9:14 PM
So much evil racism.

?

9:48 PM
@Cerb: This anything like your life?
@tchrist Evil racism as opposed to virtuous racism?

@Robusto That does look very Dutch!
Although much was not to my liking.

@AndrewLeach Nickname Jay Anus. /nod
@Cerberus You'd rather be having tea at the Savoy every afternoon, yes?
High Tea, that is. At the Savoy.

The Savoy is a very sleazy bar here that's open until 6. So yes.
We used to go there when all other bars had closed.
@Robusto Your Dutchman is a football fan.

Haha. It's posh in London.

His floor is plastic wood.
He has black things.
He lives in a dreary building in a suburb.

9:54 PM
Well, what do you expect from Utrecht?

I have lived in Utrecht!

Yet now you live in Amsterdam ... that is a comment in itself.

Although the house I lived it was declared "uninhabitable" by the firemen shortly after (not my doing).

I guess you showed 'em, huh?

I like Utrecht.
Look at that former cathedral.

A tornado went right through it in the seventeenth century.
The ruins became a gay cruising area in the 18th century.
@Robusto Okay, okay, I like Amsterdam better, because Utrecht is more provincial.

@Cerberus Wait, so Nederlands invented gay?

That's why "Utrechtenaar" still means "homo".

hahaha

@Robusto Something tells me it was invented slightly earlier.

9:57 PM
Oh right. Greece!
Hellas.

And also prehistoric man, no doubt.
Apes.
In 1730, seventy homosexuals were executed at Utrecht.

wow
Martin Luther did that?

Calvin, yes.
Calvin is worse than Luther...

lighting the way to intolerance

Calvinist Utrechters also complained about the homosexual acts performed by the various foreign delegations in the city in 1713, when the Peace of Utrecht was negotiated.
Much later, the term Utrechtenaar apparently also became a billiards term, for hitting a ball "from behind".

10:02 PM
See, America is like Utrecht these days. 50 dead gays in Florida this year ...

That was horrible, but it was not supported by the population!
And weren't there various straights among the dead?

Dunno. But a lot of the population support that stuff.

Death?
Surely that is a tiny part.
The Utrechtenaren were executed by the state.
Times have improved!

Basically they're called Republicans ...

Naaah.
They're not so extreme.
Look how many Republicans now support gay rights.
And how religion is declining.

10:09 PM
I guess you're an "ass is half full" kind of guy.
Sorry ... you know I can't resist a pun ...

Quite.
We may hope for perfection, but not instantaneous perfection.

And yet still we desire it.
ok, ttyl, gotta go

10:50 PM
There are too many people who would still vote for the Republican "candidate" even if he punched out the debate moderator on live television. It’s gone far beyond anything even unreasonable now.

11:07 PM
Punched out??

11:21 PM
@Cerberus I presume you're not seeking a definition.
Orange people are beyond the pale.

11:40 PM
@tchrist I would not believe you if you said he became violent on television.
So that can't be what you meant.

No, I did not say he had.
I said that it would not matter to some people if he were to do so.
There comes a point in a conflict where people have so demonized the other side that their own side is literally incapable of doing any wrong, that nothing their side could possibly do is too far, too evil, too much. That's what leads to the mob going along with atrocities.
