interest lose?
OK, I know what to do with the translator
kills him with one bullet
@Mitch Noted
@skullpetrol Hmmm, guess I am

Cool

@Gigili There are all sorts of words in the dictionary and legal formations of words that really just aren't used.
all those instances (in the first couple pages at least) are stilted, awkward, technical uses.
You would think that it would make it perfect for legalese then.
I am not a lawyer, so I don't really know but 'causer' just sounded really bizarre and awkward in that passage, however 'grammatical' it might be.

5:15 PM
Yeah, I agree.

5:35 PM
There needs to be a score on the front page of ELU that says how many active questions there are that are SWR -and- are a thinly veiled frat boy/brogrammer asking about some sex thing. "What's a word for a woman who blah blah?"

6:07 PM
@Mitch blah-blah byatch, obviously.

6:28 PM
It is time for you to bury your hatchets

6:54 PM
@Gigili ...in the back of someone's neck
Review for local BBQ restaurant: "Great ethnic white people food, support them because they're dying off"

> About 34,000 cancer deaths a year worldwide are attributable to diets high in processed meats, according to figures cited by the panel.
In other words, 0.000485% of the global population dies from cancer attributable to eating processed meats.
Call it 1 person per 2 million of population? How is this a grave danger? It's not even a rounding error.

statistics are made up

crl
73.2% of the time yes

8:23 PM
That too

@crl 44.5% of the time people give that answer, but 86.75% of these are full of shit.
And 80% of the world population loves bacon.

Q: Why do people argue about silly things

MillieThis is so silly why do this you are making yourself look stupid

Trolling.

@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 That's right, rub it in . . .

Here's the thing, though.
a) could you get 800,000+ people to show up on 1-2 days' notice to anything not related to sports?
b) could they assemble peaceably?

You couldn't get me to show up. I don't care what we won, I'm not going near a crowd like that. No way, nohow.

B-b-b-but history.

History will be made again tomorrow. Go home, get a good buzz on, and drift off to sleep. You'll thank me in the morning.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 BTW, sent you an IM just now on a different topic.

Flagged "serious problems". Technically it's an answer, just an unsalveagable one.

@Robusto Pareto law

@Robusto No it doesn't.
So something happened in Kansas?

Mods gone?

They won the World Series of baseball @MετάEd

@skullpetrol Who'd they beat?

10:45 PM
NY Mets
New York fans are known to be pretty nasty about losing.

Screw New York and their nastiness.

@skullpetrol Oh, well then it wasn't an official World Series.

They have a lot of band wagons to jump on with their 6 major league sports franchises.
Yup @MετάEd the winningest team in all pro sports history.

@tchrist Just us rads.

hi quick question: a ubuntu or an ubuntu computer?

10:57 PM
@Aequitas How do you usually pronounce "ubuntu"?

Nothing beats Vancouver and their two Stanley cup riots after losing @Robusto

like ewbuntoo

you?

Then it would be "a ewbuntoo". But if you were to pronounce it "oo-boon-too" (which is the original pronunciation), it would be "an oo-boon-too".

11:00 PM
why? e is a vowel too tho?

But it's the sound that counts :-)

@Aequitas Am I right in thinking you actually say something like "yew-bun-too"?

For a/an

11:14 PM
@skullpetrol Well, you're forgetting about the Blackhawks.
You don't need to riot when you win.

True dat

@MετάEd i say ew like rhymes with cue, idk how to actually say it, i've only seen it written

@Aequitas If you say it like "you" or "yew", then it begins with a consonant "y" and it will be most natural to use "a". If you say it like "oo", then it begins with a vowel and it will be most natural to use "an".

@MετάEd okay so what to use if it's written? since it's a made up word (that's usually only written) the pronunciation is ambigous

@Aequitas It's not made up from scratch. Wikipedia says its from a Bantu word in South Africa.
If the word is made up though, you just have to decide how you would pronounce it

11:32 PM
oh okay didn't know that, so if it's made up I can do whatever I want?

Yes.
Pronunciation is not written in stone.
