, which is why I decided to do the song for her @RegDwigнt. She thinks my current version is better than last week's version too, lol. I think the current one is good enough. I am happy with it now.
