20:00
@Gigili What, you start speaking poor English and suddenly sports injuries get better?
Wait..I was totally the opposite wrong. Most people say /a na nas/ and only backwoods southerners say /a na na/. Also, Belgians.
ELU in a nutshell.
@Robusto Yogi Berra lived to the age of 90. Just sayin.
@RegDwigнt What? Do you think NonAnanas have all the answers?
er... questions?
20:06
There's an election taking place in ELL right now.
Or should I say, ELLection.
That is gay.
@RegDwigнt That's a Chinese erection, right?
Ugh.
20:08
@RegDwigнt Which reminds me of a political joke...
@Robusto so many people keep wondering why the Asians swap Ls and Rs, so few people keep protesting the Germans swapping Vs and Ws.
Jul 16 '15 at 11:57, by Robusto
@RegDwigнt Looks like George Michael after a night out with Elton John.
They have both sounds in their language. But when they speak English, they swap them. What the fuck.
@RegDwigнt No, it's their cheating on emission standards that makes Germans swap their VWs.
Ba-dum-tsss.
Hey, that's how you sell twice the number of cars.
20:10
Why did Scott Pruitt (US cabinet member, head of EPA) have to resign for having staff visit hotels to pick up skin lotion for him? Because it violated the emollients clause
@RegDwigнt It was lying right there. Couldn't help mahself.
@Mitch when you have to begin your joke with a lengthy explanation of what the joke will be about, you are living a very sad life.
Look at Rob. He didn't have to explain who VW was.
@RegDwigнt He figures an emollient is a preparation that softens the skin, so why wouldn't it work on jokes?
@RegDwigнt It's worse than that. I'm barely able to remember someone else's long set up for the joke.
Just learn to not set up your jokes.
Ketch up.
20:12
@RegDwigнt I don't know who Scott Pruitt is, so it's a good explanation for myself.
@RegDwigнt So ... never, ever do a knock-knock joke.
@Mitch I still don't know who he is.
And I still haven't heard a joke about him.
@RegDwigнt I prove my point
or maybe someone else's
Someone else sucks balls.
It's true.
@Robusto I will never ever do a knock-knock joke for, uh fuck, what was my going rate. $3000, I believe?
I've been on hiatus for way too long.
@RegDwigнt Asians keep wondering why Europeans are so uptight over liquids.
@RegDwigнt I only know one knock knock joke and its not a knock knock joke.
20:15
Apr 29 at 2:30, by Robusto
What a gyp.
Wait... I know three of them
@Mitch Only a European would think that Asians ever think of Europeans at all.
that are not knock knock jokes
@Robusto yeah I don't mind being a gyp for $3000.
@Mitch don't get your knock knocks in a twist.
@RegDwigнt I don't get my knock knock jokes confused with my lightbulb jokes
I have more light bulb jokes that are not light bulb jokes than I have knock knock jokes that are not knock knock jokes.
20:19
This sounds like you're setting up a math problem
@Mitch How many Microsoft engineers does it take to screw in a light bulb? None, they just declare darkness the standard!
That joke was funnier 20 years ago.
This discourse might need use some bar raising.
Hold on, I think I am up to the task.
A man walks down the street, it's a street in a strange world, maybe it's the Third World, maybe it's his first time around.
He doesn't speak the language, he holds no currency. He is a foreign man. He is surrounded by the sound, the sound. Cattle in the marketplace. Scatterlings and orphanages.
He looks around, around. He sees angels in the architecture, spinning in infinity.
He says amen, and hallelujah!
If you'll be my bodyguard, I will be your long-lost pal.
I can call you Betty, and Betty when you call me you can call me Al.
NOU.
You know for a fact that you can call me Al.
It was the myth of fingerprints. I've seen 'em all and, man, they're all the same.
These are the days of miracle and wonder.
20:25
Paul Simon writes poetry that just boggles the mind. And the Nobel Prize goes to Bob Dylan. LOLOL.
inorite
All along along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations
That song is so good it has no right to exist.
This world does not deserve it.
@RegDwigнt I've tried to write songs. I've written like three songs in my entire life, and the best is pretty mediocre. And then I hear a Paul Simon song and I realize what he's telling me is "No, Rob, I got this. You don't hafta do nuttin."
"Don't need to be coy, Roy, just listen to me."
Just get on the bus, Gus.
"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America
And then:
If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
My sweet imagination
Everything looks worse in black and white
20:42
You guys are old
No, we just have taste.
I'm still firmly in my thirties.
@Mitch OMG you English so well.
@RegDwigнt haha. Point made
And ohai @Mr.ShinyandNew安宇
hi! I'm still in my thirties too, but not for much longer
20:43
Ohai, indeed!
What are you doing here and not on my YouTube LEGO channel.
I need every click I can muster.
you have a youtube lego channel?
is it JangBricks?
Yes, and they tell me I can only monetize the shit out it once people have watched 4000 hours of it.
@RegDwigнt pfft. taste that's been soured by years of wishing you had a lawn for kids to be on so you could yell at them
I'll click it.
20:44
real art, real poetry:
Does it count if I have it play in the background?
> I like those Balenciagas, the ones that look like socks
I like going to the jeweler, I put rocks all in my watch
I like texts from my exes when they want a second chance
I like proving n****s wrong, I do what they say I can't
Come back to me with your poet who can rhyme 'socks' and 'watch'
Also the ethereal sublimity of 'Balenciaga'.
That's some James Joyce makin-up shit out of five languages right there
I think I can produce 4000 hours worth of content just by screenshotting my conversations with Mitch for a day.
@RegDwigнt YOu're wasting your bit rate.
20:46
Like, if we can watch it, why shouldn't others.
You so old, I bet you send images through SMS
ha ha ha ha
@Cerberus sure.
But keep in mind that 4000 hours means 11 hours a day for a full year.
And I only have like ten seconds worth of videos. That's a lot of looping you've just signed up for.
@RegDwigнt subbed
OMG I am famous.
Ohh it has the animals and how you make them.
20:48
They follow me in the Canadas now.
That's nice.
By the way, it would be nice if the crocodile could wag its tail sideways.
It will have a ton of other shit quite soon, if I ever stop talking to you and start shooting and recording.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 What is the most likely color of the bear?
I spent three hours earlier today trying to get a good angle on the violin.
it ain't white
20:49
That must've looked strange to the neighbors.
Your neighbors are Asian, so they don't care
Hey, I didn't know the one about Russian was actually by you.
I only watched it embedded.
I was in the garden with the violin, and since I don't have a camera or a camera stand, I had my smartphone and my music stand with me instead. And two chairs of various sizes. And an old ammunition crate from WWII for additional height for filming from above.
I have a single video up on my youtube channel, but it IS lego-related.
So I'd stack the ammo crate and the music stand and the chairs and then sit on this contraption play five notes, jump up, rearrange, rinse repeat. For three hours.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 there. I have just doubled your number of subscribers.
20:51
@RegDwigнt I have subscribers!?
You had two, now you have four.
I resisted subscribing to you using our company's account. That'd be five.
Prepare to be disappointed, as I have no intention of posting more videos.
I am subscribed to like 120 people, I have enough stuff to watch.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I don't think it should be hard though, you seem to have found a niche that's a) unoccupied and b) easy to produce an hour worth of content for every week or so.
@RegDwigнt yeah I did consider it, breifly, but gods is it ever boring to make those videos
I made the video as a joke for Kit
and others for whom ASMR is a real thing
Yeah but thing is, you have to build them sets anyway, so might as well film it.
20:55
Lately I've been building fewer sets and more mocs
OH.
Now these you must post somewhere.
They're not good mocs though
Like, I posted a bunch of images in various places years ago, and every couple months I keep getting contacted by someone writing a book or developing an app or just wanting to build them.
I'm literally resting on my laurels.
Anyway, as my loyal subscriber, you of course get an extra treat. A super duper look behind the scenes of what's next.
Yay.
What's a moc?
@Cerberus "my own creation". As opposed to an official LEGO set.
21:02
Ah, OK.
Does it help if I set the speed to 2x?
It actually sounds kind of interesting, playing your Osip piece at 2x.
@Cerberus I don't know how that works.
Quite virtuose.
@Cerberus oh lemme try.
Which one of the two?
Is that yours?
And that is not worthy, how?
Like, do you even realize what the top post on /r/LegoCreations is right now?
@RegDwigнt Both! Various parts sound somewhat nervous, and one longs for some pauses, but some bits actually sounds cool.
no, I don't reddit
Neither do I.
Wowie, I don't know what that is, but it looks scary.
21:06
But I had to yesterday, to get my stuff out there.
Top post. Titled "my son's time machine".
I hope his son is like 3.
Well. I'm bringing my moc to my LUG's show on the weekend, and if I like how it looks compared to what my fellow much better builders are building, then I'll maybe post it more widely
Do it.
I am pleased with how I managed to attach the blue Dimensions pieces though.
The basic ones are easy, but the printed ones are trickier
Also I was surprised at how few 4x4 round plate ring pieces I had
Yeah I ended up skipping Dimensions completely so I don't know anything about those pieces actually.
I kinda had another Dark Age for the past 15 months or so.
21:10
@eabdavis I hate it when I sneeze and then suddenly can’t turn my head to the right.
they're fancy RFID tags in trans-clear "bricks".
@Mitch the struggle is real
I had to convert to a standing workstation because I'm too old to sit all day
It's like software, but made of meat
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I don't think I could bear a standing desk. I'd be leaning all over it all the time.
just raise it high enough that there's no inclination to lean
I'd lie down underneath it
bluetooth keyboard and mouse, project the screen on the whole wall
@Cerberus lol I was typing "I think I could actually play that at that speed", but while I was typing that, a different video started playing in the background, still on 2x:
Fuck me, I can't play that.
21:13
I'll get one of those min fMRI 'thought' interfaces, so I don't have to even move my fingers
float in an isolation tank
take acid and upload to the cloud
@RegDwigнt Would be cool, though.
I was thinking about writing something like Osip on double speed. My harmonies are very Chopinesque anyway, so if I could just come up with a bunch of embellishments like he did, it would sound nice. But so far I wasn't successful at doing that.
appologies for the crappy animation, I am using a smartphone camera
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 see. Why is that not on YouTube right now.
And it took you half a minute to make that? I would need like an hour. I suck.
21:16
lol it's in no way up to my standards of excellence or quality.
Your standards don't matter shit. Your viewers' do.
And viewers on YouTube can't even spell standard's.
If I wanted to do that for sharing with people in a more serious manner (more serious than this chat) I'd have to use a tripod
but making the animation was just a few clicks in Google Photos
Yeah I might need to get one of those after all. The music stand kinda sucks. Also I need it for the music.
I can't even get off my ass to write a blog post about Lego let alone make videos.
Anyway. Speaking of making things. Time to go make dinner. nice seeing y'all again.
Blog posts are hard.
Videos are easier.
I wish I'd found out earlier.
Take care. Bon appetit.
Make a video of the dinner!
21:21
Man it takes custard forever to bake at 300 degrees.
If you do it, I will write the music for it. That's a promise.
My water bath probably didn't start out warm enough.
Maybe I should up it to 325. I know better than 350.
Or just be patient.
Not my style.
@RegDwigнt That would be a cool idea.
@tchrist Or just go Celcius instead of Fahrenheit.
@Cerberus yeah problem is, I would have to play like three times the number of notes.
@RegDwigнt I'd have to turn on the autoclean lock on the oven.
21:23
That's a lot of potential screw-ups and re-recordings.
Hmm this should be possible.
It just takes a long time.
Oh no, not Cerberus with his programming.
Now we have to go take a shower again.
I think I remember making crème brûlée at 140 degrees.
With the ramekins placed in a bowl/pan/whatever with a layer of water in it.
It worked fine.
Like, this I am writing right now. If you just take the melody and replace every note with five, you've got Chopin alright.
But I can't be arsed. Because that's work.
Jan 9 '15 at 15:40, by RegDwigнt
I have a job and a hobby. I don't want two jobs and no hobbies.
@Cerberus Patience, then. 285 is even less than 300.
21:30
Fuck me that C sharp at the end is out of tune. And I tuned the instrument just four months ago like.
@Cerberus If you start with "cold" water it takes a lot longer.
@RegDwigнt Not bad at all!
The beginning did sound somewhat familiar.
@tchrist Yes.
I followed a recipe and it worked fine.
@tchrist By the way, did you know that regex was much faster than really parsing an html page?
It all sounds familiar. That's why it connects with the listener. That's how music works.
At least, so it seems to be in my case.
@tchrist I thought cold water boiled faster?
21:31
@Cerberus Of course.
@RegDwigнt Quite so. And that's also why I still can't get used to atonal music.
Although, it depends what you're doing and your input set.
@tchrist So I imagine.
I first wrote a regex, because it's easier. And it worked fine.
@RegDwigнt Well, I don't want the water to boil. That's something of the point to cooking custard in a water-bath.
You need the egg proteins to do their thing.

Then I tried to have the xhttmlrequest parse the document as html, then select the dom items I wanted.
21:34
@Cerberus actually when you have like 20 minutes free, you should go watch that video about 12-tone-music that I posted for Rob a couple days ago. I promise you it will boggle your mind. And you will love the sound. But I don't want to spoil why that would be. It's an excellent video.
MUCH slower.
Save it for later.
And do watch it some time.
But I know nothing about music.
It will mean nothing to me.
Musical theory.
I promised you something.
I keep my promises.
I'll keep it in my backlog, then...
21:35
It has 3.3 million views and 85k likes. There's not that many people in the entire world who can even spell the word "theory".
@RegDwigнt What's not to hate about twelvetone?

2 hours later…
23:16
Hm. What is this familiar sound.
Oh, right. It's shit hitting the fan.
@RegDwigнt I don't understand. What is this about?
Our site still looks the same?
23:44
@RegDwigнt I really only like tonal 12-tone music.
Somewhere I have some I wrote.
Meanwhile I have a new saxophone begging me to come home and learn to play it.
