@Mahnax Homework as well, but there is a tunnel and there is an end of it and it is within my field of vision.
By this Friday I should be much better-off.

Good, good. But remember that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Thankfully, you're not Jack, and I'm not, either.

Dang it! You beat me to it. :(
Also, I just sold my $2 SEGA Genesis for $15, so that's nice.

I figured as much.
@timothymh You sold a Genesis‽ gasps
I have a nice little NES and I love it to bits.

@Mahnax Er, yeah...

@timothymh Was it done broke?

10:04 PM
@Mahnax My friends works at a dump and he salvaged an NES someone was throwing away!
That was just a few days ago.

Nasty sounding job, but good find.
They are so fun.

@Mahnax Nope. How would I have gotten money if it was?
@Mahnax Actually that's the same friend who I sold the Genesis to.

@timothymh Some people are into repairing such things.

@Mahnax Plus, I haven't even touched it in four years.
@Mahnax Plus, we don't even have a compatible TV anymore!

@timothymh gasps harder

10:06 PM
@Mahnax What??

@timothymh Shame on you.
Genesises need love and care.

*Geneses

Not four years of neglect.

But I mean what's wrong with selling a Genesis?

@timothymh False.
@timothymh Nothing.

10:08 PM
Look at it this way: it's going to a much better home. PLus I'm $15 better off.
@Mahnax Joke.

@timothymh Good.

@Mahnax Oops, spelled it wrong.

grumbles about capitalization
@timothymh Now you've gone and nullified all of my messages.
I should have waited just a bit longer.

I found it.

What?

10:10 PM
This room, of course.
:)
Can someone tell me how the reputation is scored on this site?

Uh, an upvote for a Q is 5 points, an upvote for an A is 10.
If you downvote someone else's answer, you lose 1 rep.

Wow, people here suck.

Why?

I have a bunch of downvotes ;)

That means you suck, no?
(Joking).
I probably have my fair share as well.

10:12 PM
No, it means that people here are passive aggressive, or something. :P
The downvotes are ridiculous, I've gotten them on questions that were accepted by the asker and were clearly right.

How many do you have? Looking over your user page I see nothing bad thus far.
You have 3 downvotes, ever.

I really hope you're just trolling.

The rep thingy on my home page says I have like 10 -1's
For downvotes
Does that mean they were rescinded?

That's because you downvote other answers.
3 mins ago, by Mahnax
If you downvote someone else's answer, you lose 1 rep.

10:14 PM
Oh, I'm sorry
I didn't see that bit.

It's okay.

That makes sense now.

Hint: the rep/voting works the same way on all sites.

(I always leave a comment that says why I gave the downvote_
The amount given out seems to vary

Except on Meta sites, where they don't change any rep.

10:15 PM
At least, according to the mods on the SciFi area

Except Meta Stack Overflow, which does have a rep/voting system that is the same as everywhere else.

Wow, I really hate YouTube ads.

Same.
I really love SE, so far.

Me too.
I've been on EL&U for about eight months, I think.
I've been active for six or seven.

10:30 PM
@Mahnax OK, full details: I sold a neglected, literally dusty Sega Genesis 1 with one controller, Ms. Pac-Man, and a Game Genie.
@Mahnax Hey, no Zalgo :(
(Dinner.)

@timothymh Aww.
@timothymh Ah OK.

Check out my handiwork: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/doublequote

@Mahnax I'm a wordnerd and a wordsmith, this site is pretty much right up my alley.

@NathanCTresch Very well, carry on.
I speak English every day, this site is right up my alley.

:)
I majored in creative writing, and, also I'm an author

11:01 PM
Oh, cool.
I'm in HS so I don't have a major, heh.
What sort of things have you written?

Fiction
I don't share my pen name, though.
It's not Nathan C. Tresch. :)

Oh, OK.
I don't share my name.

My real name is Nathan C. Tresch

Well, not my last name, at any rate.
My first name is Matthew.

My pen name is a woman's name
;)

11:04 PM
Haha.
tsks

I like myself enough to try to avoid stalkers and weirdos. :P

Hm, are you so sure that you'd get any? ꙭ

No, I'm just paranoid.

Alright.

If I get what I'm working on now published I expect I might be.
It's a fiction story

11:08 PM
Hm, okay.

It's an epic journey and it talks about relativity, a multiverse, the akashic record, quantum holography, time travel

Oh, that sounds interesting. I would read that.

Thanks!

If you need any test subjects before you publish it, well, you know, ahem.

Its sort of ... PKD meets Azimov meets HP Lovecraft
k
Can you give me editorial feedback also?

11:10 PM
What do you mean?
Grammatical things?

Oh, sure.

But mostly I need help with sentances that sound off

@NathanCTresch sentences*

Like, when I go back and edit, sometimes I use a voice that's too distinct from the tone of the words around it

11:11 PM
Yeah, I understand. I would be happy to help.

ANd I don't notice, so, that's the main thing I want to hear about. Yes, I always spell that word wrong. :(
What year in high school are you?

I'm in the first year, which is grade ten here.
I'm in the IB program.

IB?
Where are you from?

Canada.

Q: how much more—question or statement?

zpletan Since this, how much more another[.|?] I would have used a question mark to end that sentence; however, I've seen two different, recent authors end it with a period. Is this type of sentence a question or a statement? I'm assuming that from the answer to this question, the punctuation flows...

Can you please look at that and give feedback? :P
ITs really irritating me.
ESL people are telling me I'm mistaken and downvoting me. :P

11:16 PM
Hmm.
I think one should always use the question mark.

Of course, but, he didn't, and its clear that he was intending it to be a question.
And there are many authoritative sources that say he's correct

So it's a matter of style, it seems.

Yeah.
But, as English is your first language, its clear to you that he's asking a question, yes?

Yeah.

And the . must indicate that he's intending it to be rhetorical.
Thank you :)

11:19 PM
But for ultimate clarity one should use a question mark.
I don't really think the first part of your answer applies, though.
Then again, Shoe's answer does make sense too.
If it's not a question, no question mark is necessary.

Yes?

I dont see how its possible to parse that as anything but a question.
It was written in the late 20th century, not in 1890
And it doesnt use a !
If you can find a place that says an exclamation phrased as a question is both modern and you can use a . with, his answer is okay
But I cant

I hold no opinion yet, I'm just mulling these things over mentally and writing my thoughts here.

Aye, and I'm being the voice of rigor. :P

11:25 PM
Okay, I have decided. Those sentences are questions and should be punctuated as such, rhetorical or not.

No one is questioning that

Then what is the issue here?

Although, I'd say that since I linked 4 university level style guides that say to use a . in place of a ?
That the author may have gone to a university like that, and uses a different style
My point still stands, he was intending them to be rhetorical questions

It's rather obvious to me that they are rhetorical questions.

The poster was asking if they were questions or not, and the answer is yes, that they are rhetorical questions.
Aye.
SO, my answer is right :)

11:29 PM
Shoe is saying that the questions are exclamatory, but I can't see how you can exclaim a question like that.

In 1890 you could.
Informally

Well, it's not 1890.

But, the author was clearly using a formal tone, and, it's a modern writing
Yeah, neither of the conditions apply.
Can you upvote :D

I did.

YAY!
Thanks.

11:31 PM
Mhm.

Its really irritating here sometimes... I'm trying to help these people with their english and they're like, downvoting me and upvoting stuff with no links to any kind of authority
:P

You'll be okay.

There, there.

Also, that dude JR literally ripped off my answer.
:P

11:32 PM
Not really.
He provided the same information from a different source, as opposed to stealing your links/info and making a similar answer.
So he posted an answer saying the same thing, but that's not a good reason to downvote him.
Ah, whatever.

You think?

I do.

I can take it back
Okay

The hover text over the downvote button says "This answer is not useful." By downvoting him, you are theoretically downvoting yourself (if he is saying the same things as you are).
Anyways, you have my upvote.

Well, yeah, I'm pretty sure that in SE duplicate answers are frowned upon, support for a dupe should be put in the comments for that answer

11:38 PM
I sort of approved your edit.
The emphasis on or needs to stay to make sure his original intent isn't edited away.
Dinner, bye.
