Pies.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 it's here!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 He is Dutch. You can ignore him.
statistically speaking I'm not paying attention to most of the people
@Cerberus Is it? To tell your friends to sign up and star your question, to cancel out any downvotes they see? My guess is OP was a better-informed denizen of SE than they presented themselves to be (good use of markdown anyway, and who the heck knows about fav stars on day 1?), and was aiming for a lot of votes, in either direction, to hit the HNQ sidebar. Smelled to me of meatpuppetry either way.
@Demisemihemidemisemiquaver google would say that you're using it wrong then. just search for it... is what they'd say.
21:02
Chat is weird. Of course, it was likely to be, 'cause I was expecting it to be IRC.
It's also kinda annoying that on the iOS app, the default way to launch it blocks use of the regular interface.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 that's not a thing! That's something some one said once that just aint so!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 but nobody uses pice as the plural of pie :(
If it were one douse, two dice we wouldn't have this problem.
21:08
personally I can't wait for singular dice to become standard.
singular lice is a ...
so long as the plural remains dice as well, I don't mind
nit
ha ha! +1! ha ha ha ha h ha ah ah ah hhah ha ha ha
@DanBron there was only ever 1 upvote
I don't think newbs can vote? Or is that only vote down?
yeah. you need 15 reps to vote up
I can't remember now, and I'm not concerned about it, cause the post was obliterated
21:12
@DanBron Oh, it depends on the instructions given.
If he just posted a link telling his friends, "look, I posted this interesting question! Go vote for it!", I think that's allowed?
I dunno. Isn't that meatpuppetry?
votes should reflect the quality of the answer, not the person who posted it
(or the quesiton)
I think plugging one's post to friends is allowed, though sometimes questionable. Don't we all do it, now and then, post a link to on of our posts in some SE chat room?
I mean I sent out the link to a question I asked about a word I pronounce weirdly, but I did so to prove I'm not as crazy as I sound, not to gather votes
But you no doubt knew that, by posting that link somewhere, you were more likely to receive extra votes.
21:15
@Cerberus sure. the difference is "look at my question" vs "vote up my question"
Maybe...but actually, I think "vote up my question" isn't even "illegal".
Especially not for Meta-posts.
didnt occur to me. I emailed it to my friends (who had mocked me) and my mom and sister in law. I'm pretty sure they'd never even heard of SE before
Don't you ever post a link to your post in a comment on SE?
Or in chat?
I can't bring myself to care about votes as much as apparently everyone else in the universe does. Seems weirdly OCD to me.
@Cerberus not exactly, but obeying is. that's the beginnings of a voting ring
21:17
I don't care much about reputation either. But I know what will happen if I post a link somewhere.
You'll sing a different story when rep is converted to airline flight miles.
Also you'll tell a different song.
No? In never in chat. I'll post links to a question or answer I've posted if it's topical (illustrates something I want to illustrate on that context). But that's super rare. Usually some non-Dan post is more illustrative
@MattE.Эллен I think there is a fine line. Have you never clicked on an answer someone posted in chat and then voted for it?
@DanBron It's rare, but it happens?
and then airline flight miles converted to bitcoin
@Cerberus Yeah, I think I posted a link to Mari-Lou once to illustrate how the questions I'm proud of get no attention and the ones I consider throw-away get voted into the stratosphere
21:19
Right. And maybe you got some extra votes after posting that link.
@Cerberus yes, of course, but people here only post good posts ;). Votes on posts affect the perceived usefulness of a post, which is why voting rings are against the rules. they inflate people's perceptions of posts when the post might not warrant it
and then bitcoin converted to game room tokens
and then game room tokens converted into 'winning' tickets
I've also broadly shared a link to a post I used to poll people (honestly push-poll) about converting comment-answers to answers proper
which are then redeemable at the counter for a rainbow colored pencil.
@MattE.Эллен My point is not that hardcore voting rings aren't bad. Just that there is a fine line, and that it's ultimately hard to decide what's still permissible.
21:20
It annoys me when people nag me to do that, so I wanted feedback on what they really meant when hey tell me to do so
which is a commodity... in bulk
@Cerberus that's fair. +1
@DanBron So now you're telling me you're the boss of a voting ring OMG.
You caught me
votes for Dan
21:21
it's OK if they're your friends. not OK if they're skeevy
Jesus chat is terrible in mobile safari
@Mitch is that how they made rainbow road?!
if both, which is likely the case, it's up to judgement
@MattE.Эллен Stop it, you're making me look suspect, with your vote!
@DanBron I love Jesus chat
Chat is fine in Chrome on Android.
Not that I would ever speak ill of Apple...
@Mitch now that is push-polling
@DanBron +1
@MattE.Эллен ?? You just made that up. What is rainbow road?
I just fell into your 'rainbow road' meme trap
wow
i've never watched that before
I watched that whole thing
21:26
Rainbow Road is a track in the various Mario Kart games
if that wasn't apparent from the the video
I didn't realise it was "a place you go when you die"
Anybody who is familiar with that track knows it is a place you go to die.
@Mitch Jesus uses AOL.
He discovered it in 1993 and ever since then ... Eternal Sunday.
@Cerberus SFF chat is all shameless plugging. That and taco pics.
aha! one email sent. my day is complete.
peace out.
carrots in.
yo yo yo
wassup bros.
21:35
@Mazura See?
@MετάEd Whatever you hear the modem dial-up sound, a little tiny part of that is actually the sound of Christ getting Crucified. True fact.
@PeterDavidCarter-Poulsen Telephone to glory, oh what joy divine, / I can feel the spirit moving down the line.
@MετάEd Needs me a royal Jesus telephone.
That's it.
I bet if Jesus posted on EL&U he'd totally get downvoted. And Mary Magdalene and that however many Marys he had, instead of washing his feet in vinegar, they'd all be staring him posts, cost they wouldn't have enough rep to upvote.
Yeah, I'm totally like Jesus man. I feel his pain.
21:48
I wonder if God had like a really baller day coming up with all the fetishes.

Llamas. Totally a thing now!
@PeterDavidCarter-Poulsen Well yeah. All those requests to help translate Aramaic into King's English.
I like being able to swear here. Let's leave the god stuff alone, shall we?
22:19
@Mazura Too late. I got god stuff all over my shoes.
22:46
@MετάEd Lulz. Tell that to Wilma.
It seems American companies will still be allowed to produce champaign, despite what Europe wants.
And Europe said it really wanted to forbid them from doing so, or there won't be a TTIP.
So encouraging news for all of us.

A: Difference between Whiskey and Bourbon?

MazuraCorn. The differences between those drinks ("made for U.S. consumption"), and the difference between whiskey and bourbon are two separate questions (the former has been well answered). Beverage manufacturers can hem and haw all they want about the nomenclature of their products, but that does n...

Consider yourself plugged ;)
See the other answers there, as to why it's regarding.
Ah, so America has similar rules!
@Mazura Oh I get it, corn as in maize.
Interesting, I didn't know you could brew alcoholic beverages from that...then again, one can probably do so from any kind of edible plant.
23:50
@Cerberus Oh totally. You can't label your 'American cheese' but rather 'American cheese-like chemical extrusion by-product'. It's a law
@Mazura My understanding is that God is merely a collective instance of all individual consciousness. I see no reason there would be a denial of swearing.
Also, in the US it's spelled champagne
weird I know
the town is called 'Champaign'. I don't think it's fair to complain given that a lot is not pronounced in any case.
@Mazura at some point, taboo words were actually considered taboo here.
anything goes in quotes
but it's a leaky abstraction, so a little profanity squeaks out
