Q: Who, what, where, when, why, how. Why so many "Wh"s?

ChrisWerryJournalists are taught to ask who, what, where, when, why, and how. If you answer all of these chances are you have the bones of a story. Why do all these words, with the exception of "how" start with "wh"? Is it coincidence or did they all originate from the same word? Perhaps it was a grunt typ...

four offensive/abusive answers^^
If anyone is here.
gone now - thanks

115 x Enlightened
You only need one.
I don't need any. But I have 115.
Once you reach 100k, you should follow me and delete your account.
It's not likely that I will follow you in anything.
Anyway, you never got to 100K. Nor even close.
Yeah, only one fifth of you.
19:33
But that's history.
Yeah. I will probably delete this account too one day.
I think that will happen later this year.
Why? To call attention to yourself?
Nope. Strange that people keep saying that.
@Robusto That's a lot
The Skeet of ELU
It seems that everything weird I do is to call attention to myself.
I just do weird things, that's all.

Ah yes. The Enlightened badge. Note how @Robusto is so cool, he has more Enlightened badges than you have badges.
I have only 12 on my top site lol

But that's history.
Who do people study history? They should study the future instead.
@Mitch History being made every day.
@ABeautifulMind History has the advantage of actual existence, unlike the future.
Now that you have enlightenment, you should be trying to get negative enlightenment, to level the playing field, to balancing it all out, to unmixing the metaphors
19:39
But now that I think about it, history has actually happened, but does that mean it exists? Hmm . . .
Hiya @Undo
Hiya @J.Musser
@Robusto Is that like cake? then I'm all for it.
More like pie. I don't care for cake.
@Robusto Miracles in the past are as real as miracles in the future
@Robusto pie, cake, that's a loser's game. it's like asking if puppies are cuter than kittens.
19:42
Ahem. Puppies are cuter than kittens.
5
@Robusto I've forgotten as much about the past as I can imagine about the future.
@Undo Animals are not cute.
Hey, so you probably know about Anthem's data warehouse getting hacked. Just so you know, if you emailed anything sensitive to Jeb Bush, he just published it to everyone.
That is all.
@KitZ.Fox Wow, I am glad I did not email him my latest email, lol.
Starred for reference.
@Undo Despite being right (puppies kick kittenses asses), you haven't attained true enlightenment until you realize that the question itself is the opposite of true buddha nature.
(except I've heard that the Buddha kinda preferred puppies. He's cool like that)
I really enjoy starring things these days.
@KitZ.Fox Dammit. That'll teach me. I had an email to him that I thought I'd take a look at one last time but forgot to press send.
@ABeautifulMind I'm annoyed that people can't star their own stuff. If that were possible, you could have starred that, and then I would have starred your starring your own post. I wouldn't have given it a second star, I would have quoted it in my own post, then starred that.
@Mitch It seems you cannot unstar after X minutes.
@ABeautifulMind testing...
Yeah, there's a ten(?) minute grace period
19:51
I don't know X.
@ABeautifulMind What you can do as a total opposite to that is go back through the chat transcript and star things you like that no one else has, but older than say the oldest thing on the star board (holy crap I didn't get that until now). That way you will have starred things, but nobody else will notice. ever.
X = 5?
Can you unstar your 'Anthem' star?
No.
I think X = 5 then.
at most 5. maybe 4? or 3?
That's left as an exercise for the reader.
Or the starrer.

@Mitch rofl
I thought crunk was the dancing. But I was wrong. So embarrassingly wrong.
Dude, is it snowing where you are? It's been snowing so long and so hard here, I have trouble imagining it not snowing anywhere.
It is not snowing where I am, dude. It snowed here last week, but this week it is relatively warm
I talked to my MIL a bit ago and she was saying how cold it has been there, that she had to start wearing a sweater. MILs! amirite?
It is surprisingly not snowing here.
And.
There's this thing.
cool thing
20:17
Uh oh. the thing. I hate that.
This weird kind of burning heat in the sky.
oh that thing. I've heard of it.
Oh good. I was a little worried.
@KitZ.Fox what's that? I looked up this morning, but all I could see was the fog.
Does it... well make the sky sort of .. brighter?
20:18
@KitZ.Fox small, spherical, moving from east to west? puts down notes
Kind of brighter and it puts weird black stains on stuff and makes the sky like this blue color.
Nice. Scientific method.
@KitZ.Fox Ok, I have your answer.
Oooh. I noticed the staining. I thought it was the trees because it is worse near them, like sap.
But don't worry, the blue goes away pretty quickly.
The stains are sticky, you can't get away from them
20:22
What's this burning heat thing? I've only ever experienced that when snow gets in my gloves. at first it is obviously cold, but then the burning starts.

There once was a tall glass of ice My lips did get stuck to it twice The glass was to blame It spoke out my name It said kissing it would feel nice

puppies are cuter than kittens
nope
your opinion is wrong. you have the wrong opinion. only one opinion is right and it is not yours, it is mine.
That's your opinion.
My opinion is stronger because it contains more characters.
21:01
damn it!
Kittens are number one in cuteness. Puppies are number two in cuteness.
My opinion is now stronger than yours!
getting popcorn ready
Go on...
lol
@MattE.Эллен Kittens are not as smart as puppies, therefore puppies are more cute.. wait
xD
grabs popcorn
I still have 2 more characters than you! (excluding . wait) I am rightest!

I'm trying to make a game robot, that will search for the best move possible. At each step there's 4 possible moves, I can assign a score after each move and tell which move earns the best score, but it can go deeper, and making 4 children moves for those 4 moves. Now how can I decide what will be the best next move if I have a tree like this:
             [5,  2,  1,  1]
             /    |   |     \
   [6,3,1,1][8,4,1,1][3,1,1,1][3,1,1,1]
@MattE.Эллен wait is part of the reasoning xD

where the best next move at depth 1 is the first (5), but if we go at depth 2, we find the best score for the scond move (8)
@J.Musser your delaying tactics have no effect on me!
@crl the only way I can see is an exhaustive search
@crl follow the game tree. depth first or breadth first or 'best' first. also alpha beta pruning, or branch and bound. wiki them all. er..jinx on what Matt said.
@crl you should stick to the kittens/puppies debate. It will in the end be more fulfilling.
crl

trying to learn for Alpha–beta pruning, doesn't care of about pets :p
start first with minmax game tree. alpha beta pruning is a strategy for that.
@crl *for
@MattE.Эллен lol
21:18
oh I read that as 'doesn't take care of pets'.
which would be, if not equivalent semantically, of the same outcome

Isn't this a good grid at 2048? why do I lose with such a good grid
I guess it's not a good grid then, it's probably better to center the max value than to get it stuck in a corner
