My guess is OP was a better-informed denizen of SE than they presented themselves to be (good use of markdown anyway, and who the heck knows about fav stars on day 1?), and was aiming for a lot of votes, in either direction, to hit the HNQ sidebar. Smelled to me of meatpuppetry either way.

Chat is weird. Of course, it was likely to be, 'cause I was expecting it to be IRC.

It's also kinda annoying that on the iOS app, the default way to launch it blocks use of the regular interface.

I think plugging one's post to friends is allowed, though sometimes questionable. Don't we all do it, now and then, post a link to on of our posts in some SE chat room?

I mean I sent out the link to a question I asked about a word I pronounce weirdly, but I did so to prove I'm not as crazy as I sound, not to gather votes

No? In never in chat. I'll post links to a question or answer I've posted if it's topical (illustrates something I want to illustrate on that context). But that's super rare. Usually some non-Dan post is more illustrative

@Cerberus yes, of course, but people here only post good posts ;). Votes on posts affect the perceived usefulness of a post, which is why voting rings are against the rules. they inflate people's perceptions of posts when the post might not warrant it
