@its_me I think this norm is less strong when relationships are more equal, and it is influenced a great deal by society. I can think of several happy opposite-sex partnerships I know of where the partners are approximately the same height, or the male partner may even be shorter, but I also can think of more "traditional" people for whom this would have been a problem.
